As a former director of environmental, health and safety for several businesses in southern California, I can state that this inspector seems very straight-forward and transparent, but it is never a good idea to volunteer any information other than what is specifically being asked, about the DDE HQ itself, because he can dig deeper and/or make a note to call other state agencies to investigate this site. For example, when he asked Dave questions about what DDE does, Dave should have only answered the question in terms of what DDE does at HQ, not their upcoming trip to Vietnam or other planned activities, especially in CA, and You Tube videos

And its not just time, every one of those hurdles require money. Most go, well how much could approval and inspections with new construction cost? Every step is around a 4 digit number. That's minimum. Wanna build on the coast? Good luck. It gets even crazier once the costal comission gets involved. This is a YEAR minimum process. Which you fund. Then it gets crazy. There's a bird species that nests in your zip code, and we believe will approach endangered in the next hundred years. We need to do a long term study to assess this. Your going to pay for this guy doing his doctorate and his interns and students in a masters program he is head of at some local UC campus. For 2 years. No joke this happened to my buddy, that little summer camp cost him 200k. And everyone has stories like this. Not as grandiose always, but just baffling decisions and actions.

Cop asks if he's still needed, and the inspector says, (yeah, I got a ping.) When he says that he got a ping, he's actually talking about how one, or all of you, had a warning flash on the screen while looking up your info in the police database. When he did that, your names came up as either being hostile, or for having some kind of uncooperative dealing's with police, hence the ping. The reason he gave you was definitely not the real reason, if that was the case, everyone would be calling for a police escort because they were scarred of the area, and the police don't do that. You can clearly hear him tell the officer that you pinged while looking you up.

You are 100% within the Light Manufacturing zoning rules. You could fully ramp up to doing complete engine rebuilds and its still within the zoning use. Doing burnouts in the parking lot may be a stretch of what's legally allowed from an air/noise perspective, but meh. Now you may have some minor code violations. At most they will give you a small ticket, however 98% of the time they will say "go get X", "get more fire extinguishers", "you need an exit sign here", "you cannot have this within 5 feet of an exit", "you need a trip cover on this power cord", etc write those on a list and give you X months before they come back. That is just completely normal...very few times do inspectors show up and say nothing should change, but they are there to check boxes on a form, they aren't going to do anything about it.

So a temporary special event permit (TSE) is required for any event (up to 7 days long) having Tents or canopies, larger than 12 feet in length or width on a commercial property, any bleachers, Temporary change in permitted of an unenclosed ground level outdoor space, open air alcohol use, food/beverage sales, and temporary noise limit changes. I agree, The inspector was trying get Dave to incriminate himself with those types of questions. Made the situation even worse because the inspector spoke English poorly. I would have requested to have a representative/lawyer present. Dave didn't have the best vocabulary when answering him. noun: manufacturing the making of articles on a large scale using machinery; industrial production. Dave tried to talk to the owner of the business but the owner refused to talk to him to try to resolve the issue which is odd. It was one occasion not multiple inconveniences. DDE seems to try to be professional with what they do. In the video the guys mentioned that there are often trucks that block the DDE business entry and exit points and can’t exit their property. Without knowing more, it is possible that the trucks belong to the complaining business.That event took place at night not during normal business hours. No one mentioned what kind of business the complaining owner has. Difficult to say without knowing more if the business was significantly impacted or not. DDE hired 16 security guards to try to control things but it appears the event got much bigger than expected. DDE should have gotten a permit for the event. I’m sure they learned a lot from that experience.

What if Hoonigan didn't have that inspected and reevaluated for tax purposes? I'm sure taxes are already ridiculous. It might double the taxes. I have no idea. But you're right. He said way too much. I would have remained silent. And only answered when asked a specific question. The inspector was laughing and asking questions about cars, which he has zero clue about qnything with cars. They are not there to be your friend. I hope after all is said and done they can stay there. And I hope the taxes aren't exponentially raised. I thought they would have known better than to talk that much. I sure their attorneys had a good talk with them. Hopefully they did if they are good attorneys and don't just see dollar signs.

If this guy comes back or some other city official/inspector, with Sheriff support....have them park within the gates of the property. That way his vehicle is safe from being tampered with & more importantly, the Sheriff can now go respond to calls where his help is actually needed.

Never answer the door when city officials show up. You aren't required to help them. Make them get an appointment and have a lawyer present during any further visits. Government officials are not your friend and they will find any way to extract money from you. this was a fishing expedition to find a reason to make your life difficult, fine you, or even shut you down for some trivial reason. I would bet that this is not over and you will end up spending considerable money to "comply" with their extensive and intrusive codes and requirements.

Damon and Dave keep stress low, I deal with multiple State Officials across the US for residential and commercial permits. Don't let them see you sweat. Remember as tenants you can also reach out to your local officials; building, electric, fire, construction, director or the mayor to get ahead of the issue before anyone in the local office makes an official decision. The local official still needs to make an unbiased decision to satisfy both parties. In the event that the ruling is not in DDEs then an appeal process could be taken with a city board. P.S. I doubt the city would want any public press with the scaling and size of DDE members.
