“What was that, last night’s reading assignment?” “So what, he prescribers his own tranqulizers?” Carmela had some great lines this episode

The actor that plays Kennedy also plays an oncologist on Breaking Bad, basically they wnated to pretend he's the same guy lol. It was one of several nods to The Sopranos, the other most notorious one being that Juan Bolsa is a literal Spanish translation of the name Johnny Sack.

Something I always loved was this Mentor relationship Uncle Jun has with Bobby. Him telling Bobby to think about Tony maybe having ulterior motives for Jun’s health in this episode. Or him talking out the ‘do I choose Tony or Ritchie’ debate back in season 2. It just gives so much more depth to some of this side characters. And I love how it develops Bobby’s character within this family

Carmella absolutely has been suppressing these feelings of guilt forever. Since the famous episode “College” where she does confession with the Father who stays the night, they make it a point in the pilot to show her take out a hidden roll of cash from a fake can of soup, and a hidden compartment in the wall with the hidden weapons where she pulls out an AK, etc. Tony clearly does think he is being the good father figure he thinks he had, but carm has a much more real outlook on how she “has allowed evil into my home”, as she says in “college” as well. Also, in their community, divorce is insanely stigmatized both publically and religiously, literally like unimaginable as the devoted Christian she is.

"Jews with better food" is such an exceptionally hilarious line. Sometimes the writing is almost too witty to be coming from illiterate and overweight gangsters 💀

Carmela "All the money you give to Angie bonpensiero, And who knows what other WIDOWS you've got on your payroll.'' I feel like this is again referencing how carmela deep inside knows what tony is involved in. when he says things like ''he went into witness protection.'' she just chooses to ignores it because it hurts too much to confront it, and she is distracted by all the wealth tony brings in

.Carm is the biggest hypocrite on the show !She prays to god but she darn well knows what tony does.It would kill her too loose the flashy lifestyle.

It's why she recoils when the therapist says mafia, she's used to euphemism even though she knows full well what Tony does and what kind of "witness protection" Richie and Big Puss went into.

@@sasha_sash9660 they are all hypocrites in various ways. I would not get into ranking them, I mean you think Ginny Sack is so thick she does not know what is going on? Angie B or Ade? I mean Tony cannot just hide behind it's just business, hiring black people to steal cars, commit murder, but talk about who is more likely to commit theft? And also, she is not flashy.

I also think Junior distrusting Tony really shows his paranoia. Tony always had a soft spot for Junior, even after what happened in season 1. And besides, I don't think Tony even wants the official boss title that Junior holds. He is content knowing he is the one calling the shots. The whole arrangement even works to his advantage in how it makes the FBI divide their attention a bit, as they are focusing on bringing down Junior too, thus taking some heat off Tony.

Aging myself, but for the last two decades I have been saying I like the kind with some pulp. My wife makes the same joke. Also, Carm takes a nap and wakes up having decided, she thinks she can tolerate and rationalize, and get her name on a plaque.

The scence between Carmella and old psychiatrist is one of my favourite in the show. Very brutal, and hard thruths are said, probably the most savage scene in the show, and this show is filled with brutal whackings, or beatings. Melfi for sure knew what the old dude will say to Carmella, as she knew him well. Stupida facking game, such a classic quote from Furio. PS Your timestamps are messed up, there is no one for reaction start.

IMO, Carmella is way more culpable than Tony. He was raised into it, didn’t have other options, or a choice -Carmella did. She had good options (the pharmacist), she could have had wealth without the crime. She still could, as the psychiatrist tells her. But she wants all the wealth, no matter who else has to pay the price for it -Tony’s victims, Tony himself, even her children. Tony has to commit all the violence and pay the psychic price. She’s angry and upset that she has to even witness/put up with him paying that price. She’s complaining to both therapists how hard it is on her that he’s moody/depressed, that he’s not monogamous. She doesn’t have to even think about people he’s murdering, the blood on her hands -until the psychiatrist confronts her with it. Lastly, she clearly wanted, and still wants, more than wealth. She wants the POWER Tony has to “fix” everything with a phone call, like she tells her parents. To control and intimidate everyone through violence without her ever even having to know about it (in this episode the surgeon, and Angie). If only Tony could just do it all, and still be on time for dinner…and be less moody about it. Like her mother says, “the waters part” for Carmella wherever she goes. The only price that really bothers her in the end, is his infidelities -everything else she can justify.

You are not completely wrong, but levels culpability is not a game you can play here. Raised into something is one of the weakness excuses. He knows right and wrong, not just based on their thing's rules, but on society's standards. also a pharmacist is not a profession to become "wealthy," but you are right she wants power.

Tony 110% had a choice. His sister Barbara is proof of that, barely showing up in the show because she made the choice to get away unlike her brother and sister

By design... Carmela (& the kids) know almost nothing about Tony’s mob life. Same with Ade & Angie & Roe. Wives & family wouldn’t be good witnesses in court they know so little about the violence. Everything Carmela knows about where the money actually comes from is just what she can imagine in her head. The reality of the extreme violence she’s sheltered from would be more than she could handle. Just what she imagines is hard to handle & the truth is way way worse. Carmela is just very stupid. Being willfully blind is her only crime. Not mass murder. Carmela is like the strippers.

Not sure why or when they decided on this family relationship with Tony and Chris. They stay with the uncle and nephew thing forever it seems, but Chris is Carm's cousin. Unless he is related on both sides which happens.
@Buttsley1
@Buttsley1 4 ай бұрын
Tony isn’t literally Chris’s uncle, it’s just that Tony was very close to Dickie Moltisanti (Chris’s dad) and saw him as a mentor, calling him Uncle Dickie. So after Dickie is killed years before the start of the show, Tony takes Christopher under his wing and calls him nephew like Dickie did to him
@T3nnAtty1000
@T3nnAtty1000 3 ай бұрын
They clear this up later on. Carmela and Chris’s dad are cousins. And growing up Chris’s dad was like a brother to Tony so he calls Chris his nephew. They also say Chris’s dad is related to the Blundetto’s somehow which would make Chris related to Tony. It’s an Italian thing
