Top notch video, refresher for those of us that have been biking for decades and all that we do instinctively that younger, less experienced riders might not know. Having been a Chief Instructor for Canada Safety Councils motorcycle courses, lane positioning, always having an "exit strategy" and defensive riding can never be over streesed. Thanks for the excellent job

Sorry.. totally disagree.. Bad example for a training video .. what training video would show someone overtaking vehicles on an a 'A' road in excess of 70 mph on several occasions and exceeding other speed limits throughout the video. ... a traing course would tell you to be observant at all times and if you observed his speedo at all, you would realise that's it's certainly not suitable as a training video

This has been a great series Bruce one of the best examples of advanced riding especially the commentary. I am a member of the IAM, ride a blood bike and so do lots of miles in all weather and must redo training and a test not always IAM but with a recognised organisation every three years. What always surprises me with some bikers is that “if I’m able to ride really fast I’m a good rider” been there myself in my younger days but 40+ years of biking on see it differently now.
@teapotone2 жыл бұрын
Thanks bud, glad you’ve enjoyed them. Yes absolutely, I totally agree. It used to be all about speed for me, and the faster I went and faster I cornered, the better rider I felt I was. Now I see some riders on the road and cringe as I know they’re surviving mostly by luck, and eventually that’ll run out. Don’t get me wrong, there are some incredibly talented riders out there who are comfortable at way higher speeds for situations than I am, but I’m definitely much more reserved in my usage of speed than I used to be, and I’d like to think my vision ahead and risk assessments are higher than average now. Accidents still happen though and you can never think you know it all. I’ve recently done a day with ‘Rapid Training’ and I learned loads regarding my vision, positioning, and more. Every day is a school day 👍😉

Personal choice, I don’t want to personally
@teapotone2 жыл бұрын
Nope, never been an issue for me personally. My headlights and road positioning are a much larger factor in being noticed by other road users. Personally I only notice high-viz clothing after I’ve already spotted a bike due to their lights. I tend not to sit with traffic on the nationals and would rather get passed and away from potential hazards. But it’s a personal thing, I do t think anyone should be forced to wear anything in particular on a bike - helmet is a bare minimum and that’s fine by me.

Well done Bruce. You showed that the system of motorcycle control, is very much still within you and used in your riding to the effect it does give to riding. From your own history and training and old profession of; Police rider/driver, it is still serving you in your riding in your "profession" as a motorcycle vlogger, of which I think is at a high standard and sets example to others to follow, that if they were to also commit to some good training, with a professional rider trainer, they to could change their own ride so much for the better and safer. Watching you here shows, that it isn't boring, "old pipe and slippers brigade riding" as was so often thought in the past, but that it is the way to take one's own riding. You have just shown that and expressed it so well to your "subscribers", which I am one, it is so worth it to do these training/assessment opportunities. Well done mate and I hope many more see it and take it up themselves, leaving their egos at home. You've reached a lot of people who watch and listen to your advice on your channel, about bikes and riding and the fun to be had, but safely, as much as we did if not more! on the old Essex Police BikeSafe and currently on the Essex FireBike Better Biking course. Bless ya matey, enjoy once again well done on a great video Bruce.

Bike Safe's nowt. It's just one day. Best to see it as a taster of what observed rides would be like as an associate (/pupil) with either IAM or ROSPA, and do an advanced course to test standard. You can't absorb much roadcraft or get your head around IPSGA in a day. Best you can say for Bike Safe is it's better than nowt - but only just.
@teapotone2 жыл бұрын
@unfunny - Not at all. Some people don’t want to do IAM/RoSPA, I wouldn’t personally as it’s just not my style of riding. I don’t want so many restrictions and would rather just ride my own ride whilst utilising roadcraft as I see fit. Bikesafe gives people a wee taster of the main points, and that alone will go along way to making peoples ride safer for sure. But if IAM/RoSPA is your thing, then go for it 👍

cool video. you mentioned about filtering in the first half of video while you were following. about 5 or 10 years ago i read the law part in MCN one day and it was a filtering question. the lawyer responded saying there was a case which is commonly used when matters go to court and it set a speed of 20mph or less as a reasonable speed to filter at. i wish i could remember the case name but since i read that i have adjusted how i filter through traffic. the highway code and i think rules of the road about filtering state a slow speed, but knowing a case is out there with a speed limit on it then to me, its risk vs reward to filter faster than 20mph as if an accident occurred, its most probably what will be used to settle the claim and accident of who at fault.

Sadly in 2021 I had a semi-serious accident were a woman pulled out of a junction not looking where she was going almost wrote me off then and there if it wasn't for my leathers and helmet, what's even worse my bike was stolen a day after the accident I was devastated. Thanks Bruce - a great video and a useful reminder. Bikesafe is a great course and from my experience the guys who run them are universally excellent - worth refreshing once in a while.

Tremendous video. Great commentary. You have a nice voice and easy manner for these safety videos. I did a Bikesafe last week with Derbyshire police. Really worthwhile and I fully recommend . On left hand bends (when visibility is good) they use the extreme positioning of 6 ie far right on the other side of the road. Anybody out there, ROSPA or IAM?? Ride safe, thank you TPO

Great video, very educational. And cool to see that this video confirms already al lot I'm practicing in daily traffic. And Like you, I'm also constantly thinking about all those options and road positions. Expect danger and unexpected situations everywhere and that nobody sees you, always create the most possible space around you. And everybody can accelerate, but how well are they at braking and dodging danger?
