Very nice high quality video ! Very festive feeling, I wanna make these . We are Polish and Italian mostly and always had quite a spread during the holidays ! Your cooking reminds me of my Polish grandma very special person who escaped the Russian invasion in the early 1900s and came here to the U.S. when she was only 16. I miss her greatly.

I make these every year from my aunt's recipe - always a favorite. In addition to using poppy filling for some, I make a pasty stew of chopped dried fruits - mixed raisins, dates, apricots, prunes, cherries - whatever you have on hand, but try to put in a few chopped dates. They add a nice sweet flavor. Place the diced fruit in a small saucepan with a little water and cook on low until thickened and let it cool. You can add chopped walnuts or almonds if you like. Sometimes I add a few drops of kirsch or rum.

Grew up eating these - so delicious! My Baba used to make them with apricot, poppy seed, and the walnut filling she used in her nut rolls.

Hi Ania! My husband’s great grandmother made these cookies, and the recipe never got passed down (though the Pierogi recipe did). So recently, we used your recipe for the dough, and filled them with prunes, because that’s what she used. My husband’s mother and aunt were taken back 30 years, since great grandma last made them! We want to thank you so much for what you do! It is an awesome gift that you have to be able to share these recipes and help us keep them going. We have been following your channel for years at this point and just had to tell you how grateful we are for you! Thank you so much!!! 💗😎

This video pooped into my queue. Yay!! My fraternal grandmother (100% Hungarian) and my mother (100% Polish) used to make these cookies but they used Lekvar (which was a prune butter filling that they would buy in a huge 1 gallon can in Hamtramck, MI near Detroit) Hamtramck used to be 90% Polish people back in the early 1900’s - 1970’s but over the years it has changed. We used to call them “babies in a blanket” when we were kids. Thanks for the video.

I would have posted them...but I need to work on my technique. lol I used plum, apricot and poppyseed butters from Giant. This has now become a new family tradition making kiflis during Christmas time.🎄🎄🎄

I miss these, in Texas! When I was a kid in Chicago, these were a tradition every Christmas. We aren't even Polish... but it wasn't Christmas without Kolaczki! In Texas, we have something different called "Kolache". They're the Czech style, much closer to a "Danish", and often filled with meat and cheese, as well as various fruit preserves. The ones we have here are actually not strictly the kind you find in the "Old Country", but a variation created by Czech immigrants using what was available in Texas. Texas actually has the largest population of Czech people outside of the "Old Country". The Czech immigrants brought these treats with them, and they became very popular here. There is a well-known spot on I-35, not far from Waco, that is famous for its Kolache, and many donut shops in Texas carry these little guys. The meat ones are more like Klobasnik (sp.?), but in Texas, they're still called 'Kolache' (ko-LAH-chee). But as tasty as the Tex-Czech Kolache is, it's just not the same as the lovely Polish Kolaczki.

I made these last year for the first time. I will be trying again this year. One problem I had is that where they were pinched together some came apart. I think I may have used too much filling so will try a little less. I am wondering however, we make lots of different cookies we give out to friends/family, can these be frozen? We start around now and make until close to Christmas, then plate for everyone. Would love to know if anyone has frozen them and if they were as good when thawed.

Camijo Gault-Keller you're rolling it in confectioners/powdered sugar aka icing sugar, instead of flour when you roll them out to be cut and you also sprinkle more powdered sugar on them when they're fully baked so you really don't need to add sugar.

Didn't count but from one part of the dough I got around 20 and I had 4 parts so I guess I got around 80 cookies! It will depend on how thin you are rolling the dough out and how big you are going to cut the cookies. I hope that helps!
