The genetics of polling in cattle (the natural basence of horns) are relatively straightforward - hopefully I don't complicate them for you here. Let me know what you think.

I'm Kaz, a young farm vet working in Northumberland, which is in the North East corner of England. I grew up in the city and found myself doing this job by a very happy coincidence.
This channel is an attempt to show my friends, family, and anyone else who cares, what I do on a day-to-day basis. If you have an interest in veterinary medicine, farming, food or the countryside, join me for the ride.

Great video, really easy to understand. I’d love to see a technical on scurs and how they play into this as well. 🙂

Excellent video. That was actually very very well explained. Well done, and thank you. As it happens, I breed pedigree Irish Moiled cattle who are naturally polled. The word "moiled" is a transliteration of the Irish Gaelic word "maol" which means "hornless". They have very attractive and distinctive markings similar to the Longhorn cattle or a kind of red version of Speckle Park cattle. Anyway, thanks again for the video ;)

Great information. However, I've looked everywhere online and the only examples I can find are Polled Sires crossed with Polled or Horned Dams. What are the possible results if the Sire is Horned and the Dam is Polled? For instance, a Highland Bull crossed with Angus Cow. Thank you for your response in advance!

No sex effect - so as to your question it would depends on the genetic status of the female. As polled is dominant she could be homozygous polled (both copies polled) or heterozygous polled (one polled copy, one horned copy). If former - calf will always be polled; if latter, should be 50:50. Specifically using an Angus cow, as the breed is entirely polled (all homozygous) all those calves should be polled.

Halló. Another channel I watch, Cammy of the sheep game has a ewe just lambed that has brown milk in one of her udders. Any suggestions or idea what could cause it? Cammy said it smelled fine but it’s just the color of chocolate milk. Should the lambs stay on it? It’s in his last video. He doesn’t think it’s mastitis. Thanks.
