I’ve done a bit of winching and what we’ve done before with that size of load is thread the winch line through a tire or two so if the line does break the tire will grab the wire rope and stop the recoil. Maybe some said it earlier in these comments.
@carpetsomething
@carpetsomething 3 жыл бұрын
If its a really long line, Ive tied a couple of towels to it as well so if it whips out of the tyre the towel slows it down massively cos retarding force as a result of air resistance increases with velocity and a towel creates a lot of air resistance

Add some outriggers to the boom for heavy lifting, from boom to the ground with a heavy chain across the bottom between the ground pads on the bottom of the outriggers poles. You can have the poles be adjustable for height and just pin to the boom at top.

Enjoy the vids. Recovery went pretty smooth. You guys might want to address the end of the winch cable though, sooner or later it'll cause a problem, needs a thimble and preferably a splice, but definitely, a thimble and three wire rope clamps. I've rigged a lot of stuff over the years, and cable ends are usually what lets go. IMHO.

There’s rust on the hood, on the front bumper steel where it’s been hit, and paint knocked off.Corrosion in some undercarriage. Been there long enough for that to happen. This is high country, semi arid a lot of the year, it’s been snowed on all winter, snow naturally cleans a vehicle pretty well. No fresh tracks, so they’ve been washed away. Besides, why would he say it’s been there at least 6 months or longer if it hasn’t? Doesn’t make the video any more interesting if it’s been wrecked 1 year or 1 day.

When you have seen a cable break, you will not be anywhere in the radius that it could take when it gets loose. The one that I saw was just like this except the front wheels of the wrecker were in the air when the cable broke. The cable was like a whip being cracked and it came up over a hill, flew over the truck and took out some utility lines across the street in front of the wrecker. I was standing off to one side looking at it from about 75 feet away. It was like it happened in slow motion, a loud snap, the truck crashing down and the wiplash of the cable as it flew by knocking the phone lines down across the street.

@@FastLaneLyfe Maybe it was stolen, maybe the owner was doing something stupid and it ended up rolling down that steep hill with no one in it. The owner had a nice radio in it, so he went down took the radio, locked the doors and took the keys. Then reported it stolen. Maybe something similar, or I'm completely wrong.

House trailer toter tractor mirror bar: roof mount and extends/contracts as needed. You van rework one so it is air driven in and out. Design the mirrors to fold flat against the side of the truck like the new Ford One ton trucks have. They fold inwad when the key is turned off to prevent vandals.
