i am sceptical about this... in history class and status considerations seem to me to be the primary determinants. i would like if you distinguished thought from behaviour and feelings a little more ... if i am more aware of their interactions , can i not therefore come to more real conclusions by separating them out and choosing accordingly ..? And are there not other values perhaps more influential than " family values " ?

Do poor vote against their own "economic" self interest? Do the wealthy vote against their own "economic " self interest? YES. Some do. Most do not. Economic self interest is fairly concrete. Family values is fairly abstract. Those poor and rich vote against their own economic self interest and for their family interests.

Why are you judging depending on economy? What's so holy about the economy anyway? Demography matters much, much more.
