Club directory is great! A national meet directory might be nearly impossible as things change so fast and there's so many, but... attempts are appreciated! I know in the Northeast we have 4 big meets (Flying Circus, Apex, Vertical Adventures, Rochester Rockback (oh... all clubs, if you go to the club website you find those) and a few series that I know of Patriot, Max Velocity, Germantown Academy, hmm... almost all clubs again. And then of course there's the USATF Championships for every association.

back in the 90s someone came up the idea of "drop plant" and some better vaulters made it look as though it was correct. But it was disaster, and it disappeared in a few years. A good athlete will make a bad coach look like he knows what he is talking about, but they really don't work well with young kids. Remember, college coaches don't know everything, lots of them have good athletes who were taught well in high school. If your vaulters are having a particular problem, look for it on a video, ignore the BS, or find a coach who has vaulters doing well and asked them what they are doing to eliminate the issue you are having. One of the best bits of advice I got was to not fear the no height day. Start you jumper close to their best and challenge them to not need a couple of slop jump to get in rhythm. They will only no height a couple of times before they get serious about. Irv said he started his vaulters at 6-12 inches below his kids best vaults. Easy clearances promote sloppy vaulting.

I just got cleared by my surgeon yesterday after being out because of an acl reconstruction and I am super excited to get back. I am a senior in high school, I tied the record the meet before tearing my acl, is there any advise you can give me for starting/easing my way back into it? I have been conditioning and doing as much as I can the whole time of recovery. If you have any advise it would be much appreciated, thank you!!

Good question! I can relate since i had shoulder surgery the year after I had a massive Pr and took 5th at nationals. The best advice i have is to go slow and realize everything is going to feel slow, awkward and off. You're going to want to chase feeling like you did before your surgery but instead realize you're a whole new awesome version of yourself. So focus on creating the new you vs chasing the old you.

When im running with the pole, should i put the pole in the box so the bottom of the pole is align with my shoulder or should i plant the bottom so its in line between my 2 feet so in the middle?
@ShawnFrancis193 жыл бұрын
I personally try to plant the pole in the right corner of the box. There's no right or wrong way. Do what works best for you!

Another great production!! I do have a quick question Shawn.... (which I was debating with my brother this evening).... what height would you expect from a half decent pole vaulter using a 13", 14" and 15" pole?
@TeamHootPoleVault7 жыл бұрын
Tough question since this sport has too many variables and it depends on what Half decent means to you. You have to take into account the athletes ability, the flex number/athletes body weight ratio, and if the can jump over their hand hold or not. There isn't a formula for this situation unfortunately...
@jamesrobinsonPV7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shawn...you would make a good politician :) I see what you are saying though, far too many variables! I'll just tell my bro that I was right and he was wrong. I wonder if there are records out there for heights on certain lengths of poles?

So if my plant is late, I should just lower my pole at take off and that should fix the lateness?
@TeamHootPoleVault6 жыл бұрын
There are a few ways to help with a late plant and lowering the tip sooner can help with your perception as too when!

@TeamHootPoleVault3 жыл бұрын
Planting early = pole runs. Reaching is all about thinking about skipping or jumping at take-off.
