Cooling Towers - In 1965 several cooling towers collapased at Ferrybridge power station due to high winds. During the cooling tower construction at Eggborough six towers were either complete or were still under construction, it was decided to reinforce these with "Gunite" coating. This light wieght spray concrete finish was added to strength and reduce tower shell deflection in high winds. Two of the towers which had yet to be started were built two inches thicker and didn't require the Gunite coating. In more recent times following year tower inspections it was noted that the Gunite coating was delaminating - Rain water was collecting in between and some sections fell off. The square stainless steel plates where fitted to retain the Gunite coating. Other tower modifictions included a warm water curtain to prevent tower icing in winter and the replacement of Asbestos Packing with high effiency plastic "waffle" packing The road at the side of the cooling towers was also fitted with under road electric heating to prevent ice forming in winter, although I never believed it was used

You were walking on a public road filming. There is no expectation of Privacy in a Public place. I'm with you guys, if the Security Guard comes up and just asks the question it could have been over in minutes. One Security Guard with over inflated self importance. You should have given them an IKS Card. There are idiots out there. I'm glad you carried on filming and I'm glad this is the UK where the Police are a lot more reasonable. Like you said, give them your details as you have nothing to hide. It's those that wind the Police up and cause trouble that get the hassle. Great little video guys, thanks for sharing.

13:06 the cop didn’t ask details, because he was satisfied no crime had occurred, or was about to occur. The station is not active and the first man was talking reasonably and thus the Constable did not feel the need to press on any other issue. The unlikely auditors get an A for being calm and reasonable and articulated enough to ease the Constables mind. The Constable gets an A also the interaction was brief and the Constable made no attempt of any over reach. He was satisfied the men posed no threat and left them to it.

I would imagine that there is a lot of very valuable scrap in that place - wiring, heavy copper buzz bars etc. And a of idiots do not realise that the power station is still tied into the national electricity grid. So those pylons will likely be carrying very high voltages - 270.000 volts, or 400.000 volts.

It's certainly true that the power is still on! And the chimney stack is lit at night (required by law) for aircraft navigation purposes. So anyone cutting cables needs to ask themselves a question "Do I feel lucky?" - or do I feel the power!

Excellent channel guys, I love history especially military and you also satisfy the nosey parker in me. This site needs preservation as those cooling towers are magnificent. It’s like a modern day Stonehenge. We also need to preserve some of the military sites you have visited, they are our heritage after all. You are genuinely doing our nation a great service by recording our history that if we are not careful will be lost forever. Have you ever thought of doing this on an official basis perhaps with the National Trust or English Heritage? Or trying for a lottery grant to do this full time? This would probably unlock a few doors to sites to get better access. All the best Tony.

17:03 what’s interesting with the second officer, is that the interaction was brief. The police must feel great relief when they people details. Taking the possibility of escalating a situation right down. These explorers are a good example of what happens when you do cooperate with police. The encounter was short, and the officer did not double down on the men. Thanks guys for proving to auditors of U.K. not all contact ends up negative.

It's strange how things change as cooling towers were considered a massive eyesore in the 60's and 70's. Now they're seen as iconic, I think they are. When they took down the cooling towers at the side of Tinsley viaduct in Sheffield, some people got upset. As an electrical engineer, I realise there purpose but I'm not sure if we should miss them or welcome them being demolished. Great video lads.

Great content guys shame about the police coming up pity the security didn't just check things over. The video footage from the water coolers was brilliant didn't realise until you said you can see the stitching repairs on the coolers you don't realise how big these coolers are until your up close and how all that weight can stand on that footing . Footage like this is really good for future generations to look at as these land marks are going fast. Thanks for sharing and stay safe guys.

I’m aware this is a non functioning power station but security for power stations are immense to the point the have their own armed police based at our nuclear power stations as they are targets for terrorists... probably why they don’t want anyone snooping or gaining info on this place incase it can be used against another active power station... and also why drones are frowned upon. The issue wasnt flying the drone as such the wind all of a sudden came strong and took the drone and had to make an emergency landing as you do lol. When we got to where the drone was it had landed at other side of fence. I wasnt leaving thousand pound drone so i give me mate a hand to get over the fence. He got my drone and we rang the security to tell them he was walking back through as it was easier than trying to get back over the fence. I went round to pick him up at the enterance. The police had our mobile number as we rang the security and the police rang us on the way home and they said that it wasnt illegal or anything they just wanted to know what happened and wanted our names thats all.

I can't say I blame the police for being curious. Three guys in camo running around and old power plant.... It is probably justified that they want to know what is up.
