Without using physicality how do you worship God even if you don't use stone you use a book. From Islamic point of view, Muslims want to go to heaven! That's the highest goal. But for that also you need to take birth in human body you can't jump directly to heaven. So called idol is actually a menifestation of God or even if you believe it's a creation of God , it's a tool, just like other physical creations like your body mind intellect or even quran is only a physical creation. When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to enter (my dwelling place) they used to hide themselves, but the Prophet would call them to join and play with me.
