Video of a Black Porsche Cayman 987 I purchased back in 2017 restored and sold within 2 weeks.
My camera ran out of battery halfway through the project. I didn't manage to capture the coating procedure or aftershots on camera, so I decided to not use the footage. One year later, I thought some of you might still like it so I tried to make the best from the little footage I had.
Let me know in the comments if you actually liked it or not, and remember to subscribe to the channel if you enjoy the content.
For those who want to know what actually worked best to correct the paint here are the steps that I did:
1. Decon with Chemical Guys Citrus RED (discontinued soap)
2. APC and brush on all intricate areas
3. Hand wash (+ rinse)
4. Iron X and Tar spray (let sit for 5 min and rinse)
5. Full clay bar (+ rinse, dry and put inside to dry for the night)
6. Removed some stickers and rear 'Cayman' badge/emblem
Actual correction:
7. I started polishing with a heavy cutting pad and Menzerna FG400 as you could see on the video. But it was too heavy for the soft paint. I stepped down to a softer pad (medium) and lighter pressure/less working time. So I just went over each section in 2 passes, with light pressure. This worked as a 'mow down' and got most of the deep defects out but it took quite alot of paint with it, left the surface pretty hazy (as shown on the video) and my pads got really full with residue (literally every single section I had to clean out my pad). So this took quite a while.
Then I wanted to jewel it up with carpro essence, but I didn't got the result I desired. So I had to jewel is with Menzerna 3500 (very little product + some water in a spray can, to further dilute/diminish the product) because otherwise I would still have a hazy finish.
This + being very careful in the product wipe-off gave me a 100% perfect end result.

Thank you for this video. Your use a cut 400, medium 2500 and 3500 finish ?

The 400 turned out to be way way too agressive. Paint was extremely extremrly soft. Used a combination of 3500 and water!

@@fredbikers No, but the paint was very very soft in my case. 400 literally made it matte with the white haze you can see in the video.

What about enviroment? Where does all the chemicals go... in the earth ... super!
@AaronMattheus
@AaronMattheus 3 жыл бұрын
Which chemicals do you mean exactly? The shampoos I use are Biodegradeble which mean they degrade themselves with no harm caused to the environment. The polishing is done with 3 peasize dots per panel. So I use about 10 grams of polish for an entire car. And the polish destroys itself in the sanding process as an abraisive that turns into dust. So the total of product that's left over from an entire detailing process is some dust which won't even add up to 5 grams in total, which is mostly bio deposists and dirt from the environment anyway. So I really don't know what you are talking about. I think going on one vacation by plane will pollute more than detailing 180.000 cars. So I hope you never take a single vacation by plane, or drive a car for more than 200km in your life because of the pollution. Detailing is literally the least bad thing for the environment I can think of. I work 3-5 days long with maybe 20-50ml of products.

How did you take off the grime that built up when you de badged?
@AaronMattheus
@AaronMattheus 4 жыл бұрын
Try to take as much of the glue residu off with your fingernails first. Then wash it with soapy water. Then clean it with a tar&glue removing product such as Carpro TarX or Gyeon Tar. That should get all the gunk off. But you may still have an outline of where the emblem was. To remove this you have to machine polish the area for a couple of minutes.

Aaron Mattheus thank you, it seems to be some serious build up, I got all the glue and sticky stuff off. It’s like a hard build up and I tried to use goo off. I will try what you recommend next. If that works then I will detail. Thanks again for the response

@@tony7150 Compounding/polishing should get the rest off. If it doesn't you might want to try some really fine 3000grit wetsanding, then compounding and polishing.

How did you find the hardness of the clear coat? I'm doing mine this weekend for the first time.
@AaronMattheus
@AaronMattheus 3 жыл бұрын
In my case it was very very soft. I started off with a medium compound and medium pad and I kept seeing scratches so I thought 'wow I have to go heavier'. Turned out the paint was SO soft even just the compound itself and removing it with a microfibre was causing scratches to the paint. I then went to the finest fg3500 from Menzerna I had on the softest pad I had and it still was to coarse. I ended up using Larry Kosilla from Ammo NYC's 'water polishing' technique, where I used 1 dot of polish and 5-6 big sprays of water to dillute it down further and that did the trick. However, I still had to watch out I didn't simply reintroduce the scratches by wiping the polish off the panel. I don't know what happened in this case, but it was a real struggle and pain to work with. Worst car by lightyears that I've ever worked on. However it had a lot of solvent pop ect, which makes me believe it might have been poorly resprayed at some point. So I'm guessing that's what caused the finniky paint quality. Normally you should be fine.

what was wrong with the car (sale reason)?
@AaronMattheus
@AaronMattheus 5 жыл бұрын
Haha it's funny how people always think there must be something 'wrong' when someone sells a car. There was nothing wrong with it, in matter of fact, it was GREAT. So Great that I felt like I just HAD to buy it when I saw it online. It had all the right options, low mileage and perfect history so I bought it, drove it around for a couple of weeks and had great fun with it, got to spend time washing it, detailing it and nerding out with it :-). And then I found a new owner for it. I just bought it temporarily because I already had the Megane RS at this time, and I completely don't need (or want to pay for) two cars at the same time. So it was fun to have for a short time, clean up and get rid off. Hope this is a clear answer :-). I recently spoke to the new owner and the car is doing very well.

@@AaronMattheus I understand, no intention to offend, thought you should know, viewing 1st time I didn't watch for very long, so didn't know that your talking stopped, thought that was how it would be for the whole thing. Music over speech is just a turn-off for me. Good job on the Cayman. I watch detailing videos, especially if its a Porsche, always looking for new info or advice. My Panamera is 3yrs old now and metallic black, I try to keep it really clean so will wash it several times a week if possible, it has resisted swirling very well. I had Gtechnic done on it a year ago, so it cleans easy, all non-contact, Foam/Jet Wash Rinse/Brush or sponge on lower areas if required(winter)/dry with Microfibre towels then some quick detailer spray. Your foam is much better than mine which is quite watery, I use Bilt Hamber but whatever setting I use on the gun will not make it thicker, but it does the job. Dank je.

@@rolonow12 Thanks for the lovely comment man. You should really try 'Autobrite-Magifoam' gives the thickest foam possible. The paint on the cayman was horrific to work with. Scratched on every touch. It was so soft that I had to polish it with Menzerna 3500 dilluted with water. But really, try the autobrite magifoam. You'll love it.
