5:58 It's not completely true. Car body was designed by italians but interior was empty. Interior of first Polonez was fully designed by polish designer Zbigniew Wattson.

Thanks for adding this information. I focused on the outside bit to much. I was always wonderong why the bodywork was not design ed in Poland. 1970's were this ideal moment for that. I think it was about to design a car that will be liked in the West to sell as many as possible....

It was basically a Fiat 125p floor and engine, that one came from older fiat 1300...
@wieeinstlilimarleen2 жыл бұрын
@@CarRambler1 A bit more complex than that: Fiat 1300 was replaced by Fiat 124, while Fiat 1500 was replaced by Fiat 125. Fiat 125p was Fiat 125 body with engines from both Fiat 1300 and Fiat 1500. But Polonez with engine 1.3 (from Fiat 1300) disappeared early, the 1.5 was modified (AB called "reinforced", going to 60,5 kW, with electronic ignition) and another 1.6 engine (CB) was provided. So, chances to get a Polonez with a Fiat 1300 engines are quite small. Otherwise you would say Renault Twingo from 1993 had "basically" the same engine as Renault 8 as it is also a Cléon-Fonte engine :-)

Enjoyed this! Polonez / Caro is one car I'd really like to have a drive in. Maybe if I visit Poland... It was a shame that FSO were not able to use a more modern chassis for the Polonez. A Fiat 131 or even a 132 would have been perfect.
@CarRambler13 жыл бұрын
If you visit Warsaw there is one Polonez in a car sharing company called Panek. A more modern chassis was not offered, Fiat didn't want to have a cheaper competitor and FSO took the older technology for the same reason. They were not prohibited to offer the Fiat 125 assembled in their factory in Western countries.

Dzięki za miłe słowa. Z tymi anglojęzycznymi wersjami to taki eksperyment. Za jakiś trzeba będzie pomyśleć czy warto :)

No wonder, this was mainly sold in Poland. In 1980's the exported to UK, Germany or Holandi still around only 30 000 pro year were made...
