Keir Starmer said things would get worse before they got better for a reason. It was because Labour discovered the tories left the treasury in a far worse position than originally thought. If the tories had done such a good job, as suggested here (so funny) then they would still be in power.

If the previous government left the Treasury in such a bad state, why is the current government rewriting fiscal rules to borrow more, only to then raise taxes further? These tax increases will impact working people because businesses often pass additional costs onto consumers-ironically, the working people themselves. The Prime Minister makes many promises like any other, but nothing seems to change. Remember when the Conservatives took over after the 2008 banking crisis-it had its challenges-but when taxpayers bailed out the banks under the Labour government for their mistakes, what benefits did the taxpayers receive? Our system doesn't truly represent the people but seems to be about control. Questions arise about political donations and the influence they may carry-why would someone be a donor if they're not getting some benefit in the end? It's puzzling how parties can receive a significant share of the votes yet secure few MPs, while others with concentrated support gain more seats; something just isn't right about that. If the system were fairer by adopting a proportional representation system like many of our European counterparts, we might see different results. The point is that none of these parties, within our current system, are going to make a change that really affects the people unless we unite. We could see so much more being done to develop the country in many different ways, but we're stagnant. Only a few great businesses thrive, and people who have the passion to build their own enterprises or work for themselves often can't due to the current system; the added cost of living makes it nearly impossible.

To be fair, Labour totally f’d up the economy in their previous governance. And now the gilt market is now worse than it was under Truss, but no one mentions that. As an independent in this, I find it difficult to understand. Very valid points about announcing policy outside of Parliament; a really unfortunate situation and one that shows total disregard for our Democracy. All very worrying

Because New Labour didn't if you look at the data There borrowing by 2010 was 800 billion at 62% of gdp up from a steady 40% during the bulk of their term By 2010 Brown had steered the economy back on track, Osborne's Austerity and raising vat sent the economy into recession nocking off -2% off gdp then instituted a range of trickle down policies that were supposed to drive growth but just increased debt. Brown and BLair bought into a thatcher lite centrism which came with its own issues deregulation adding to the banking chaos being one and running with John Major's ppi another unfathomable decision. All in all Osborne and Cameron worked hard to destroy the economy labour built failing to regulate gig work and 6 years of public sector pay suppression lead to brexit

@@SlowhandGregi don’t disagree on Osborne’s dreadful handling but I think you’re believing in fairytales if you think Brown had a handle on the economy. Seriously, with the best will in the world, he f’d it right up, left us very badly exposed and to think otherwise is beyond comprehension imo 😂 I’m pretty sure I saw a documentary which exposed the fact he was relieved the levers of power had been removed from him as he didn’t have a way out. The path we’re on now looks like in short order we’ll be back to a 1979 situation. I’m just sick and tired of these short term flip-flopping agendas that do nothing for the long term health of the economy but only pander to the whims of uneducated politicians

He's a smug, self satisfied person, qualities based on absolutely nothing. Brass neck is the new term these idiots are told to use if they've nothing to say. It's the job of the opposition to scrutinise, enquire and clarify. It's about time the Government gives a specific answer to a specific question, rather than the robotic response which is no use to Parliament, let alone the public.

The poor reputation of the Tories and complete irrelevancy at this time means Labour feel no pressure to reply to any questions. The whole set up is ludicrous- what’s the point of these question sessions - Labour have made a plan, with a massive majority and the Tories hold no weight in parliament. Waste of time and money to hold these sessions

Now that Labour are in power, constantly going on about how the Tories wrecked the economy is wasting legislative time that could be put to fixing the wrecked economy. Labour are currently far more invested in preserving their public appearance than they are in governing.
@janetmalcolm61912 күн бұрын
Completely untrue. Check out what Labour ARE doing. Only a few months into government and doing more that the Tories did in all their time. Proved to be a waste of all those years. Nothing achieved. Many things damaged by them. The list is a long one. Austerity that just continued. Everything going to wrack and ruin. People need to take a good look around them. When people come back from abroad they say how tired and shabby things look. I tell them it is the people who are tired seeing absolutely no money spent and nothing improved.
