I strongly considered getting a Polestar 2 to replace my Model 3 performance, but disliked the packaging compromises given by a shared architecture with the XC40 recharge (tight back seat, high center tunnel being chief among them). Nonetheless a very impressive product for one picking up on an architecture shared with ICE platform. I am holding off on Polestar until I can get a product from them on a dedicated EV platform. Not long now...

I got to test drive a Polestar 2, and I really liked it over my Model 3 in terms of ride comfort, quiet, interior design, exterior design, infotainment UI. The only downside was the low seating position for me (I’m rather short in stature) and have gotten used to the higher seating position of the 3 and the great forward visibility. The polestar 2 definitely had a more sports car, low slung, cockpit feel to it, which I actually do appreciate, but maybe not as a daily driver. It’s been really tempting to switch, but kind of waiting for the next generation of EVs, before committing. So many new ones coming out in the next couple years.

I might just reserve one shortly after it's reveal. Does a Polestar 3 have bi-directional charging? This will be a huge plus (over my model 3) since power outage is happening more and more often due to climate change....

@@cypvh74 Remember that Polestar 2 is on Volvo's CMA platform which is made for both ICE and EV cars. Their future models will be on a dedicated EV platform which should mean better packaging, performance and weight!

TBF the CEO literally addresses this concern in the video: "Our products address the FASTEST GROWING and HIGHEST MARGIN vehicle segments across the globe". As much as I love wagons, their sales are not growing, and since they cost a bit less than SUVs, margins are lower too. Financially probably too risky for a "startup" like Polestar. In the US market, for instance, only Subaru and Volvo can even get away with selling wagons at any significant rate, because the dwindling number of wagon buyers will only gravitate toward the two remaining brands that still has "wagon cachet". But thankfully that also means EV wagons will eventually come, badged as Volvos, and likely also able to take advantage of the same platforms and technologies that underpin these Polestars.

You’re right, but it seems like they could be more successful in Europe if they sold a wagon. They’re still pretty popular there, I went a couple months back and there were certainly SUVs but the car of choice for a hauler still appears to be a wagon.

Got confused over the interior design of the P2 when I tried it out IRL though; the portrait iPad pro placement makes it impossible for a tall guy like me to fit in the car. First time ever experience in 24+ years of driving different cars. Space between stearing wheel and “ipad” is needed if you’re 2m tall.

I'm happy to see Polestar reveal much of the cars. This is way better than sister company Volvo who aren't showing us anything so far. I hope Polestar truly worked at noise reduction in the 3 and ride comfort. The area Porsche excels in is ride comfort not being a compromise with very sharp handling. At least try to match the ride comfort. The current ride comfort of Volvos lag behind the best German car and that's an area where Volvo/Polestar really need to burn the midnight oil to match the German and other competition. Seat comfort, style, body structure, all of that is excellent in the Swedish-designed cars. However, road and wind noise plus ride comfort need improvement and I truly hope that shows in the Polestar 3 and future Polestars. The 2 is OK but still a bit noisy and ride is good but could be better.

Please don't forget the software experience. Standardizing the software interface across the fleet, supporting over-the-air updates, and continuous improvement is crucial with the fast moving markets and allows the life of the car to be extended, which supports your mission for carbon neutrality, if cars can drive a few extra years on the same hardware, but with new software. Often software is what drives people to upgrade, more so than the car itself.

The rapid growth equals big problems - ac brackets problems, software problems, range much much lower than advertised, poor quality finishes inside fully loaded models. My Polestar 2 has now been in the shop 4 times. It doesn’t even have 2500 miles on it. So buyer beware. They are moving too fast and not working through the many issues with the new tech.

Hopefully the Polestar 1 can become a full bev instead of the phev that it currently is. Are there plans for that? Obviously there should be, or unless it'll get dropped completely since you're going ev only. Ok....it's coming to the end of its run later this year. The last edition with the gold color looks super hot!! I hope, though, the future holds for the nameplate to continue with a new progresion of design and full ev platform. Maybe shorten the Precept concept to be a variant with a 2 door coupe to be a new Polestar 1.

Well the Polestar 1 was always going to be a low volume halo car on a modified Volvo PHEV platform, so as pretty as it is there won't be any more of them. Although if Polestar makes it big, maybe they'll build a version of that spectacular O2 EV roadster!

I actually really like the look of polestars but when when it simply comes to "apart from looks what do i get over a tesla" it kind of comes up dry which is a real shame. If you made like the audi a1 of electric cars (a small NICE car) i think you could hit a good niche but at the moment your just copying all the others of going "electric saloon into bigger cars!". A 250 mile range small electric nice car would be useful and full a niche in the market

According to the many online reviews of the P2 and Model 3, it seems the consensus is that the Polestar has better styling, build quality, materials, and handling over the Model 3, while the Model 3 has better acceleration, efficiency/range (although Polestar put out recent OTA update which actually improved the range a bit), and supercharger network. They both have pretty good software, and it is questionable whether you prefer Tesla's minimalist everything on one single screen walled garden software, or Polestars's google driven Android Automotive software which will also soon offer Apple Carplay support. They are both good EV sports sedans, and if you are in the US, they are essentially the only sedans you can get right now (although the Polestar is actually more useful than a sedan since it is a hatchback). You want smaller electric cars or electric cars with better value, you'd have to go to Europe or China to find them. Some of the new cars being released by Chinese automakers are pretty compelling, including smaller vehicles like ORA Cat and BYD Dolphin, as well as sedans that undercut the Model 3 in price like Xpeng P5 and BYD Seal.

Those who go off to reach for the stars often stumble over a small stone. As driver of a Polestar 2 I'm in love with the design and agility of the car. But I don't understand how you can rely on a partner for software (Google Android Automotive) that doesn't continuously work on improving the systems. Every software update brings new bugs. Moreover, there is still a lot to be done in terms of quality (just think of the eternal squeaking). I really like the Polestar brand and the car itself. But as of now, my next choice would no longer be a Polestar. Unfortunately.

Back a couple years ago Polestar's marketing plan was you couldn't buy their cars, you could only rent them and you were obliged to get your insurance from them. That is such an aggressive form of customer domination that I wrote them off. But I believe they have reformed and we are now allowed to buy and own their vehicles. But I would still stay away from Polestar for political instead of technical reasons. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has shown how unstable that region can be. If China decides to do a similar thing to Taiwan then there will be a breakdown in relations and we won't be able to get repair parts to get our Chinese Polestars fixed. They will get bricked by war and politics. While foreign conflict makes us pay higher gas prices, at least we still get to our destination.

I was days from taking delivery of a PS2, but the Polestar Space I was dealing with under-valued my trade-in by $11,000 relative to the KBB value... So, now I am not driving a Polestar. With the vehicle market the way it is, that's just greedy to go so low. They knew that they could sell what ought to have been my car if I didn't take it, so selling it to me was not a priority. It will be a very long time before I seriously consider the brand again, as I would never deal with that location after such treatment.
