Hey! I just repaired a polavision of my own. When you push the tape in, it pushes down on the lever towards the back. This releases the pin that pushes into the bulb-side of the cartridge, into a hole between the spools. When that pin is able to slide into the cartridge, it engages some reed switches that makes the whole thing turn on. The pin is sping-loaded and slides through a plastic hole. In mine, the grease had become very tacky and wasn't sliding like it should have. I removed it, used some rubbing alcohol to get the old gunk off, and put a little bit of grease and worked it around. Now it slides freely and everything powers on when you push the tape down. If you're looking at it from the back, it's the left-side cover, on the very top of the unit.

We had one of these as a kid. The films were self developing. Ours shredded one of the cogs inside it. Quality was pretty poor but probably good for the time.
