Homeless people camping in derelict boats may seem like a victimless crime, but the Florida Keys are environmentally sensitive and shouldn’t be polluted any more than they already are. The water isn’t very deep for miles and miles so garbage, chemicals and sewage can really pile up. And the cops aren’t just being mean - they are told to get people off of derelict boats.

For those who were wondering: 40 years ago, people lived all over the keys on pontoon "houseboats" until '98 when hurricane George sunk most of them (huge environmental mess). Now they have to be at a marina (2k-4k a mo.) or can be anchored but must be moved every 90 days (meaning operable). Seems like a fair policy to me. 🤷
