Snap. Missed this one. Another one of Pop's cabinet art. The artwork that surrounds the monitor; stuff like that is unmistakably his. Atari seemed to love his race cars so check out the game TX-1 and Super Sprint for more of his racing related stuff. The logo screen on Super Sprint was also his (the one that captures a few cars racing in mid-wreck and you can see tires and junk shooting into the air). Freaking bad-ass if I do say so.

I think the coolest thing about this vid was pointing out the cigarette burns, that hit me in the gut bro. It's like I could instantly smell and hear all the places I played that game in back in the 80s. Pizza Hut, 7-11, the roller rink, shoot even at fricken KOA Campgrounds. Ain't it weird that something like cigarette burns on an arcade cabinet can take me back to the 80s. Love your channel man.

Yeah man I know exactly what you mean, there was an old Clint Black song that said "ain't it funny how a melody, can bring back a memory?" Little things can make you feel like you're traveling back in time, I've heard too that smell is like that, I've experienced it a little bit, sometimes you'll smell something and you'll travel through time in your mind like that, or like you said sometimes you'll remember a smell. Thanks for watching SpicyMeatball!

Great to see this cabinet in good working condition. Thanks. If ONLY I could afford a real arcade cabinet. LOL

I bought a bare pole position cabinet. It had a pole position marque that was mostly missing due to the lamp, and the pole position 2 glass. I turned it into a multicade.

It's pretty impressive what our consoles do today, considering what it takes to keep this arcade game going.

Thats one clean machine! Looks way better than mine :) There's also a PP2 CPO sticker that goes over the gauges.

+Argonaut Arcade Yes, I think a lot of operators didn't do the full kits... I don't know if they came with the full sideart stickers too or not with the kit, I know the dedicated II cabinet had different sideart....

My desk (that I am siiting on right now) is made of a side panel of a Pole Position upright... (don't ask, times were very dark). I also have a (working!) cockpit, which will not share the same fate... What a great game.
@LyonsArcade4 жыл бұрын
Lascheque don't feel bad, I have parted very few games over the years, out of thousands I've had... but I have parted a couple pole positions. Unfortunately the boards were very hard to keep running, and they made tons of the things so for awhile there it was very common for people to part them out. Sucks but what can you do, even I parted a couple.

I had a gentleman fix it on www.KLOV.com years ago but unfortunately it's my understanding he's since passed away. If you sign up on that website for their forums, all of the world's repairmen are signed up there, get in touch with a guy named "gamefixer" and he can get you going again.

I just started working on my Pole Position 2 cabinet, so far ive pulled the battery, wired 5v test points together, rebuilt the Power brick and 1 of the AR2's and put in an unhacked harness too. I just spent a few hours tonight pulling all the socketed chips and cleaning the legs from row 6-9 on the CPU, just have rows 12, 3 and 4 left. Then im onto the Video board. lol, right now it doesnt boot, its a garbled screen like one of the initial boot junk screens but it stays there. The CPU test points are getting 4.91v so the board is solid for power at least. Once i done cleaning chips i may have to get a logic probe like you have and learn how to use it. Im thinking i need to learn where the boot circuit is on the board, is it the watchdog circuit that initiats boot do you think? I ask because you seemed to start there when Asteroids doesnt boot when repairing. Thanks, -Mitch

Sure man, you just start at the beginning of the schematics and the first thing it will show is the clock signal... so you check for that, and it will have a bunch of sync signals like 4h 8h 16h 32h etc. (or whatever it is on this game)... check to see if you have all those there. Then you move onto the first cpu, and see if it has activity on the data lines and address lines. I think there are 3 CPU's on this game so it's pretty complicated! So you have to get the first one up and running, then it turns on the second, etc. Just start at the beginning of the schematics and check to see how far is working....

Do have a mother board for Pole position 1
@ThunderFist19782 жыл бұрын
Pole Position II is harder, depending on the track. Suzuka probably has the most turns of any track, so it’s certainly the most difficult, but the test track is the easiest of all. It has the fewest turns of any Pole Position track, Fuji included.

As great as Atari’s cabinet looks, I can’t help wondering what a Midway Pole Position cabinet would have looked like. Midway came out with some of the most creative cabinets back then, and they were given the choice between Pole Position or Mappy, while the other would go to Atari, and Midway chose Mappy.

Hey there, can you tell me if you all have done any work on a PP unit with the new boards they have for them? Just trying to get as much info as I can before I commit to finding/purchasing one. Evidently, the retro fitted boards are supposed to resolve a lot of the issue that PP is known for having. Hope someone sees this would really appreciate some feedback.

My pole positions side art is blue. Does that mean it's a conversion or something? Edit: I am a noob when it comes to arcades. I managed to find a broken Pole position for 50 bucks the other day and thought it'd make a nice project.
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
It depends on what cabinet it's in... if the cabinet has this same profile, no yours is a dedicated, the only game that ever looked like this was Pole Position. I don't believe there were any Pole Position 1's that were released as a kit, although an operator may have transported the stuff into a different cabinet. Yours may be a Namco version which was the version not made for the USA.
@thecynicalsprite18475 жыл бұрын
Ok. Just asking cause I was looking for replacement side art but all of it was red. Mine is blue (as I said) and is lacking the Atari logo. The cab looks the same as yours otherwise.
