@@jackiemcdonell1737it’s multifaceted but I think it’s the fact that as women (collectively) we are expected to carry more of a load. Work full time, raise kids and all the while support systems have diminished significantly. The internet has also created a false sense of reality where as moms we often feel like we aren’t doing enough or what we’re doing isn’t meaningful. It’s so easy to compare to someone online but we only see the positive, note worthy, curated stuff. Also for many women they wind up being single parents which is a whole stressor itself. Economic concerns compile and stress becomes unmanageable for many women.

I stood upriver and the speed of the water was incredible and I tell people who haven't been there and they don't seem to understand it. Like people the power and speed is unlike anything I've seen and they just say "oh I know" and I'm like "NO. . .YOU DO NOT KNOW obviously cause you wouldn't say it like that." One question I have is how has whatever feeds the falls...how has it not ran out of water? The falls runs ALL DAY everyday, all year and whatever feeds it never runs out. How? 60 years ago, when i was a kid, children would end up in a children's home if their parents were divorcing. There were 3 sisters who were in that situation, and the father came to take them out for the day. He took them to the notorious cliffs called The Gap in Sydney, New South Wales. When school resumed, we'd learned that the father pushed his eldest (my friend) over the edge, grabbed the two youngest, and jumped. It was the first time I'd experienced such senseless loss. Becoming a nurse, then a first responder, left me with no surprises, sadly.

so sorry to hear that happened to those children. It's affected you all these years. At age 11 we were driving to church one Sunday morning. Along the country road of corn fields I saw one of my buddies from church standing on a small hill by the road. My parents didn't see him and drove by. At church his parents said he was missing for 2 days. I told them I saw him coming to church that morning but my parents didn't stop for him. his parents followed us back home and I saw him again but no one else did. We stopped and I ran up to my friend, he didn't speak to me. In the weeds before where I saw him my father found his body and his motorcycle he had just purchased against his parents wishes. I saw his soul standing over his body. That has stayed with me all these years. No one could see his body from the road due to the weeds, but his spirit was standing over where he died.

I was saying in another comment that parents have to know that they can drop off kids at police and fire stations, hospitals, churches, etc. We need to encourage this TO SAVE KIDS. There should also be a provision for the parent to possibly get the children back if they solve the mental, physical and financial problems that took them to that choice of dropping off their kids. We need a community to help people parent in this unforgiving world.

Her wording was correct. Somehow she got over the gate with the two kids. The baby would have been no problem but the 9 yr old would certainly have fought her if it wasn’t drugged. We just celebrated my nephew’s daughter’s 9th birthday and she would have fought like a demon to not be drug across the fence. She would have known her mom was doing something wrong and would have run away from her. So tragic.

I work here as a tour guide and the first this I’ll tell all of you is it’s very easy to go over ANY railing at the Niagara Falls State Park where the 3 waterfalls are. They went to the USA side (borders Canada) on Luna Island with access to the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls - this entire place is not kid-proofed on purpose- it’s like an unspoken agreement when you enter the park: “we’ll put up railings to prevents falls or accidents but we expect you to watch your kids and not intentionally, easily climb over these 3’, 4’ rails.” We want everyone to see unobstructed views- evens the little ones- so railings are everywhere- but to people-proof the area, it would obscure the view and shorter people would need assistance. Being a natural wonder, it should be accessible to all - but enter at your own risk. It’s perfectly safe and has been for decades - but if someone has the mind to climb over something, that’s when the trouble happens. We can’t prevent that.

A kid couldn’t fall in unless his parents really let them climb rails or completely ignore them- they are there at their own risk. Accidents are rare. We expect visitors to follow the rules and not do stupid things, it’s a State Park. The glass, It’d be cool in concept but we’ve spent so much already making what we have better, it’d be just unpractical. This is a natural wonder of the world- it can’t be kid-proofed.

One has to wonder if this was the result of postpartum depression (PPD). Less time needs to be spent on abortion issues and more time needs to be spent on women’s health issues (including birth control and mental health issues).

OR, like Susan Smith, didn't want her kids anymore because of a boyfriend she may have had, saying he didn't want to be involved with her as long as she had kids. NOTHING shocks me anymore. She drowned her two boys while they were still in the back seat, still in their car seats.

I met a few single parents recently, 2 woman and a man. They were suffering with bills, no food enough for all of them, working and trying to keep their homes. We have to reverse the tax cuts and support those who actually need help. We are So very wealthy. No parent should have to be desperate to feed their children so someone can own multiple houses, multiple custom cars, multiple yachts. It’s easy to say seek out help, but is there really a county that will do anything but take away the children and possibly put the parent in jail. When people can earn fair wages and/or get enough assistance to get off their feet, 90% of them will heal, get steady, and move on. So horrible. Please support children and their parents when they are in need.

I was thinking it might have been severe postpartum. If she was suffering from a serious case postpartum she shouldn't have been around her children. I just saw a case similar and the mother called for help because she was having thoughts of hurting her children. They ended up releasing her from the hospital the same day and a couple days later she unalived her 4 week old baby.
