Surrey & Sussex police RPU - Roads Policing Unit can be seen here escorting the second of three abnormal load convoys to Woking Community Hospital for a new development of a MRI department, in this video you can see four of the buildings for this development as they make their final part of a 320 mile journey from Northumberland (the last of the three convoys to come from the North), this video shows them travelling through both Guildford & Woking after the Roads Policing Unit had collected the loads at Fleet Services. You can see throughout the video different sections of the journey through Surrey, as they travel along the A3 between 9:30AM and 10:00AM making their way along the A3 through Guildford before coming off at Ripley and travelling back to Guildford to come off of the slip road at the Stoke Junction, before proceeding along the A320 connecting the two towns of Guildford and Woking between 10:30AM and 12:00PM. This load caused multiple areas of traffic disruption throughout the day and was granted a police escort to assist with its journey through Surrey due to their extended widths.
As with last time, due to the widths of the pods, multiple signs had to be removed from the ground and islands to assist the convoy to proceed down the final road close to the Hospital.
The Roads Policing Unit (RPU) used a collection of different vehicles to carry out this escort, including a Volvo XC90 leading the convoy, two rear cars consisting of the 1/1 Mercedes E350e & a BMW 530d helping to hold back traffic, joining them was also three BMW police bikes which were used to go ahead of the main convoy to shut roads and clear traffic allowing for a swift move between the two towns.
