I never knew there was an internationally 'acceptable' level for collateral damage (5%). Cameron said Israel might be using a figure of 20% for targetting, yet Northern Gaza has been completely oblitered. We've all seen the pictures. A month ago Israel had destroyed 100,000 building's, killed 5000 hamas fighters, and 15,000 civilians. 20 buildings destroyed and 3 civilians killed (half being children) for every hamas fighter is not 20% collateral damage. It is abhorrent.

I agree with your point. I would just add that it is highly unlikely they have killed 5000 Hamas fighters that would mean almost every adult male killed to date belonged to Hamas!!! And we have repeated claims that Hamas are being beaten and they (IDF) are only withdrawing so their troops can prop up their economy. Yeah sure.

Cameron's appointment to the office of Foreign Secretary via the house of lords has brought an interesting dynamic to the fabric of British Politics. The need for a select committee to hold Cameron to the fire is a direct result of that. I like these select committees, they are far more civilised and democratic than the usual goings on in parliament. I think all members of the cabinet should have frequent select committee sessions throughout the year.

I don't say what's right or wrong, nor claim i know what's going on behind the scenes... however wasting chances to speak with and influence Israel because of a publicly broadcasted hearing seems like a poor strategy.
