When I think about it, that might be the appeal of Socialism. Feudal systems were generally quite stable and lasted a long time. Everything from the adult jokes to Funky Town playing as they entered Far Far Away, Puss in Boots' debut, and of course the Fairy Godmother singing Holding Out for a Hero all coming together is what makes Shrek 2 a masterpiece that belongs in the Louvre. Not to mention Simon Cowell shows up in the bonus scene on DVD. Puss in Boots was originally gonna be an English character (although the tale is originally Italian), but they thought it would be too similar to Farquaad. So after casting Banderas and watching Banderas's performance in The Mask of Zorro, they made the character Spanish.

I just love how Puss in Boots fought the literal embodiment of death in The Last Wish...while at the same time losing to average guards in Shrek 2.
