Every Paintwork is Unique. Even in a specific manufacturer, the paint can differ from model to model. Every paintwork requires a "Test Spot" to ensure you have a proper combination. I would recommend to start with V36 and an orange pad as a baseline then adjust the pad or polish accordingly to achieve the desired results. -Greg@CG

@ChemicalGuys12 жыл бұрын
Try using less polish. It seems like maybe you are using a little too much. You should only use 5 small dots for each section. You can always add more polish to the pad if you didnt add enough but it is much more difficult to remove polish. Once your pad gets saturate with "spent" polish, you need to clean the pad using a pad cleaning brush or a Pad Washer. I personally prefer the Pad Washer because its gets the pads VERY clean with little effort. -Greg@CG.

@ChemicalGuys7 жыл бұрын
Hi Hal, this is a trifling question indeed, I actually found a really detailed article on the subject that I think will answer many of your questions, and it will teach me a thing or too about pads as well. The simple answer is the stiffness of the pad and the density of the foam, however I'll take a seat back and allow the article to more accurately describe what's actually happening. www.ereplacementparts.com/article/2663/Abrasives_Polishing_Pads.html C.G. I have a 1986 classic car 🚗 with original paint. It sat in a garage for a number of years before I bought it and the owner told me something must have dripped on the top of the car while it was storage. It looks almost like water stains, but it’s not. A friend came by with his D.A. polisher, but it only removed the haze in the finish, the marks or swirls still remain. Anything you can suggest would be greatly appreciated as I would really like to save the paint as the car 33 years old and all original. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for checking out the video! I've included a link to the hex pad page of our site which outlines all the uses for the different polishing pads, I've also included a description of the orange pad which would be the best choice for you based on the amount of scratches and swirls in your car's paint. Orange Medium-Heavy Cutting Pad-This firm, high density foam is ideal for scratch and defect removal. The orange foam offers the correction of a typical compounding pad while at the same time allowing the polishing ability of light cut foam pad. When used with heavier compounds it will remove moderate swirls and scratches with little or no haze. Its an all around pad that will work on most light to moderate imperfections. www.chemicalguys.com/Hex_Logic_7_5_Buffing_Pad_Kit_p/buf_hexkits_9da.htm

If time is not a problem and I have all the products, should I do a 2-3 step polish and finish with V38? I am asking because sometimes I see that you stop at V36 and was wondering if you stop there because the V38 would be overkill? Also I have a white 2013 volkswagen jetta and was wondering if that paint is considered ''hard'' or ''soft''? I tried V36 with an orange hex pad and it removed about 20% of the swirls. Should I try V34 or even V32 with an orange pad? I am affraid to go to aggresive. I have the torq 10FX and use it on speed 5
@brandonkapana24538 жыл бұрын
try sticking with the V36/VSS but switch over to the mircofiber pad. If that doesnt work u can switch over to a 34 with a yellow pad, and if that doesnt work then switch back over to a microfiber pad again and so forth. Just work your way down from least aggressive in pads and compounds. You'll see that there are many different combinations that could get the job done! hope this helps.

@ChemicalGuys6 жыл бұрын
Hey Marko, the green pad is definitely more aggressive and is considered a heavy polishing pad. The white pad is less aggressive with less cut and is considered a medium-light polishing pad. The pad you use will depend on the condition of your paint and the recommendations of the polish you are using. Check out the chart below to see all the color pads and what they do. When detailers use our premium one step polishes such as VSS, we recommend the green pad for medium scratches and swirls and the white pad for light scratches and swirls. Old 2003 Corolla. Paint is in good ahpe with a few scratches. What paid and wax hould I use to touch it up and which pad should be used on the plasitic headlights that have sunfaded?
@ChemicalGuys6 жыл бұрын
Hi! We always recommend starting on a test spot with V36 and an Orange Pad and then adjusting from there. Wax will not remove any scratches and is a final step in the detailing process. When you get to that step, you can use a cream wax like Butter Wet Wax (my favorite), which is super easy and fast to apply, or you can go with a traditional paste wax such as Pete's 53. I'm going to link an article about how to choose the proper pad, compound, and polish for your car. It will lay out each step you need to take to figure out exactly what products are right for your car. I will also link Butter Wet Wax, Pete's 53, and the detailing flow chart below so you can see all the steps to a full detail in their proper order. So is the white microfiber pads about the same as the white foam ones? Like I've seen red microfiber pads, white like those 2 in this vid, light blue microfiber pads, etc. Should I consider the microfiber pads colors to be for about what the foams colors are used for? And the strength of the polishes/compounds for the color of the micros should also be about the same as you would use with the colors of the foam pads? Thanks!
@ChemicalGuys6 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, that's not exactly true. As you heard in the video, of the two white pads in the video, one was a cutting pad and the other, a finishing pad. This video is quite old and now we offer an orange and black microfiber pad. Choose the Orange Microfiber Cutting Pad to remove heavy swirls, scratches, oxidation, and defects from single stage and clear coat finishes. Follow up with the Black Microfiber Finishing Pad to restore depth, gloss, and luster, and refine any heavy compounding marks. Conversely, the Black Hex Logic Foam is a finishing pad with no cut. Thanks for watching, Michael, and check back later today for a new video upload!

If you want to apply glaze, sealant, and/or wax my machine, then yes, you should pick up the black Hex Logic pad, as you should never apply them a microfiber pad. If you choose to apply by hand, then you won't need the Hex Logic pad. Also, just a reminder that you can only apply glazes, sealants, and waxes with a DA machine and not a rotary.

Don't matter to me, I just wanna figure out what the better of the 2 is, if one's even better than the other. Thx for y'alls support!! Big Time. Oh crap, I forgot to ask you if I ordered the right size micro orange and black- " Chemical Guys BUFX_304_6 - Black Optics Microfiber Orange Cutting Pad (6.5") "- and the other microfiber one- " Chemical Guys BUFX_305_6 - Black Optics Microfiber Black Polishing Pad (6.5") "! Woops. Oh yea, I got a new 6" backing plate. Has velcro, "hook n loop" I guess ya call it. Decent da but not porter cable quality. I'm also prob gettin ready to buy y'alls da, that newer more ergonomic one, not the other one y'all have been sellin for long time. The other, can't remamber the name though! ughh! Hope I edited this in time! Can y'all suggest the right liquid stuff as well? Likje the correct compound, polish, wax, etc, etc stuff for these pads? I got 06 RED Ram, hemi, 4 door, never been taken care of properly but it's paint's still lookin decent. (paint's called the "inferno" red by the door code)Just some scratches in lots and lots of places. Some deep as shit! Some not. But paint still shines somewhat, especially for not being taken care of right for 10 years or so. That's it CG's! I'll leave y'all alone now! Or go back to ur site for anymore questions!!!

@ChemicalGuys6 жыл бұрын
Hey Luis that depends if you're looking to do a one step polish or a multiple stage correction. I think you can achieve a more accurate and precise correction when you do a multistage correction. In case you're not familiar, single stage polishes are like an all-in-one for light to moderate swirls. If you are looking for a comprehensive treatment, go with a two stage correction. Here's a suggestion. Start with V36 with an orange pad and see if the desired results are achieved. Depending on the severity of the scratches and swirls on your paint, you may need to use a more aggressive compound. Finish off with V38 and a white pad to remove the marring marks created by the abrasive pad. Don't forget to top off with glaze, sealant, and wax for the ultimate protection. Feel free to send us pictures of the before and after, we would love to see them! C.G. Alex-

you should put a description/foam type on the back of the pad

I have a clear plastic speedometer for my new motorcycle that has a few very light scratches. I have the 3 inch foam pads. I have the clear plastic polish. Which color should I use to remove the scratches. Want to be sure. The video I saw shows a buffer pad that was yellow although a different shape. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey John! We recommend using the Orange Hex-Logic Pad for most polishing jobs.

Hello! Should there be any very small swirls (not visible to normal light - but visible in a very sunny California day at noon) after treating a Jeep Wrangler with an Orange Hex-Logic Pad with V32; and then a White Hex-Logic Pad with V38? And should I follow with a VSS Swirl Remover? Note: the clear-coat was in terrible shape, and now is great; but it is still not perfect (is perfection even achievable? - make it look like brand new again?). Thanks for your help

Hi Frank! No paint will ever come out in perfect shape. We recommend applying a glaze to fill in the micro scratches left behind. Thanks for watching and thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family!

Thanks for this video. What pads would you suggest I use on an 05 Navigator. It has been neglected through the years and has plenty of small scratchs. I want it to look good, I dont think I want to go through cuting, polishing and then wax. Can i go straight to polish and wax or would that be a waste of time?

Im looking to buff resin. I start out at 200 grit sand paper and work my way up to 2,000. after Im using a novus 3 step polishing comound. Then I hit it with a 3M 35928 Finesse-it II Marine Glaze to remove the very fine swirls. What polishing pads would you reccomend for to achieve a clean polish without any scratches?

so, hard pads for buffing and softer pads for waxing and polishing ?
@ChemicalGuys9 жыл бұрын
eyad aljamal Yes! Stiffer pads make more resistance, friction, heat, and therefore cutting ability. Softer pads make less resistance and heat, so they do not cut. Soft pads are perfect for spreading glaze, sealant, and wax.

There is a way to remove orange perl without sanding just with compound?
@ChemicalGuys6 жыл бұрын
Hi Rafael, good question. Orange peel is going to require wet sanding- there really isn't a way to remove it with just compound. Thanks for watching and make sure to check back tomorrow for a new video upload!

What's a good pad for removing water spots on paint and glass?

So my DA kit came with orange, white, and black. He said red is for sealant... So I can't apply sealant with the black? But I can apply wax with the black.... Seems confusing
@ChemicalGuys6 жыл бұрын
Hi! You can use the red or the black pad to apply sealant. Both pads don't have any cut, so you are totally safe to use either! Check out the pad chart below for further details. Thanks for watching and make sure to check back later today for a new video upload! www.chemicalguys.com/v/vspfiles/assets/images/HexLogicPolishingPadChart.jpg

Green is a more aggressive pad than the white one. White is a light polishing pad and green is a heavy polishing
