Really did enjoy the video, Sonny. Thanks again for posting. I live out here in Oregon. Lots of hills along the coastal roadways. To get home, I have to climb a rather steep logging road and I’m not sure the bike is going to be able to make it. Haven’t had a chance to put it to the test yet. I’m wondering if it will help to configure the PAS to 1 to 9 for better hill climbing. My instincts tell me that this will only help I on the straight and level, that it won’t add “extra torque“ for climbing. We shall see. I love how you have outfitted your Polana!
@Onyasix3 жыл бұрын
Yes, for a steep hill, you will likely be in your highest PAS setting to supply full current to the motor. For hilly terrain the hub motor design is limited in that it is direct drive with only a single gear. That is why the mid-drive motor is a better design for the hills. The mid-drive motor can take the advantage of the bikes mechanical gears and you can drop it in low gears to let the motor's rpms speed on up. Not only does the mid-drive motor take advantage of the bike's multiple gears, the higher rpm helps to keep the motor from over heating which is a problem for the hub-drive motor under prolong loading.
@Trillville433 жыл бұрын
No having multiple pas levels just makes the power curve more steep before you get to the top end. It's literally a personal preference that does nothing extra.

Hey Sonny, great vids. Have you heard of anyone modifying this version to carry a passenger? I’m looking at this and the Radrunner (as that has passenger addition). Thanks!
@Onyasix2 жыл бұрын
No, I don't recall seeing one modified to carry a passenger. But, I see no reason that it could not be done safely. Both the M4 & M6 are advertised to carry a 360 load (this includes the rider). The rear rack on these e-bikes is very sturdy and I could see a padded seat being made to fit the rack. With that and a set of foot stirrups it would be setup for that additional passenger. Two large adults may be pushing the weight limit of the bike, but as long as that weight stays around 320 lbs or less, you would probably be okay.

@@Onyasix Thanks Sonny. We are both pretty light, so it might work for the occasional ride. Now its between the M3 or M4 for me.. M3 seems very similar to M4 but a few hundred cheaper (feel free to throw out any insight on the M3). Really well done videos, they're great insight.

@@NinjaTurtleNumber5 ~ I ordered my M4 back in June of 2021. At that time it was selling for $1349. The M6 was not out than so I didn't have that decision to make. I've notice that presently the M4 is selling for $1299. That's a hell of a deal. By far the cheapest that I've seen for a full suspension, 20" folding e-bike. The only comparison that I have between the M4 and the M6 is what I've seen on KZbin and the advertised specs. Based on that the only major differences is the motor (re-gen and higher torque) and a higher quality front suspension fork, everything else seems to be the same. If you have the extra $300 and want the couple of extras then go for the M6. If you are looking for a really great deal and money is an issue then go for the M4. Just realize, that even though the M6 is a good deal, it is still close to 20% higher in price than the M4. All I can say is that I'm pleased with my M4 and do not regret purchasing it.

like what you did, very nice setup. thinking about getting the M4 for myself, now i know i'll have to save up for all the great accessories you've shown, Question, how happy are you with the M4's rear suspension w/o the suntour seat post? did it really make a difference in comfort after you installed the seat post?... it isn't overkill? thanks
@Onyasix2 жыл бұрын
The M4's rear suspension has a low limited of range which is okay for most road conditions. It is also somewhat stiff with a quick rebound. I prefer a softer ride, so for me the addition suspension is not overkill. I prefer the linkage driven suspension seatpost design over the telescope suspension seatpost. I've used both and the linkage driven design give a much smoother and fueled ride. My first/other e-bike is a Lectric XP with no frame suspension. Using the same seatpost on both e-bikes, I find the Polarna to have a much smoother ride which is to be expected. It is hard to compare the 2 e-bikes (apples to oranges) since the Polarna has a full suspension system (front and rear).

@Onyasix2 жыл бұрын
Connecting the voltage gauge is pretty straight forward. It has 2 connection wires, a positive and a negative. The connection to the e-bikes system can be anywhere between the battery and the controller. The two power leads from the battery to the controller are red (positive) and black (negative). If you don't have any auxiliary battery (as I do), the easiest place to splice into the power wires would be behind the battery connection plug panel off the leads going to the controller. The connection can be similar to the way that I connected my auxiliary battery. See go to 17:00 in my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJnXi2BqjbiVasU . The voltage gauge will NOT require heavy gauge wires since there is very little current passing thru the wires to the voltage gauge. Since I have an auxiliary battery, I spliced into the auxiliary battery wiring harness between the on/off switch and the auxiliary battery harness lead to the controller/power leads.

do you happen to know what awg wire they use for the charging port? im looking for fast charger that will work for this bike
@Onyasix3 жыл бұрын
No, but most chargers for 48 volt e-bikes are rated at 2.0 amps and a fast charger may be up to 5 amps. Remember that the fast chargers will effect the longevity of the battery. A 2.0 amp charger will take approx. 5 hours to fully charge a fully depleted 10Ah battery. Therefore, a 5.0 amp charger would take approx. 2 hours to fully charge the same battery. Personally, I would not recommend a charger higher than 3.0 amp to maintain the expected life of the battery. Even at 5 amp a 18 awg wire would carry the load. I would likely use a 16 awg wire for an extra margin of safety. 🤔

I have my S8 Galaxy that works just fine after AT&T upgraded me to a S10. So the SIM is not active in the S8 and I'd like to use it for the GPS and possibly the cadence sensor.

I'm writing this as I watch. How does it compare to the lectric
@Onyasix3 жыл бұрын
The Polarna is a step up from the Lectric. With the hydraulic brakes, full suspension (front & rear), up graded shifter and derailleur, solid spoke wheels, higher capacity battery (14Ah), and fully programable controller with color display. The Lectric is a good bang for the buck, but the Polarna is a step above with a good bang for the buck. The ride and comfort of the Polarna is better than the Lectric as it should be sense it is a more expensive e-bike.

why do I need to upgrade the freewheel past 20mph
@Onyasix3 жыл бұрын
Most riders with a 11-tooth cog high gear will spin out around 20 mph. At 20 mph with a 14-tooth cog high gear, your cadence is 85 rpm, and at 24.3 mph your cadence is at 100 rpm (which is higher than most riders can pedal). At 20 mph with an 11-tooth cog high gear, your cadence is 65 rpm, and at 30.9 mph your cadence is 100 rpm. With the 11-tooth cog at 28 mph, your cadence is 91 rpm.

Why not just change the screen on the Lectric?
@Onyasix3 жыл бұрын
The Lectric is a good E-bike for the price range of around $1000. The Polarna is a step above, comparable to the Yamee Fat Bear 750S ( $1799) and the Engwe Engine Pro 750W (1649.99). Two months ago, I paid $1349 for my Polarna which was a steal. It is now selling for $1499. As pointed out in the video, the Polarna's controller is very programmable, far beyond the Lectric XP, it's not just a better looking screen. 750 watt motor, full suspension, fully hydraulic brake system, 14Ah battery, 8 speed gearing, solid aluminum wheels, upgraded derailleur and other upgraded components made the Polarna a much better buy for the $350 extra than a Lectric XP V2.0. You would have to ride the 2 bikes side by side to notice the difference in the riding experience. The position of the rider and the crank assembly are 2" lower than the Lectric which makes the Polarna handle better. The solid aluminum wheels (no spokes) are straight and true, where as my Lectric I could never get the hop out of the rear wheel. I love my Lectric XP and the 4500 miles of fun that I have gotten out of it, but I do not regret the change over to the Polarna. One of the major plus factors of the Lectric over the Polarna is that the seller is an America company and you get better customer service from Lectric. But, I figured that to be the case before I purchased the Polarna . . . with open eyes.

How's reliability on the bike? Any mechanical problems?
@Onyasix3 жыл бұрын
I now have over 1,300 miles on the Polarna and have not had any serious problems or issues. Out of the box, I did experience a knocking sound from the freewheel. I replaced the stock 13-28t freewheel with an 11-32t freewheel and the knocking sound was no more. I was going to replace the freewheel anyway so this was not an issue for me. The controller had a couple of hiccups the first few rides, but I did a factory reset and have had no more issues with the controller. There is a potentially serious issue with the fenders on the M4. On the rear fender, the front angle bracket may/will break. This can cause the fender to bind the rear wheel and I've heard of several M4 owners crashed because of this. I have replaced the angle bracket with a stronger one to prevent this happening with me. I had an Lectric XP (my first e-bike) prior to the Polarna. The Polarna is a step above the XP. I paid $350 more for the Polarna then the XP and it was worth the extra cash.
