Yes they are and sadly way underpaid for that job. I lived in Philly for years and that is the toughest place I’ve ever been. Just the people and the cops and everyone’s just got a chip on their shoulder. Just a tough city. But the cops are great and very friendly and helpful. I remember when I first moved there and I was looking for Tony Lucs and I asked a cop that was walking in the area and he said I’ll tell you if you get me a sandwich 😂(he was kidding) but I got him one anyway lol.

well said. All put their life on the line to help and save others. There will always be bad apples, does not make the whole Tree bad. In Europe there is often very little respect for first responders. Like to react late to move aside, so an Ambulance can drive through, to disrespect, intimidate, provoke Police or any that Protect and Serve. And the ones that disrespect are the ones that cry like a little puppy, when Their house is on Fire, or a Police officer drops you off at the Emergency Entrance with 3 bullits in you Torso, and the Surgeons save Your Life! Maybe it is because the true meaning of Respect has been lost. For Respect has nothing to do with fear nor greed. Respect is a reflection of Intellect, Knowledge and Wisdom.

Cops aren’t in the top 20 of most dangerous jobs in America. Power linemen, roofers, garbage truck workers and groundskeepers are much more likely to suffer fatal incidents on the job than cops. While in my state, police killing people are the second highest cause of murder, just behind spouse murder. Gang violence, robberies etc are less likely than being shot by the cops. But yeah, there are some good cops out there, but they are all tricked into this narrative that they are at risk all the time. That they are being hunted nonstop. That does not produce good police, that trains trigger happy gunslingers, that take the Punisher as their symbol. Firemen on the other hand, are just there to help. Never met a bad fireman. They are true heroes.

I grew up outside of Philly. My grandmother lived in Manayunk and remember going in the early '60's to visit. Every day, people would be out front sweeping the sidewalks, picking up trash, washing windows or tending to window flower boxes. Fast forward to the early '70's. I didn't recognize the area. Trash every where, garbage everywhere, abandoned cars, my grandmothers house TRASHED as were MOST OF THE NEIGHBORS. I got threatened by some local thugs so I left. In the 1980's yuppies started moving in to downtown, buying up some of the (formerly) beautiful town homes. They fixed and painted and cleaned even installed cobblestone on the streets and refurbished the old light posts. And ALL I HEARD was "Whitey bees forcings us outs of our neighborhood cause we can't affords to live there no mores." CONVENIENTLY FORGETTING that in the 1950's and 1960's THEY moved in and started destroying the area. I could recount numerous other horror stories, but I already know I am being called racist. The kids sell drugs all day, but gold chains and name brand sneakers and won't help their mothers with food money or help with rent. I left in 1990 and only went back for 2 funerals and it had gone so far down hill I felt physically ill.

Until you hear a politician talk about banning handguns they arent serious about gun control because pistols are used in over 80%of gun crimes. I have been pulled over plenty. Never has a cop shot or tazed me. They apologize for DUI checkpoints or whatever. The funniest time was coming home after a no name storm that blew in from the Gulf. I sure didn't expect a well know big city cop to pull me over for speeding in my ancient 5th wheel truck. I drove it into the hospital because it needed tires. It was a very fortunate thing I did. The cop writes me up and takes off into the upcoming curve. There was a huge oak down on the road. I , said. Sir. I have the chains with me. This road carried a lot of traffic between,8 and 9,am. If you can hook it up. I'll pull it backwards into the ditch. We cleared the road and he walked back and dropped the chains back in the bed. Then he jumped up and reached across me and took the ticket back! I was truly surprised. Being nice and being helpful gets you far more than pi ssing and moaning.

I remember a city when pride filled each of the neighborhoods in Philly. There was opportunity and good jobs for poor kids like me. Now, after years of neglect and hopelessness, the worst of human nature comes to the surface. It's not only a Philly problem, it's a human one. Sadly, our men and women in blue have to deal with this on a daily basis which adversely affects their mental and physical health. I know. I am the son of a Philly cop. Thank God for them. They are often that thin blue line between life and death for each and every one of us.
