Just saw & Juliet on Broadway, which features a mashup of all of these artists and the songs that he helped put together. I would say that he's more of a sound maker, someone with a profound sensitivity to catches and hooks that grab your ear even before you know what the lyrics are (I think Katy Perry mentioned he started out just humming gibberish but that was sort of the template off of which he worked). How often are the lyrics misheard, after all? The foot in the door musically is the sound, and he seems to be a sonic siren. There's an art in that, even if it's not the most poetic or avant garde lyrically; the sound is what binds the lyrics and music together, and by extension, the audience.

Dude is obviously talented, especially for melodies. But strange enough, his songs rarely play as evergreens on a radio where we ofteh hear all those past hits from Tina Turner to many other. I think because his method is formulaic, very pleasing on first listening but often forgotten after awhile. You obviously cannot compose evergreens all the time, but you can churn out formulaic hits year after year. Either you are artist or formulaic constructor. Max has chosen second path.
@sellammar17 жыл бұрын
I am Dutch and a lot of Brintney Spears as well as Ace of Base and of course Backstreet Boys all their early hits are often played on radio. Also I was working in Singapore last year and I heard every day his music played there. @johnnycaper_5 жыл бұрын
I think the loophole is going back to those days when you just started playing instrument, learned a couple of chords and jammed along or played your favourite songs. I think the key answer is into punk rock - 3 chords and it sounds good. I mean cmon remember those times when you just picked up a guitar and learned to play those 2 chords and had so much fun. That's where it's at lol. Somewhere along the way we lose that feeling because we want to evolve and play more complicated songs. Yeah it's good to learn new stuff, but sometimes we lose the fun aspect of it all. So going back to basics is always a way to remind yourself that it's al about having fun :))

Max Martin is next levels of talented. These artists are totally right when they say he's a genius. There's no other word for Max than that. You are completely right though. His productions are so tight, so rigid and particularly placed, that they do lack soul. The pop industry has massively suffered from that musical ideology and it would be nice to go back to the days of more percussive / acoustic sounding instrumentation rather than the tight synths and swell drops that are so prevelant in Martins mixes. It's a shame that someone as talented and focused as Martin (who was in a rockband as well!) didn't push a bit more for that kind of sound.
