That is why the American civil liberties Union want to come in and stop it because that will infrenge on our rights to listen to what's going on in our neighborhoods. And on top of that they want to make sure that the information is not transmitted so that we can't find out what's going on! That's why I say that the American civil liberties Union needs to step in and say no to these scanner encryptions now. Because what that will do is create harm to the public.

Let them talk on their phones or meet up somewhere, but keep it off the air. A detective once told me that they don’t say anything over the radio that they care whether the public hears or not. So then, the encryption craze is less about “officer safety” and more about operating in secret.

"Scanners" is not how cops communicate. They communicate with two way radios. Scanners are for listening.

But they want to take away that right for all of us to listen to the scanner, and to me it is sending the wrong message! This is why the ACLU is going to come in and challenge the scanner encryptions because that will not solve anything at all.

I drive a cab/drive for Uber, and I use a scanner to make sure I stay away from neighborhoods with active crime. This has probably saved me multiple times since before I had the scanner, I was a victim of an attempted robbery TWICE in a 30-day span! It would be nice to have a technology to not give potentially damning info on up to the second police whereabouts but to at least show where a crime is taking place in real time

I would consult an attorney on having an " assumed liability " form drawn up. Since encryption of the publicly funded system is denied to you, they are placing you in potential harm. Where otherwise you would have had the real time warning to avoid a dangerous situation.

The only encryption should be stuff like SWAT, drug task force, vice….things like that. But to wholesale encrypt the entire system shows the extreme antitrust our servant government has towards we the people who paid for the damn thing in the first place. Dispatch groups should always be clear, let there be encrypted channels for very short duration sensitive traffic. An encrypted channel should never be a chit chat channel for trash talking (yes, I have actually heard that!!!) about the people they serve.

Only encrypt tactical channels only encrypt swatch channels don’t give our Social Security numbers that’s stupid over the main channels you don’t even do that over the telephone. What kind of stupid thing is that Social Security information on the vital statistical information FYI you have technical channels, a swatch channel that can be encrypted, not regular channels for dispatching cat stuck up a tree or car accident at the nearest street corner. This is so stupid.

Okay first of all scanners are receivers not transmitters. Police don't use scanners to communicate. They use two-way radios. And I've never heard the term "Scanner Hawks". Do some research.
