Unfortunately after following this conflict over four decades I'm reluctant to put hope into a peace settlement. Knowing many more Palestinians than Israelis I tend to sympathise with the resistance of the people, just because of the unjust way this situation has developed. It is hard not to think of the settlers in the West Bank, taking land and houses by force of military weapons, violence and at times with protection by the IDF. Expanding the territory with Israeli government approval and against all UN resolutions, making a two state settlement seemingly impossible and a one state solution even less thinkable. On the other hand the Jewish people I've personally met were good people and there have been victims of violence and attacks on this side too. But even with October 7 2023 casualty numbers are very lopsided towards the Palestinians. Basically no contest when compared. It's a shame that good people on each side aren't enough in number to give any solution a chance. Unreasonable hardliners on both sides are fighting to keep the conflict alive and in my opinion October 7 and the cruelty of the response will keep the hatred burning for further decades. In 1981 at 12 years of age, I wouldn't have believed if anyone had told me this won't end in your lifetime. Today in April 2024 I don't believe I will live to see the day.

About 1165 people died between Oct 7-9. Based on Feb 24 revised statistics provided by Israel About 790 civilians died--650 Israeli Jewish civilians, 70 foreign workers and 70 Arab & Bedouin civilians. And 375 Israeli military and security personnel. Plus an estimated 1500 Hamas fighters were killed by Israel. What no one has addressed is how many of the 790 civilians died as a result of Israel's attacks against Hamas. The fact that 1500 Hamas fighters died indicates Israel used significant force against Hamas. And some innocent civilians undoubtedly died as a result. Which is a common and unavoidable occurrence in war. At some point, Israel might release these statistics.

Sheryl Sandberg's film uses many of the same discredited sources as the New York Times article Screams Without Words. Shari Mendez, Raz Cohen, Rami Davidian, and members of the discredited group Zaka have lied and told ever-changing stories that get worse with every retelling. The facts are that not one testimony from a rape victim on 10/7 exists and only Amit Sousanna describes one unspecified sex act (indicating it wasn't a rape) on one occasion that wasn't 10/7 while being held hostage exists. No physical evidence exists. No photographic or video evidence exists and the Israeli police have over 600 hours of Go-Pro footage taken from dead militants. Not one rape or sexual assault is seen. So what do we have? Just allegations from alleged eyewitnesses, all of whom have told changing stories and most of whom have provably lied.

In 2001 in Macedonia, BBC reported that innocent people which were harvesting mountain potatoes on the border with Kosovo ere killed by Macedonian border police. And than everyone was concerned about the "poor" harvesters. In reality they were digging-out weapons to shoot at the border police. 2 years later, BBC (after all the damage that was done after their "true" reporting) has apologized about the mistake in reporting, but the damage was already done. Even before that, I had very little trust in BBC / CNN reporting, but after this it has gone into negative (-) zero (0) trust in their stories.

Maybe this isn't the perfect time to bring it up, but somebody should report on the fact that Israel is not our friend and never has been and I point out the 1967 attack on the US Navy ship the liberty in which they kill 34 sailors wounded 160 and machine gun. The lifeboats both in the water and on deck used napalm and torpedo did and then blackmailed President Johnson to keep it out of the median quiet and he had this ship sent to Malta to keep it away from the media and this was supposed to be a false flag operation by Israel and they wanted to sink the ship with all hands and tried to convince Johnson to sink the ship to which is undying lack of credibility he agreed to but fortunately our US Navy refused to do that. So yes, Israel's not our friend if they would do something like that and then I have to say Johnson isn't our friend either since he worked with them to keep it quiet and then they gave the medals to the people who were wounded on board of that ship and Johnson didn't even give out the medals. Himselfish normally would be the practice. Instead he had an underling do it offsite away from the White House and then they threatened the survivors to keep quiet and don't tell anybody about it or show their medals. And that tells you the complicity of the government here with Israel

War does NOT mean that you kill exactly as many people as your enemy killed when THEY started the war. This is some sort of modern idiocy. In War, you attempt to defeat the enemy as quickly as possible, degrade their ability to attack in the future, while attempting to minimize the fatalities of your own military. War is not a game. Sexual violence: "Young men with guns, that's what they do"...? That's a throwaway line, but I am yet to hear, read or see the instances where Hamas fighters (not the people that followed them, who apparently did commit criminal acts) have actually have been witnessed committing sexual violence or outright murder. It bothers me because when we saw the start of the attack filmed by Hamas, and the speed at which it was conducted, it is difficult to imagine that they would have taken their time and paused to carry such acts. They were in the middle of a desperate fight, not just resisting or occupying Israeli settlement. We know they showed no mercy to military people, which you would expect, but, in one case where they were caught by the IDF inside a house with civilians, a surviving women mentions the deliberate shelling of the house by IDF tanks but she does not mention any sexual assault by Hamas fighters. Not that it may not have happened but it would be appropriate to research cases where there is evidence that it did happen. Same with other types of violence against civilians. Why is there so little known or reported about that. Does this mean that the "atrocities" just did not happen. All made up? Surely there must be at least contentious cases, apart from the usual civilians finding themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. On some videos we saw earlier from Hamas head-cams, prisoners were made but little violence was shown to unarmed civilians (from the rave). In some cases, like with an old woman taken prisoner, and those who were released subsequently, respect was shown rather than contempt or gratuitous brutality, considering the stress of the situation. Nothing like the brutality of the IDF, Israeli police and settlers' conduct, torture and sexual violence, witnessed or reported by Israeli witnesses themselves. You say you counted every person killed or wounded and checked the circumstances. Will the tally or statistics be reported? Thanks.

The argument of proportionality as having moral equivalence is flawed. If Hamas was only successful in killing, burning raping 1200 people and taking 240 hostages, does that mean that Israel response should be so measured as to allow for Israel to go into Gaza and rape, burn, kill and take the same exact amount of terrorist hostage. This argument totally misses the point Israel is not out for revenge but to stop a terrorist regime hell bent on the destruction of Israel. This is no different than U.S. going after Osama Bin Ladin after 9/11. There are thousands of Hamas terrorist and those terrorist have families that support Hamas.

You are correct. But from the other side. Israel blockading Gaza, taking over farms, imprisonment of people for their political view needs a response. Hamas cannot do the same as they do not have the means so they have a disproportional response in shooting rockets and taking hostages. But on the other hand we need to understand that Hamas wants (and says so) the total destruction of Israel so Israel protects itself by blockading and protecting themselves by removing possible hot spots on farms. The circle continues till someone changes the rhetoric.

There’s images of bony children from all over Gaza. Over a month ago the pictures were taken by doctors and they were individual patients. More recently I’m seeing more photos of groups of emaciated children being evacuated from the north to the south and sometimes out of Gaza for further medical attention when there’s an underlying condition. The pictures are there and should be shocking to survivors of the Holocaust, above all.
