A woman who studied Economics at Oxford and The London School of Economics; worked as an economist at the Bank of England and The British Embassy in Washington DC. Then worked as an economist at HBOS. She has served as Shadow Secretary of State at the Treasury and is now Shadow Chancellor. On the the other hand, there's Jeremy Hunt, who studied Philosophy and politics at Oxford and has never held any public office with a Treasury portfolio. A Charterhouse Blue Tory boy, with virtually no financial background. Taking care of the rich and privileged, the Non-Dom tax dodgers, tax free banker and hedge fund bonuses, tax avoidance corporations and bloated energy companies. Whilst screwing the ordinary working people of Britain through cuts in living standards and increasing taxes. Same old, same old Tory robber barons.

And yet all her policy has been the same neoliberalism that the Tories shit out. Just with talk about it not being that. The clue is when Labour talk about 'responsible finance' fiscal rectitude and 'reducing the deficit'. She's no less a monetarist.

@Simon John understood - but both sides agreed in 2008 on the bail outs that left the coffers empty (at the time, Tories said they would do the same if they were in power). Under austerity that debt has nearly trebled, it had more than doubled before the pandemic. Maybe first-past-the-post has reduced our options too much, but this MP is good at her job.

Complains about austerity, complains about tax rises. Both or either are required to support the economy. Just the usual party political moaning about obvious required economic policy. Reduction to spending cuts would require higher tax hikes, hurting household income even further.

Like the corporate-controlled US, the UK is fake democracy fraudulently disguised as real democracy. Using its propaganda-wing state broadcaster BBC and its corporate owned and controlled press, Tory or Labour governments are selected on the basis of which can best serve the interests of Establishment at the time. Each time the Tories become too blatantly toxic and a liability for the Establishment, they need a change of puppets and they allow a right-wing-led Labour Party to get its turn at the trough. Labour leader Starmer is more authoritarian rightwing than many Tories, which is why the Establishment is media-grooming him for PM. Out of 650 MP’s, Starmer was the only one invited to become a member of the US rightwing neo-con's Trilateral Commission which explains how Starmer went from becoming an MP in 2015 to Labour leader in 5 years with the help of state broadcaster BBC which led the demonise Corbyn media campaign. The rightwing Blairite/pro-Israel lobby minority, controls the Labour Party and it can never be otherwise in this totally corrupt system based on greed, privilege, gross injustices against the poor, sick, vulnerable etc. The UK is, in effect, a one-party state.

This is how it works. Any person can be resident in uk as a non-dom for tax purposes unless they are a UK citizen. . All income made in the UK has to be paid in full for all UK Citizens but not non doms. What the do is set up Trusts and Companies in offshore British Tax havens like the the Channel islands, IOM, Cayman Islands but if they are not dom dom and never remit the money into the UK it is tax free except for the money they pay the accountants and governments their to look after it which is next to nothing.

I'm in my mid 30's. In my lifetime, the best period of living that I can recall was in the early 2000's when Labour was in charge. Since 2010, it's been awful - Britain is divided and constantly looking for scapegoats rather than addressing it's own problems. I honestly just see Tories blaming everything and anyone, and people falling in line. That's what they want... It's tiresome and I'm now ashamed to be British whilst the rich get richer and the poor die in their droves. Say what you like about an illegal war by Blair (Bush technically...) - 300,000 of our own people killed by 10 unjustified years of austerity, For what!? For private water companies, transport companies, energy companies, bankers, millionaires and billionaires can rinse Britain as though it were a cash cow is utterly utterly disgusting. Anything including Food, Water, Post, Trains, Energy should be public owned. No more plane ticket prices for a train ticket. That is where privatisation gets you. Competition and cheaper prices we were promised back then :( Always voted tory since 18 now 52. Never ever again.
