Police blocks meeting of Iteso community in Tororo

Police in Tororo has blocked a meeting organized by the Iteso community, saying it was illegal. The locals and their leaders had
convened the meeting at Mukuju sub county headquarters to discuss the forthcoming by-election for the vacant district LC Five seat, but were surrounded by police who halted the proceedings. The seat fell vacant following the death of the chairperson Apollo Jaramogi. The locals accused the police of taking sides. They want Tororo to be granted a district status to separate from the Jopadhola tribe who they say, marginalize the Iteso.
