This podcast hits home! I studied Social sciences, up to Honours level. In my junior degree, Political Science was one of my majors. And my Honours was in Industrial Sociology. This was in the 90s. After that I did a Diploma in Business Development, Project Management, etc. My high school background, I did Commercial subjects, i.e. Accounting, Economics, Business Economics. My working background, I have vast experience in the Banking Industry. I am a Management Consultant, involved in big, strategic and IT projects across banks. My Social sciences background plays a huge role in what I do.

That's good to hear, but do you think it can happen to the recent graduates? I think sometimes it's not the degree but what's happening in the country. Remember, a long time ago, you could get a job with any degree. Today, too mamy have degrees, unlike in the 90s, plus the economy is so bad..

@@liferesetwithboni I agree with you, there is a lot happening and many degrees available. For e.g. back then IT was unheard of. My suggestion is that graduates need to be open to work in other industries. The experience will guide them into doing other studies and not only focus on their field of study.

@langutamacheke2412 Yeah, this degree is not cut and stone, so they have to be creative as I've mentioned on the video.

I'm soo glad you released this video Sis Boni. I am also a Public Policy and Administration major at UCT and I feel confident with where I'm going and the outcome I am going to get. I've always seen people comment on your Tiktok videos about how useless they believe the Humanities and Social Sciences to be. I believe it needs one to be informed and creative when picking their majors ey. I also think a lot of people have extremely unrealistic expectations about the jobs and salaries they'll get after varsity. The job Senzo was gunning for requires 10 years+ experience and I can tell you as someone who checks weekly that firstly there's jobs and secondly a very good salary. The government also provides comprehensive information about how the career path of an educated, qualified public servant progresses and they're looking for professionals within the public sector, hence there's a whole degree which is offered to produce such professionals. Great video as always Sisi, and thank you for keeping us informed.

Completed my politics and international relations degree in 2020, and now i work part time as a construction worker. And i still use my pay to apply for jobs but still no luck. The degree is completely useless. I've been applying for almost 5 years and i just regret wasting 4years of my life for nothing.

I think Senzo was lucky. I think Social Science is not advisable. You need to know someone who knows someone.
