use of body cameras while on duty helps: 1. both public and police to get in touch with the real incident 2. helps the court to judge fairly. 3. helps police officers to act lawfully 4. if both police officers and the public know that they are being viewed then it helps to prevent the worst conditions 5. it helps to set certain boundaries to the public and the police officers.

If you read the reports as to why their versions differed, they stated they were 'tired' & were wanting to go home after working nights. This kid could've had a pretty serious criminal charge, preventing him from crossing the border, certain types of employment for the rest of his life etc., but to these guys, this kid's future was almost jeopardized because he dared to stick a finger in the air & they were too tired & wanting to go home to give the report the attention it deserved. The people who should be the most angry, are the officers who do the right thing, are able to not let a 17 yr old kid get the best of them, simply because he 'gave him the finger'. That's what instigated this whole thing, a kid gave an adult the finger & because that adult had enormous power, he almost changed that kid's future. The city of Chatham may have to pay out $100 000+ because of a officer's pride & tiredness. Kind of sad,
@acunamatata55747 жыл бұрын
cause their tired... that's why they pumbled him and lied about it. Look tons of great people have criminal records and tons of rotten evil people don't. Martin luther king, joan of ark, mandella. A criminal record is reflective of the many things and not just the individual.
@dwayners137 жыл бұрын
One of the rationales given as to why their reports differ from the video & didn't include pulling out a gun at the earlier incident was (as I understood it) that they were 'tired'. I think you can probably deduce why they may have given a different account (aka misremembered a different set of events) than what appeared on video. And while I completely agree that a criminal record is not indicative of a persons character, as the are a lot good people who have criminal records & vice versa, unfortunately a criminal record, especially assault against a L.E.O will prevent people from being able to pursue certain careers due to many professions requiring criminal background checks & from being able to travel outside Canada. That was my point. (I apologize if I didn't convey it clearly.)

Body Cameras only protect the public when there are strict policies in place that officers have to have them on during the entire interaction and do not have the ability to tamper with them. To often Video's are deleted or officers claim they did not turn the camera's on. Then when the public, lawyers attempt to obtain the footage through FOIR it is lost, heavily redacted or withheld for reasons such as officer safety which is completely ridiculous. Make leaving them on mandatory, make tampering with them illegal and an automatic admission of guilt, like if a person does not provide a breath sample or blood test upon request. Abuse of power, Deprivation of civic rights, Illegal arrest, All these officers need to be held accountable. your next interaction with police, just turn on your camera and point it at them, it's amazing how they then de-escalate and become respectful and courteous.
