Thanks for clearing up the mystery of mechanical compound and polish. I have had numerous muscle cars over the years and was super intimidated by machine as opposed to hand buffing. With your knowledge I can now say I am ordering my first buffer, pads, compound and polish. You have given me the confidence I need to improve my 1967 GTX to showroom condition. I can’t wait to get started. Thanks again!

Man! Thank you! For this diy tutorial! I’m currently in a collision and repair program and we’ve gone through all this and we’ve done labs actually practicing doing all these and I’ve done pretty good where my fender practice piece has looked factory. But…. The thing is they provide us with those pads. Compounds/polishers ready and in step by step…. And I get different answers (out of experience) when I try to get exact match to match. (I get it user preference)….. but your tutorial is a breath of fresh air to quickly grasp the idea of what to use with what. Thank you lol. I’ll know when I get better I can know which to use with what but for a beginner you’re the man

I'm a professional car cleaner and this guy is spot on.One advice i would say is after buffing your car is wax every month afterwards for 3 months to get that gleam an amazing look.I use Autoglym Ultra gloss 4x a year and boy does that give an amazing shine! It does smell when applying and it must stay on the paint 1hr in warmish weather but not in direct sun.It transforms the paint amazingly like you sprayed a coat of lacquer on it.

When it comes down to what pads go with what creams I use pretty much what you have mentioned! The orange pad really does good work as an all around pad! When it comes to a 2 or 3 stage process then I will use a little different selection like MF, Orange then red or black! I wish I did some of my own vids on KZbin that may possibly help begginers, but guys like you do a great job! Thanks for your time and effort Scott!

Thanks, Scott, for the interesting and informative videos. I used to use Megs 105/205 and indeed found the 105 difficult to work with, especially if it got dry and hard. I now use the Megs 110/210 with Menzerna SF 3800 as a jeweling polish.

I did my first polish ever and I'm fortunate enough to have my own polisher. Im watching this video the day after and I've learned a ton. Thank you Scott! For the record, I began with meguiars polish (the black bottle you referred to as a retail product) and a Adam's Polish 3-inch swirl killer polisher. I tackled a whole 2018 Sierra Denali and the machine was fantastic for the job.

Awesome! The way I have understood paint correction is to place them in "buckets": Compounds Polishes Glazes Waxes ...and apply in that order dependent on defects. Sometimes if I have very light defects I will use a polish w orange pad to fill in the voids and smooth out the surface with great success as I do try to avoid using a compound as much as possible. And I sometimes skip glazes as they are there for shine enhancement purposes. I have never dealt w all in ones like hd speed but have heard great things on it.

This is information that I am grateful to review. I'm just outside of being a noob I've used my polisher about five or six times. This is information I can add to my arsenal and I value it very much. I have gotten really great results using ultimate compound and polish duo with lake country orange and white pads. Using those leave the finish very deep and rich on my dark colors. It's very gratifying to see the paint come alive! Thanks Scott for your contribution!

Been watching about 3 hours straight of your videos. Great stuff! A little bit of constructive criticism though. Not on your videos but on your channel. Maybe whenever you have a chance to do so, make a playlist (divide by category) for all your videos so we don't have to scroll through a bunch of videos to find what we need. It will help you with views on your videos also. For example: I leave your channel playing all day while I'm working on my computer. But it doesn't autoplay to your next video because you don't have a playlist. If you did it will go to next video and I will keep listening to you and then once I hear information i want to learn about I open up the video to see what you mean. I think that will just make your channel much better! Links and description of what products you are using in the description box would be nice, but I prefer a playlist. We can do some work and look for the stuff ourselves lol

I remember back in 1972. Shopping at Central paint and body Orlando. Maguires back then had their bottles numbered from number one to number seven. I think one was the most aggressive bottle and seven was a polish. Do they still do that? Or are they just offering those two products. Also we used to buy product for the shop called liquid Ebony. This was designed to remove all swirl marks after cleaning the paint using the other products on. Great video enjoyed the Contet.

SONAX PERFECT FINISH - You talk about technology advancing to the point that a 2 step is obsolete, Sonax Perfect Finish is the closest thing you can get to making a 2 step obsolete. I am sure you have heard of it so this comment is more for the viewers. Sonax 04-06 is also very good at the same thing, just not quite as good at final gloss level of Perfect Finish but 04-06 is $20/liter cheaper than Perfect Finish. Hope this helps people!! A great vid for beginners. I use lake country orange for compound, white for polish and blue for wax. All Mequires ultimate, which I know is a little weaker so the average person doesn't kill the paint but I'm OK with that, I still get good results. I would rather under correct and have clear left than over detail and need to repaint my car.

The difference between smooth v waffle/hex is heat distribution. Theoretically the waffle/hex disperses buffing heat from the pad better than the smooth....In my experience though it makes no odds, only that the designed ones wear down quicker.

Never have any issues with Ultimate Compound. I've had it remove 1000 grit marks with a green hex logic on a PC. I find that pad out cuts the orange and yellow pads of that series. Ultimate Compound on a blue Rupes microfiber discs takes it to a whole new level. Definitely no slouch. No, it's not M100, but it's not too far off either.

really 1000 grit with a porter cable and ultimate compound plus your chemical guys green pad?...could you make a video of that for us?..how many section passes did you make within your 2x2 area to remove the 1000 grit?..how long have you been performing paint correction?..do you offer your service to the public?..what speed did you run the porter cable and how much pressure on the DA?..how did you apply the 1000 sanding marks, with a sanding block or just the sheet and your hand?..how long did you go back and forth with the 1000 grit sanding paper over the panel?..was it once or twice or did you engage the sanding paper evenly through the area and with repeated passes?..was the paint soft or hard when you did this test (what kind of car and the color please)?....could you remove lets say 800 grit with the same process?..how deep could you go with your sanding marks and yet still remove it with your process?...sorry for so many questions:)..but I'm very interested and thank you for your comment

Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing I have a fairly comprehensive write up in my Autogeek profile (dlc95). I've been correcting paint for 21 years now. The paint was medium single stage. I ran the PC at 6 with light, but firm pressure. I want to say I did anywhere from four to six passes. Wow, I can't remember how many passes I did though, great question! I did enough to remove the texture though. I did use a Meguiar's sanding pad. Yes, I do this for income, as well as teach drums. I usually use the Rupes system these days though. My first attempt with 1000 was on a scrap Honda door, but I used M105 on Rupes blue microfiber discs on the PC at speed 4. It ate them for lunch! I've been wanting to to a video. I was sent some new Meguiar's D166 to test. Maybe I can do both? I did have a Caddilac that needed wet sanding on the hood. It was resprayed, and was super hard. I sanded with 2000 grit, and the PC/Green pad/M100 struggled hard. I used Rupes Duetto/Zephir compound/Blue mf disc. Back in the 90's I used wool pads on a rotary, and the old school Meguiar's M04, M01, M02, and M09 to do this. I gotta say thay I love these new orbital polishers. Thanks for the questions! Love your work, and videos!
