How to grow dry beans and extend their harvest. I have planted Old Homestead Pole Beans in my protected garden beds in my organic home vegetable garden. I made sure to harvest them often using the beans both as green beans, new shelled beans and dried beans.

Beautiful video! Beans are one of my favorite crops. I grew around 60 varieties this year, and next year there'll be even more after I put some new trellises up. I pick them green as string beans and stuff a department in my freezer (and eat them). Then I let the beans mature, but pick part of them when they're still soft and not dry yet. I freeze those too, and I can make an impromptu bean dish without having to soak them or cook them for more than 15 minutes. The rest I let dry for dry storage. They're such a wonderful vegetable! My favorite herb to complement them is savory.

Nice video! We tend to grow climbing beans along our fence and plant 2 or 3 vertical rows to maximize yields for the space used. Also a heads up for you basil that appears to have gotten hit by the frost. We tend to pick some of the surplus and make basil pesto and freeze it in ice cube trays for winter use.

What a poignant little piece. I actually lost my whole harvest of dragon tongue beans to mold! I have a lot of favas about half of which I replanted in the fall. I hope you have some garden abundance to hold you over until the spring
