Dude I appreciate this so much, I'm just getting into doing chainsaws and I have been just gluing my own fine grit sandpaper together to make my own sanding bits, This blows it out of the water. Thumbs up.

for all that is interested, the butterfly mandrel can be purchased from Goodson Shop Supplies. 3" and 6". Available online. This is a great video, I always had a problem cleaning up the valley areas of the port. This video solved my problem completely. Thank you very much and wetting the paper and holding it away from contact works awesome.

The other comment the guy said about the mandrel? Yes your are 100% right, I have a old old pump, and that part looks like it in the video, but I don't care who made it, or if it's for sale, this guy invented the concept on how to do other works, so he did make it for porting and polishing it, as it was made for a oil pump, u can buy them at any auto parts store for only 9 dollars- ask for a oil pump shaft, and whalla! It's the same, I would also use it to put a clean piece of cloth for hi speed polishing, but yea he invented the concept on this one... Good job again!

Been doing it that way for years...we always just called it the ole flapper. Real leave a really nice finish if you progress through the higher grits of paper. Try some polishing compound with emery cloth but use the back of the paper not the side with the grit.

Nice video. On your 2013 yz 250 power valve build you showed assembly of the slide. On that slide with the notch that faces up, the welded stop broke off mine. How important is this when running the bike? Can I install the slide without it? As soon as I noticed this Inperfection in the part I stopped assembly and now I'm contacting you. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I was unable to post a comment on that particular video. Thank you for all your helpful knowledge!!!!

Finishing I used bit of linen cut off folded and stuck in the split shaft, then give it a spin against a block of green buffing rouge and buff the port, cleaning buff compound out of port with bathroom spray cleaner and a rinse of water, looks like chrome port. But to be honest it made no diff to power, but to customers a mirror finish port = great job done so it kept them happy. For my own stroker race engines Id spend the time polishing first 6 inches of headers inside as well as port for gains. You could do more but a 6 inch long shaft with split end gets pretty wild in the die grinder and bends.

I polish the exhaust port to about 400 grit. I realize that it will reduce some carbon build up, but usually the exhaust gasket when it gets squished protrudes into the port on 2-strokes anyhow from what I have seen. However, the real reason I do it is to reduce heat transfer on the already hot exhaust side of the cylinder. Those scratches really add a lot of surface area. If you unfold a pleated air filter it would have a lot of surface area for example, so by polishing imagine that the air filter now no longer has those pleats. This is just my 2 cents and I am just new to porting. Every little bit of cooling on the air cooled engines can help with detonation issues. A lot of little things will add up.

Could I take a doubt ..... have 2 cars with original and similar Km engine, but one of them, when accelerate above the green band and red before he has trouble winning spin and it seems that vibrates the engine and will not ...... while the other accelerates more easily and arrives without vibration until the red band, let ...... ask, it could be air flow difference in head shapes by differences in manufacture .. ? A flow optimization, could become the first freer car, as the second already is ....? or better ...?

I was in karting for 30 years and modified everything from Power Products West bends to Komets. Polished all of my mods. I found what you did was spot on. But, here is a trick you may like. Your mandrel for the sandpaper is just the trick. Once you do the step with the 220 grit. Switch it out, and place a wad of steel-wool in the mandrel and go over your port. This will nearly put a mirror finish on the ports. Then do the mothers. Let me know what you think

To whomst it may concern, I respectfully disagree with using mothers on the exhaust ports, only because I shined my exhaust headers with mothers once, and the heat of the exhaust tube turned the mothers into a paste that became hard as a rock

A full port job if done right should cost about 500 dollars. There is an enormous amount of work. Any less might not be as good a job as a fair amount charged. You could say you get what you pay for, but like anything in life there are exceptions.

No gain for polishing 2stroke exhaust port. There might be a few problems as well that it might cause.
@rinterstate

Why shouldn't you ? Can you explain please., Thanks
@-JX-
@-JX- 9 жыл бұрын
rinterstate As you know, 2 stroke ends up having unburned gasoline on the exhaust, the gasoline will return to the cylinder and the polished port will mess up the mixture.

@-JX-
@-JX- 9 жыл бұрын
quadrider47 English isn't my main language. The exhaust outlet also works as the up-flow channel. When the expansion chamber pushes the unburned mixture back into the cylinder, A polished surface turns the mixture to droplets and brakes of the mixture flow. While a little rough on the surface will make the mixture flow faster. Also known as the "golfball effect"
