though not in the specs, we can deduce that both those scopes have a small 1000 point buffer DSO-153 with its 5M sample rate uses the entire buffer on that 200µs wide screen...then a lag as buffer refreshes for next screen DSO-152 with its 2.5M sample rate gets 2 screens out of that buffer...no lag between screen 1 and 2 ... then buffer has to refresh I think that's what's going on... hope all is well out your way, Ian ... we're getting heat wave up here...rare for us, so I'm soaking it all in:)

Just bought the 153 over the 152 for exactly the same reason. Some scopes in this similar price range can also save the wave form and you can also scroll through several frames. Did you notice how slow the refresh rate is on the 153? 152 updates the screen many times faster. Easily seen on the longer timescales. I wrote an email about this to FNIRSI support but didn't get any reasonable explanation. Might be the CPU hitting it's limits with the 5Ms/s or something.

If you figure a head gasket leak, is it possible coolant in the cylinder is causing your misfire on start up? Pressure test the cooling system and perform a compression test to confirm your suspicions. Head gasket issue would likely result in coolant loss, either through over pressurization or burnt within the cylinders. 🍀

I believe the CVT models have a dedicated external oil cooler. Check for debris/core damage restricting air flow. Also check for kinked or collapsed/pinched CVT oil lines. Such a condition could result in excessive heat transfer to the evaporator (if equipped) and radiator assemblies. Also confirm CVT oil quantity. Assuming you have already checked the basics of cooling system…quantity, quality, pressure, no air locks and circulation. In addition to electric fan operation. 🍀🍻

@TheGibby334010 күн бұрын
It’s really all about the index point on the trace (#1 cylinder @ TDC on compression stroke for example) relative to identifiable index point of the cam(s) rotation. Loss of cam to crank “Synchronization” (timing chain/belt skip or stretch for example) can result in difficult to diagnose performance issues. Signal amplitude (Y axis) and separation in time (degrees) on X axis are critical factors that are compared to known good waveforms to discern normal from out of tolerance. Thx for watching 🍻

If the shipping wouldn't be prohibitive, I've got a Robin-Aire vacuum pump that you could have and plumb it in outside of the Yellow Jacket case. The sucker weighs 60 or 70 pounds, even though it's called portable. It's a commercial unit that was my Dad's and was passed down to me when he died. By the time you paid for shipping, you could have gone to Harbor freight and gotten their vacuum pump and replaced the one in the Yellow Jacket (Possibly). If you paid $50 for the Yellow Jacket, you didn't get stiffed. There is more than that in just the plumbing and gauges. I was looking at one a few months ago that was going for over $600 and it was used. hopefully you can find a source for a new piston, rod, and cylinder. That should be the least expensive route (my guess $30-$60). The motor should last for decades if not used too heavily.
@TheGibby334018 күн бұрын
Thank you very kindly for the offer. And suggestion. The whole story is …I paid $200 for it, but it came with a good quality manifold gauge set that I didn’t need, sold the gauge set for $150. So $50 net…I am in the process of attempting to source the Teflon cup seal. The “piston” is simply threaded to the rod and traps the seal. We’ll see. Thx for watching 🍻

@@TheGibby3340 I was imagining the setup mounted to a modified welding cart. It was pretty awesome in my head. The Robin-Aire pump was built in the 1970s, when they built things to last. It's just sitting in a large plastic bin in front of my gaarage, taking up space that I could use for something else. I just never got into A/C work. I understand the concepts and could do it, if i absolutely had to. And I think about getting into it every now and then. I just have too many things already on my plate that I never planned on. I "Accidentally" got into a lawn equipment repair business, and it takes most of my time. I used to do it occasionally to help a neighbor and keep up my own stuff. That "Word-of-Mouth" non-solicited advertising has almost overwhelmed me at times. But it's fun, mostly. Especially since I'm not even a mechanic. Thank you for your videos. If I was checking the health of a duty cycle controlled pump and went directly to pump itself with the amp clamp, I should be able to see the segments, correct? Also if the tank and pump were out of the vehicle and I supplied the pump power directly I should be able to see the segments and judge the health of the pump, again correct?
@TheGibby334019 күн бұрын
Which year and model are you referring to? Depends on how “modern” the subject vehicle is… It’s my understanding that modern duty cycle controlled fuel pumps are usually brushless. So they’re are no segments because they’re are no brushes. The coils are static (stator) and the field is electronically switched (rotated). The rotor that drives the pump may have permanent magnets inlaid. No physical contact is made, supposedly improving reliability and durability. The electronics tend to be the weak link in the system. You maybe still able to monitor current to each leg of the motor, if the control is remote from the pump and an interface harness permits clamp on probe access. Again I believe they are usually 3 phases. Essentially making the system a DC to AC hybrid of sorts. Does that answer your question? I have a couple of videos on the channel regarding brushless DC motor control. They might clarify system architecture for you. Be aware simpler PWM control systems do exist. @@TheGibby3340 thank you for your reply, a calibration seemed to have cleared it up so hopefully this solution, like your videos, may be of help to someone else. However, as others have noted elsewhere the unit gives an error when reading voltages below 1v. eg. I measure a 12v battery which measures 12.7v when the units are 1v or higher, but under 1v the voltage shows less than 12v (9v, 6v etc) in the numerical data at the top. Another You Tuber made a video about this but I’m not sure if I can post links. My personal opinion regarding this is that the unit only calculates the data from what is displayed on screen and if the measurements are beyond the limits of the screen the data becomes incorrect.
