My travels in Europe took me to a town in Poland called Bielsko-Biała. In this video I go to the main square in purpose to discover the local shops and restaurants, such as winery shop and a beer brewery, but most of them was on sunny Saturday at 11:30 CLOSED! Luckily for me one of the handful restaurant open was a Hungarian Budafest restaurant in street nearby the square. That place stood out to me, because I been to Hungary, had their Lángos and I wandered: ''Why they have Hungarian restaurant in Poland?'' (You will find an answer on the end of this video). Lángos which is a national Hungarian street food is a deep fried flatbread typically served with garlic, sour cream and cheese and in some other European countries it can be served differently, with mayonnaise or ketchup or without the toppings just garlic with oil on the top. This Hungarian restaurant serves traditional Hungarian food, alcohol and sell Hungarian groceries. At the first moment as I was passing the restaurant I had already made up my mind that I would be trying their Lángos and the tap beer - Pilsner from Poznan region of Poland and some traditional Hungarian Pálinka. And the service of this lovely lady? Watch the video and see it for yourself...
Any recommendations for restaurants or traditional food just leave a comment!

I'm not sure, but if your friend is from the Czech Republic - I feel that the lady from Langosz may make a few misunderstandings. Poles and Hungarians were most of our time neighbors as Czechs. We had same king. They have helped us many times in war time and never betreyed. Now we cherish this tradition and teach our children that Hungarians are our best friends. And finally - we also like Czechs, but just historically - we were not as close.

What people don´t realize is that this saying originally related to inhabitants of what is now (Eastern) Slovakia (and not ethnic Hungarians), where the local dialect is even closer to Polish than standard Slovak. At that time, Slovaks were politically Hungarians too and that´s also why there are places like Węgierska Górka near today´s Slovak border. Anyway, you guys keep repeating that saying ad nausem and we Slovaks will keeping giggling. 😉

@jansoltes971
@jansoltes971 Жыл бұрын
@@realyouppie Dear friend, get a life. I am not challenging the common history of Poles and Hungarians - I was just commenting on this particular saying and you jump into conclusions and spit 19th-century comments. How did it even cross your mind? It´s an innocent anecdotical story on my side - nothing more and nothing less. Did I say that it was only Slovaks who fought wars alongside Poles - and not Hungarians? No, I didn´t. Did I deny that Hungarian and Polish royal courts were intermingled? No, I didn´t. The mere fact, that you reacted this way, only shows how much grudge you bear. If it´s for the Hungarian-speaking territories we got - fair enough. But it wasn´t me who decided so and, trust me, I´d rather see them under the Hungarian flag, if I had the power - just for the local Hungarian people to be happy. That´s for first. For second, the Hungarian history is equally Slovak history. My nation helped to build the common country equally as yours did. From peasants and craftsmen to nobility and scholars. If you don´t know that, then you have some serious gaps in your knowledge. But that probably explains why I read, some years ago, about young Hungarian historians who learned Slovak with the sole purpose of studying history from another point of view than from the official Hungarian one. That speaks volumes, doesn´t it? And, for a start, doesn´t Hungarian language have a vast number of borrowings from Slavic languages - the main semantic fields being agriculture, household, administrative, religion? Who did you get it from? Trolls living in earth holes? If you might think so, then miraculously those trolls had keys, windows, tables with tablecloths and meals served on them (e.g. with cabbage and sausages or a bunch of fruits), while naming the days of the week and celebrating Christmas. The trolls also knew how to make steel and their blacksmiths were making scythes, horseshoes and cauldrons. All words you took from our language when you immigrated here and we accepted you in our homes and taught you how to be settled Europeans - kulcs, ablak, abrosz, asztal, ebéd, vacsora, káposzta, kolbász, szilva, cseresnye, mák, lekvár, ecet, málna, uborka, szerda, csütörtök, péntek, karácsony, katlan, kasza, acél, patkó, kovács (and no, I am not offending the nomadic culture - but it would not and did not survive here). And that´s just a tiny example. But maybe you come up with another theory - like Felvidék was devoid of any Slavic population upon your arrival and Slovaks only emerged when immigrating Czechs, Poles and Ukrainians mixed together in the middle ages. This is actually what can be read on the Hungarian internet. Wow! I love my life too much to write why those claims are an utter non-sense and belong to the realm of phantasy - and why no one else than Hungarians actually knows they even exist (the other thing, however, is Erdély/Transylvania where the theory of immigrating Romanians is very likely correct as there are serious historic clues to support it). Lastly, writing all that, I am an ethnic Slovak who learned basic Hungarian by myself, used to listen to Hungarian music (e.g. Bagossy Brothers, but I rarely listen to any music now at all) and who admires Hungarian culture as such. I wish you a happy life, my friend!

The first music which was on when you entered to the restaurant was a Hungarian-csángó folk song from Moldva region which is now part of Romania. It's title is "Indulj el egy úton" = "You go on one road". It is about the forbidden love of a couple who must hide their love so they go on separate roads to their meeting place and they act like strangers when others can see them. This song was also a theme-song of a Hungarian traveler-touring TV show called "One and a half million steps in Hungary" where they introduced the Hungarian countryside, folklore and natural attractions.

Again a lovely video from you. I have been in Warsaw, the old town of it was beautifull, and the locals said Krakow is much better. Once I want to go back! And yes, the friendship between Hungary amd Poland is strong, we have to keep it strong for the future as well! Greetings Mr. Advanturer, Polish friends!

Piękny rynek w tym Bielsku, świetna knajpka, piękna pogoda, to nie mogło się nie podobać. A tej pani powinny władze miasta dać medal za promocję :)

In Bielsko you totally should go for a drink to Frank's Galeria na Wzgórzu. And probably look at some folk dolls at Bul-Art to see regional Polish clothing and embroidery.

Hello! Actually the announcement near the church was about a funeral of ashes of babies which were miscarriaged. In Poland there is a tradition of hanging something called klepsyrda (hourglass - obituary notice) by a family when a person dies so that other people know about the funeral. This notice had a similar look to it. It didnt say anything about abortion (not even sure if remains after abortions are burried). For me it is quite natural that loving parents want to burry a lost children which they were waiting for and I believe this is not only a polish thing so for sure I wouldn't use a word issue after seeing a notice like this. Anyway, another great video! We've accidentally noticed that restaurant one day after we went back from Hungary and are planning to visit it when next in Bielsko. All the best!

Just to be precise, it was the Warsaw Pact troops that attacked Czechoslovakia in 1968. The Warsaw Pact troops included soldiers from East Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary, Soviet Union and Poland. By the way, Czechoslovakia attacked Poland in 1919 taking some part of southern Poland but nobody in Poland remembers about it and cares.

At the start the lady behind bar said that the beer isn't local. Beer was from Poznan (wielkopolska). Andre you got that wrong 🤣. However I did enjoy to watch the episode as Bielsko - Biala is near my town (Zywiec). Currently in London (last 20 years).

Andre - being Polish myself, I love these vids you've made. Regarding Jesus on the cross, it is the basis for what we believe and something we want to 'normalize' in the sense that, it isn't something to hide except for special occasions. Something we should never lose sight of... keep the vids coming! Dzienki!
