My one Great GMom “Bobba” left Eastern Galicia when it was still part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire in 1890s before it was Poland post ww2. Her first husband came for work in the coal mines in Eastern Pennsylvania- He was killed in a train accident leaving her a young immigrant widow with 8 children - she married the Swedish widower next door- I came down from their second start- they were my great grandparents- ❤❤❤- she was fearless - one day I will see her home country ❤feeling grateful

My great grandparents came from Polish Galicia. One came from Slopnice and the other from Skrzydlna. I visited Krakow 5 years ago and enjoyed it immensely!

What a wonderful channel you have here. Thank you very much to those who have put all this together! My ancestors are from this area. I do not recall what age my grandfather was when he left to move to USA, but I was close with my grandpa, and I recognized certain traits he had which were very Polish. He was a musician. He loved the Polka. He had a certain buffet he liked to go to, and was partial to certain Polish style foods. No one has really told me much about his origins and I have always wanted to know more. It makes me so sad that Galicia is basically gone now. I would like to, some day, visit the area. I am more curious about this than any of my other ancestral branches because it is the one I know the least about. So again... Thank you!

Many people left because there was tremendous famine. My ancestors emigrated to Shamokin, Pennsylvania and worked in the coal mines like many others.

That it should - this may be hard times for all of us who still live here, but still this country has so many beautiful places to visit, most of them placed in the southern parts for that matter. I imagine what the descendants of those who left for Americas must feel when they come here and how strange and bizarre this land must seem to them. Right now I also think about how much pain and sadness it caused those who left here - because back in the days (meaning especially the second half of XIX century) when people left such a place they never returned...

All my grandparents came from various parts of My mother's parents came from Galicia. My maternal grandfather Pyskaty came from Debica. My maternal Babacia Hedwiga Kolacz came from outside of Krakow. They settled in Plymouth PA.

My last name (галецькии) literally translates to “Galician.” My family moved from what is now Ukraine during the Bolshevik revolution in 1917 due to my great great grandfather being a cavalry captain. They immigrated to Poland. My great grandfather and his father were imprisoned in 1939 during the invasion and forced to work in a lumber camp. Upon liberation, they all moved to New York with their wives and children. Neither I nor my father, nor my Austrian born grandfather new the old country. My great grandfather spent his childhood in Poland and his adulthood in chains. My great great grandfather spend much of his life trying to make a life for his family. Here I am, trying to put the pieces together and return during a time of renewed upheaval.

records show that my grandfather was born in Austria in Galatia. Very interesting so hard to comprehend though... Being considered Ukrainian whose culture is Carpathian Rusyn our religion is Russian Orthodox. My grandfather came to America he was born 1888 died in 1959 he settles in Pennsylvania with my grandmother Julia.

“Gelecia Au” would be referring to Galicia yes? Thats what I found on the records but I also saw records that said Russia, Germany, and Poland and my Aunt doesn’t remember and my grandpa who knew died before I cared enough to ask

There is no Polish western Galicia, this is a territory malopolska that was renamed Galicia.

For our purposes the use of the term Polish western Galicia makes sense as eastern Galicia refers to Ukrainian lands ( Halychyna in Ukrainian)

Both sets of my grandparents came from Polish Galacia. They left in the early 1920s to come to North America.
