@@dewaynethomas3122 you are required to have a driver's license to buy a gun legally. Also some cars are more dangerous than others. Why not make all cars max out at 80 mph and under x weight? Guns for citizens are for self defense. Cars are for movement from place to place. Both cars and guns can be misused to hurt or kill people. It's a valid question.

@@joshh7819 Is that right? www.huffpost.com/entry/the-easiest-states-to-buy-a-gun_n_5735cfa8e4b08f96c182dc38 I'm not gonna even bother reading this shit. I can spend the same amount of time buying a gun off craigslist where I know for a fact I won't need an ID. Regardless, cars aren't specifically designed for destruction. That is the only goal of a gun. But limiting road car's top speed isn't actually a bad idea. Not that this analogy makes any sense anyway. He woulda been better off asking why we don't ban knives. Except, we do ban ones that are specifically made for destruction. I'll quote what's illegal "Any blackjack, sandbag, metal knuckles, dagger, knife, razor or cutting instrument, the blade of which is exposed in an automatic way by switch, push-button, spring mechanism, or otherwise." And why can't we legally mount guns onto cars? You literally can't even mount a dummy (fake) gun onto a car. Weird right? You know what else kills people when being misused and is illegal? Drugs. And they aren't even designed to kill people. Well, most of them at least. What happened when people realized they could cook meth using an over the counter easy to find drug? They made it much harder to obtain it. But please, don't give me that shit about guns being needed for self defense. We are talking about automatic weapons here. Are you afraid of being attacked in your home by a car full of clowns or something? A fucking mob? Shit, why aren't rocket launchers legal? Can't miss with one of those.

Mass shootings are not necessarily up and you fell for the hook line and sinker of the definition of a mass shooting changing. There is no actual definition for mass shooting so your sources will vary in total number. Terrorists acts of mass shootings are definitely up but doesn't mean guns are the problem. Your last statistic doesn't count that 64% of the shooters killed themselves or other circumstances where the shooter ran out of ammo, fled the scene, etc. An unarmed person isn't stopping someone who isn't willingly stopping someone with a firearm without an element of surprise. You could do a sample where someone unarmed tries to rush a shooter and 9/10 they will fail. Add a firearm to the victims hands, the chances will go up.

Oh, backed by a seal clapping audience, seats filled by the ignorant and fearful, a stacked panel of shifty, fact twisting anti-gunners, who dominate only by numbers to one pro-gunner, and when failing in logical argument, the moderator (Maher) conveniently ends the show. Sad truth is the left's (Democrats) answer to gun violence is always through legislation, passing more laws prohibiting firearms as a legal civil defense against crime, under the false security blanket that the government and police state is their saviour, Horse Manure!

No one has ever made that argument. Also: driving a car is a privilege, not a right. Big difference. If owning guns was not a constitutional right, then there would be no issues with some sort of DMV-like registry of gun-ownership with titles that have to be transferred, etc. But just like you don't have to register and receive a license to exercise any of your 1st amendment rights, you shouldn't have to do the same for your 2nd amendment rights (within reason: I find it reasonable to have to receive a license and register to own automatic weapons or explosive weaponry like RPGs and grenades; but not for semiautomatics and lesser firearms that are used for hunting, self-defense and sport).

Jesus... How do you enforce _any_ law? You punish those that don't comply. Christ, this guy is making it seem like it's impossible. Again, how do we regulate _anything_ ? Like, there are some people who don't get a driver's license, but they also get busted if they are caught driving without one. Here's a thought: maybe we should approach owning a firearm like we do cars? Perhaps you should get a gun license that has to be renewed (which would also entail a background check) every 4 years? Just model it like you do with getting a driver's license. Take "Gen Ed" and get a learners permit that lets you shoot as long as another licensed gun user is with you until you can get a full license. Also, you have to be able to _see_ so an eye test would be involved. I think that would be pretty reasonable. As far as gun sales go, just like with cars there would only be certain kinds of firearms that would be allowed on the street. Also, as long as you are then a licensed gun user, you could buy any street legal weapon you want without a background check because all of that would have been taken care of when you got your license. And then you would register your firearms and get a number for every gun you own. Perhaps even require people to get insurance to go with their guns much like you do with cars. Yeah, the more I think about it, I think that would be a pretty good idea. Gun Licenses... Think about that and start talking with people about it! ;)

So the issue is not to have a mandatory background-check, but to hold whoever sold a gun to someone going onto carrying out a crime to be held partially responsible, no? And THAT would be fine to add as a law.
@CybershamanX
@CybershamanX 6 жыл бұрын
+Zarkow You were reading my mind and I was _just_ making a post about that! Just finished it... Hope this makes sense because I really think this is a good idea. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I think this deserves some serious consideration. :) Making it so the time of the background checks is focused on the user license rather than at the time of sale, it should result in less chaotic flow of background checking. Right now, background checks happen at the time a gun is purchased which takes time and sometimes get backed up. So, if we had gun licenses, the checks would only happen at the time of application (and renewal) for a license. I've heard that background checks often get backed up. So, with gun licenses when somebody buys a gun, all the seller would have to do would be to fill out the back of the title for the firearm (just like you do when selling your car) stipulating who the purchaser is and their gun license number. Then the original owner would then mail in their part (make it a perforated tear-away portion of the title) which would indicate to the government that they no longer own the weapon and that they sold it to another, including their name and license number. That absolves the original owner of any responsibility if the new owner doesn't follow through with registering their purchase. _Just_ like with cars! Sounds like it would be easy peezy and quell any worries about gun sellers having to be responsible for doing the background checks. :)

@CybershamanX
@CybershamanX 6 жыл бұрын
+Linda J Allen I hear where you are coming from. That gets into the psychology of the mass gun ownership and would be incredibly hard (if not downright impossible? :/ ) to put into legalese. What number of guns is too many? Is a pistol "worth less" than a rifle? Does a large magazine count? What size of magazine? I definitely feel your thoughts. But, there are legitimate collectors out there who, say, have many historical weapons or even just different models of today's guns. So, there's a difference there, too. When is someone a collector and when are they stockpiling for a conflict? Can you only have so many of one make/type of gun until collecting is not what you are doing? I hope this makes some sense. Thank you so much for your feedback! :) BTW, yes there are definitely some illogical people out there. But, my appeal is to those that are of the reasonable variety. There are plenty of them out there. Many, in fact. I once worked in an blue collar rural environment and there were many gun owners. All except for one guy could be talked to in a very reasonable (like, a fun sit down and have a bite and a beer with) manner. I think the media doesn't do enough service to the many people who are nice and intelligent. Sadly, you usually see the worst side and even more sadly, from groups like the NRA. I know several gun owners that don't like the NRA at all. But, anyway...(I need to sleep! ;) )...I think the license idea is pretty good and addresses a lot of the concerns that the gun owners I've known talk about. Also, the idea that _all_ guns might be taken away is also being spread by the likes of the NRA in an effort to spread fear and distrust. But, ask (to my knowledge/I could be wrong) any pro-gun control politician and they will say they are _NOT_ out to do that (with the exception of military grade weapons). There may very well come a day that that happens (when most people are comfortably in the middle-class and feel safe...so less income inequality/racism/employment, in other words), but right now, getting a reasonable handle on the flow and use of guns is likely the best way to go. Have to sleep now! I hope some nice gun owners come by to give their thoughts/ideas. Take care! :)

The problem is that prior to "stand your ground" laws. Most states had the Castle Doctrine which meant you had a right to defend yourself in your home without a duty to retreat. These stand your ground laws extend that to being outside without having a duty to retreat when that option is reasonable and available to you. The problem is how it has been applied in different cases. Under "stand your ground", you could literally start a fight with someone, they fight back and as soon as you feel "threatened" you can shoot them and claim self-defense. Afterall, it's your word against a dead person and if there's no one around, it's hard to tell who started the fight. This is much clearer if someone were an intruder and broke into your house under the Castle Doctrine but with stand your ground it makes "reasonable" threat much more subjective.

The reason its brought up is because leftists keep on treating guns like they're sentient. 500 guns belonging to one guy doesn't make him a 1 man army, just like one guy owning 500 cars doesn't mean he can clog a freeway on his own. It's about the intent of the person, not the object itself.

I do get it though. Today while I was a passenger in there car in a couple hour time span we saw 6 people that were swirving in their lane. As we passed each one I looked and 5 of the 6 were texting and driving. The last one was reading paperwork off a clipboard on the steering wheel. Amazing I did not pass one person waving around a gun. So my life was in more danger from idiots driving than someone with a gun. Texting, drinking, excessive speeding, distracted driving are all intentional acts so I don't consider people killed by these people accidents. Autonomous driving is still a long way out until then more people are still killed each year through driving than by a gun. Yes the primary intent of a gun is to kill. Nonetheless it is used for other purposes as well that does not involve killing humans. Just as the primary purpose of a car is not to kill yet does so very effectivly from drivers intentionally driving distracted. I personally think anyone killed by someone drinking and driving or texting and driving that driver should automatically be charged with 1st degree murder. Everyone knows doing those acts while driving leads to a higher probability of getting into an accident and killing someone, yet choose to do it anyway and don't care if that occurs. But alas many don't like this argument because many that are anti-gun text and drive and they are more of a danger with their car to others than the average gun owner. We can have background checks. Implement mandatory training. Make all private sales through a FFL, every 5 years a test to check firearm proficiency or evidence classes have been taken in that time. Implement 96 hour waiting period which would perhaps stop the people who buy a gun and kill themselves right away or people in domestic situations that are angry and would allow a cool off period, but I don't know how many that would impact. Suicides make up around 55-60% of all gun deaths. Countries with strict gun control like Japan still have excessive suicide rates, just not from guns. Those suggestions I think would help.

As for knives, even with a sword, it is unlikely you could kill sixty people before being stopped. Because cars and trucks can cause problems on the road, we ask they be registered, insured, and the driver properly trained. We don't ban bicycles in an attempt to be fair. It's about putting in controls that give the greatest benifiet for the citizenry while trying to protect individual rights. It works fine in Canada.

That's a tactic taken straight from the Russian trolls right there. When faced with a point you can't argue, ask an unanswerable question in response, then refuse to move on until your question is answered. That way you 'feel' that you won the point, and unsiphisticated onlookers might feel you did too.. but you actually did nothing for your argument, or against theirs. Just used a rhetorical trick. Like she's going to be able to lay out the complete nationwide logistical fix to background checks RIGHT THEN AND THERE. PLEASE. When you see those disingenuous 'valid questions' thrown into the argument specifically to make you look unprepared, when it was only asked to counter a question THEY were unprepared for.. a red flag should go up, and you should treat them as trolls from then on, not as perfectly reasonable people who simply disagree. He doesn't want to find a solution, he just wants to destroy any idea that doesn't make him 100% right, 100% of the time.

You can't buy a gun here at a gun show without a background check, you can't buy one online without it being sent to an FFL and a background check. Pretty soon we won't be able to buy ammo without a background check. ITS NOT WORKING . We have a people problem, not a gun problem. But let's keep throwing laws at it, maybe one will stick.

Regarding the enforcement of background checks for private transfers, the NRA guy was leading her to the path of gun registration. You can't enforce background checks on private transfers unless you have gun registration, at which point he would've said gun registration leads to gun confiscation in the past which is true and goes against the point of having the second amendment which is the people to fight back even against the government. If the government knows who has guns, how many and what types, the government can remove those guns long before some sort of major action. I also hear a lot of ideas on what to do but not how to implement such solutions and if the implementation actually gets covered it usually ends up with the person advocating for government force even violence/death to achieve the end goal.

+smtbigelow Here is the bottom truth with the law (any law, all laws): Laws are just words... It's about adherance, cooperation, application, and enforcement. Right? So, when you let all fifty states have 50 different sets if gun laws, you have chaos in the application, and large loop-holes open up all over these laws. I could continue to make relevant examples and metaphors, but let's move on to an overall solution to this problem TBC.........

I have no idea why americans like guuns so much butarenot really enthusiastic about bettsr healthcare or cheaper education..they seem to embrace forces of destruction more than things which actually matter...the oldest "democracy" has more people killed by guns than many of the so called unstable unruly middle eastern nations..even russians and chinese are not regularly killed by maniacs in their own society because it is their right to arm themselves up.

@@avishekbhattacharjee812 #1 regarding slavery, long after slavery (which many countries besides the US in that era had slavery, even tribes in Africa had slaves) it was eventually realized that slavery was contradictory to what the declaration of independence had stated "that all men are created equal"... an so the American civil war was faught (with guns) and the slaves were freed. 2# I dont know much details about Russia or China's crime rates. But i can tell you, they still have crime regardless. China barley allows people to have guns, and Russia has very restricted gun laws... but they still have crime regardless. #3 goodluck trying to tell Americans to (have laws and live like Russia & China) because it's not gonna happen, and i pray it doesn't... and if we (the American) people are told that we have to live like Russia and China, that's why we (the American) people have the 2nd Amendment. So that we have the strength and the voice and the confidence to tell any authoritarianism to "Fuck Off!!!" and "we will not comply!!!".... And #4, I couldn't care less about China and Russia gun laws and their crime rate and all that BS, because I don't live in those countries (and I wouldn't want to)... it's their country, their laws, their life style, their problems, their choice. My family left Cuba back in the 70s. Before that, my father and grandfather were good law abiding people, and they owned guns... then when Fidel Casto rose to power, one of the first things he did was find ways to regulate gun laws and ownership, and eventually he used that as a way to take away everyone's right to own guns... and then when people spoke out against him, came the executions and the unjustified imprisonment. And the people had no guns to fight back against authoritarian dictatorship. So I say to people (foreign and fellow Americans) the only real gun problem the United States of America has (will have) is when America/Americans don't have guns. God bless 🇺🇸✌🖖✊

We are seeing a lot of FULLY AUTOMATIC guns come into Europe via eastern Europe and from middle east war-zone, ending up in the guns of gangs -- these are guns that have NEVER been legal in modern time for normal people, so again, it is NOT about gun laws but culture and criminals doing what they want.
