Hey Pan love your videos!!! I have a question. Do you recommend the waffle style that looks like hills for paint correction or flat pads like with honey combs or plain flat pads?? What kit do you recommend for least aggressive to aggressive correction. I’m using a rotary Mikita buffer. Please help this is something else I want to add to my skill set. Thank you in advanced

Ive worked at many different shops, under many different bosses, with many different detailers and i swear that everyone is gonna have a completely different way of doing things and theyre all gonna contradict what the next guy is gonna tell you. Today i feature products for the detail garage and im the lead detailer at VIP in So Cal. So anyways, i seen a video of DIY Detail giving a product review on Chemical Guys VSS diminishing abrasive combined with a MICROFIBER pad and all i could do was laugh as he was not impressed with the results 😂 I finally came to the conclusion that nobody is ever wrong, we will always fine tune our combinations and techniques while considering the methods of others

Pan, I’ve been quietly binging your videos for a little over a month now. I have to say, I am throughly impressed with not only your content, but your videography, audio knowledge, and your genuine love to share your passions. I was taking my all blacked out 2014 ram 1500 to the car wash for many years and the paint has suffered greatly. I recently purchased a lot of cheap and basic upgrades for my pressure washer and started to wash my truck myself. I’ve very quickly learned through your videos what to do, how to implement, and what to get to up my game and make my life easier and more efficient. I truly thank you for your dedication and heart to share for someone like myself that is just starting out. My truck is in need of some good polishing so I’ll be working my way into it using this video and the others you’ve done to get started.

The DIY products are my favorite line of products and their customer service and education are top class! When I first got back into detailing the process of understanding polishers and pads were overwhelming! You just have to start working different products to begin to understand what works together. I am the oddball who likes using the flex 3401 original version for cutting and the corded rotary for polishing. If I ever get a shop big enough for boats then I will buy a 21mm random orbital polisher! Thank you for the video Pan!

The term DA came from National Detroit's autobody finishing sander that Had the letters DA under the handle that was operated by a counter weight and and offset bearing mounted on that counterweight. Not Flex, which is a German company. If you are a DYI person or a recent detailer, stay with a dual Action polisher. Rotary machines take years to perfect your skill and you can burn your edges and high points in seconds . These product videos are great but they are made to sell product. Thank You
@bigj7574
@bigj7574 4 ай бұрын
Yes, and I disagree with his explanation of DA vs “Random orbital’’. They’re both the same thing. The 3401 is also a DA but it is a forced rotation DA polisher as it’s using dual action.

Is a random orbital polisher the same as a dual action?
@tonyp9609
@tonyp9609 28 күн бұрын
@@redraider1496 Yes, in my opinion . They both use and oscillating action. National Detroit's DA sander and Hutchins DA sander both had an oscillating action that doubled the Grit value of the sand paper you were using to a finer finish, as the same principal is used on the new polishers. Hutchins Co. even made a DA Board sander. Back when, I owned one. Thank You
@bubbagasm1
@bubbagasm1 6 күн бұрын
Gotta disagree. I started with a rotary, and have never had a problem. Just like he says, use common sense. Don’t let the polisher sit in one spot, check to see if the area is hot etc. Pretty simple. And IMO rotary cuts easier especially if your paint is trashed.
@jo90007

Thanks Pam, this is a very useful overview for all experience levels , and I think more especially prudent for experienced polishers . I really love the what/which/when on machines, pads and the pad washer. I have never seen that and will introduce to my shop. So how regularly does one wash/rinse the pad.? The only question comment I may have is there wasn't a section on compound vs polish (what/why/when/which). I personally will make my team what your videos to draw from the knowledge pool and dispel suboptimal;l traits which are very easily transferred during the course of ones career. Please recert on the Polish vs Compound. Thanks and keep up the great work

One aspect, I have always done and it is great to hear Yvan's comments, is to jewel with a rotary. The difference in gloss is substantial. I have used Menzern's P085rd as a jewelling polish for many years. I am very keen to try their 'Gold Standard.' I notice Clean your Car, here, in Britain have started stocking their products. I may add if you have big scraches go wool pad with heavy cut and then fine cut with foam pad. And also a lot depends on quality of chemicals i can recomend koch chemie it worked for me other ones not so much. If you have an DA orbital sure even lower quality is ok. And also patience is very important if you do it by yourself cause if you rush it its not so great as it can be. Those polishers are still considered “dual-action” because yes, the backing plate still performs two actions. The gear throwing the plate, and the plate free spinning in motion-free spinning is still an action, regardless of stall or not.

Awesome! I really enjoyed watching it. I just started my own small detailing garage and I’m mostly working for free, dirt cheap, because there are so many things that I still don’t know or understand. Neither do I know how to price stuff. If I have to be truthful I hate and love it at the same time. I do 2 phases on the paint for 2-3 days for like 10-12 hours a shift with the taping and cleaning after it. But still when I see the result. Even if it’s not the best of quality I really like it. I still need a lot of newbie information so if you have videos about lighting and lamps I’ll kiss your feet. Because I’ve done an Audi Q5 black and have no idea if there are stilll any holograms or not because there is no sun and I tried 4 different lamps and can’t see anything 😢

In other videos, I've watched Ivan compound a panel, leave the residue on the paint, and then polish, as he did here. Definitely more efficient, which is why I love watching Ivan's videos, but isn't there spent product and clear coat in that residue that you're driving into the paint during the polishing stage? Waiting to be enlightened by another pearl of pure logic by Ivan. Thanks for the great video, Pan!

Seems to be a fast way to get mediocre results. Which are fine for most people. Which is what he's offering. There's very clearly a bunch of haze in the 'dual step' section. I love nick tho, hawk pro detailing was always helpful. The carpet cleaning. The sanding and polishing advice. Obviously they're trying to sell their own brand now which is what it is. Take everything with a grain of salt. Best of luck to Yvan in his new endeavor

Thank you for your series of videos. They are a huge help as I start to do my first ever detailing. I purchased a battery powered dual action polisher and it came with multiple pads so I am doing my best to learn which are best. What I haven't seen discussed are the microfiber cloth "booties" that came with the machine. They are designed to go over the pad it appears, but are just standard microfiber cloth . I haven't seen any comments about this type of material. Would they just be for a final buffing? Cleaning glass? I'd sure like to know.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 10 ай бұрын
Don't use those. They won't be of any help. Use proper cutting and polishing pads when doing paint correction. They can be foam, wool or microfiber, but get pads from reputable brands. Thank you for the video guys, great job! If you have a surface scratch that has not broken the clear-coat and you can't seem to remove it with a compound using the blue Rupes pad, would you say you need a better compound (Griots Correcting Cream) or pad or both? I cannot feel the scratch with my fingernail.
@Detailers-Business-Academy
@Detailers-Business-Academy Жыл бұрын
One or the other, also do you really want to completely remove the scratch? It may be deeper than it looks, and instead of having the area of the scratch as a potential failure point, now you have the surface area of the pad as a potential failure point. If you step back 2 feet, do you still see the scratch?

Purple pad is the absolute perfect one step pad for any type of paint when used with hybrid compound. Of course you can do a second pass with soft foam pad and a dedicated polish for even nicer finish. When I attack a car I wash and decontaminate the paint. Then wetsan all the deep scratches. Grab my rotary and pass over the wet sanded areas with wool pad and old faithful m105 by meguires. Then hybrid compound the entire car with a DA 21mm long throw with purple wool pad followed by turtle wax hybrid polish and wax on a red foam pad using the same DA. But I have 28 years experience and thats the fastest way I can achieve the results I desire

Or is that simply a polishing step?

THOUOUGHLY ENJOYED this video, and it answered a lot of the questions I had. I know I'm late to the game here, but just in case anyone still monitors questions on this video, I have a couple. I have a 2011 Altima that has lived outside, uncovered, it's entire life. It hasn't been driven hard - only 46,000 miles - but the elements have taken a toll on its finish. There are a few tiny chips from rocks, etc., but my question has to do with the more serious problems. There are areas of what I would call "pitting" (I'm told from acid rain) and there are a couple of areas above the front windshield of a sort of powdery rust. It's not rust from damage like where the paint has chipped. If you rub your hand over these areas (about the size of a salad plate), most of the "rust" rubs of in a powdery form. I'm guessing that these are areas where the coating is gone, and the paint has worn thin. My questions . . . what can/should I do about the pitting, and will cutting, compound, polish, and wax take care of the rust spots. Thanks so much for your detailed, very helpful, wealth of knowledge.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 5 ай бұрын
Hi Jean. Unfortunately, it's hard to troubleshoot issues like yours virtually without seeing the car in person. But from what you are describing, it seems the clear coat has started to fail, and at that point, there's not paint correction to restore failed clear coat. A paint respray is necessary, as you can't bring back paint that isn't there anymore, or is beyond saving. Welcome to my channel. So what pads, compound and methods will prep my new truck paint for a ceramic application. I have a new ram 3500 pickup with granite crystal metallic paint. Love all the videos and really appreciate how you all share your years of experience to help a DYI guy like myself improve and protect my investment. Thanks!
