For all of those people who wonder why the police have things like this, I have a simple answer. It is much cheaper for police to just use ex-military vehicles than to buy extremely expensive custom-made armored vehicles

Fair enough, but I thought that police were supposed to be public servants that engaged in public activities and tried to hold the trust of the public. If I seen a fucking MRAP rolling down my street, I no longer consider that person engaging in normal policing activity. He no longer looks like a public servant, and is no longer approachable like one.

@@jnjackson87jj it's a SWAT vehicle, not a patrol car. SWAT doesn't do community policing, they do high risk warrants, barricaded suspects, hostage situations, and active shooters. Officer safety is more important than you being offended by a big scawy twuck

J T you seem to miss the point of your own statement. Your choice to get your pride hurt for a minute vs. terrorist executing their plans. This is the exact equipment they need for this type of situation...regardless if it’s a false alarm or not. In these situations the cops have more to worry about than a melting snowflake.

Wonder why FHP has an MRAP? Their top speed is 65mph, and HP is mostly chases and whatnot. Guess it would make a killer roadblock (quite literally if they used it on a speeding car instead of a much slower semi truck or box van) vehicle since they weigh up to 18 tons.

MRAPs were designed as a "quick fix" for the IED problem. They never were intended to replace hummves. MRAPs had poor mobility compared to NON up armored humvees. The Oshkosh L-ATV better known as the JLTV is going to be the replacement for the NON up armored humvees. sorry if I sound like a know it all .

FYI, that's NOT a run flat system, that is part of the CTIS central tire inflation system, the computer in your center console, just below ur parking brake knob, you select the terrain and the tires will deflate to that setting.

There is no reason for a civilian police agency to have a MRAP(S). I can see them having Bearcats, but not one of these. This is the militarization of the law enforcement. Period.

An armored vehicle with 0 offensive capabilities. one is just a bit larger than the other. And i still dont get why you guys keep saying there is no reason for an armored vehicle being used for police work. Its perfect for SWAT teams. It can batter down doors or walls while keeping the SWAT team safe. It can be used as a mobile barricade or an mobile bulletproof cover. I dont see it as a problem. Many a police force from my part of the world have dedicated APC's for SWAT or riot control use.

I saw 2 of those in Augusta Michigan, with Detroit, Michigan Metropolitan SWAT markings on it. Made me wonder what dragged them that far away. Augusta is like 2 1/2-3 hours from Detroit and its a tiny little town, not anything serious at all.
