why does the man with this funny hat talk about secularism? We all quite well know that people with funny hats are usually biased in that regard. But maybe I am wrong ann he is just joking while calling secularism an ideology placing it side by side with religion.

In secular society religion has freedom to function in religious institutions. If the religion has an influence in public life, it destroys secular type of society making clericalism or theocraty.

A bit cringe that an expert on secularisation doesn't know that Charles Taylor, the most prominent living author on the matter, is a devout catholic. It informs his thought because he as a religious man does want to understand what happened in the west with regards to religion. If he wasn't religious, he might be satified with superficial anti-religious answers.
