The band's name HU means HUman as in they are the humans. The basics of the lyrics are telling anyone that would stand against them would have a fight on their hands. to paraphrase some of the lyrics, 'If you come at me like a tiger I will be an elephant' meaning whatever you throw at me you will get twice back from me. Native Americans can trace their origins back to the Siberian and Mongolian peoples in culture and many of their identity aspects.

You are 1000% correct !!!! their collaborations with Jacoby Shaddix and Lizzy Hale are epic. Song of Women is just powerful, as is Wolf Totem. If you want to see something really cool put "biyelgee flash mob 2019 / The Hu - wolf totem". It is over a hundred dancers of the Biyelgee style of Mongolian folk dance in a central square in Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia dancing to Wolf Totem. I get the shivers every time I watch it, at least once a week. After The HU Band, I got very interested in folk metal and discovered other groups from other countries with a similar type of sound. Wagakki Band of Japan is one example of the art of combining traditional folk metal and rock influences. They are not as raw and powerful as Hu Band, but they do some amazing and beautiful work. Then there is Bloodywood, and Indian folk metal band that is also very impressive. From Siberia there is Otyken, who started off with some great folk metal sounds but soon became very commercialized, which is a shame. If you check them out look at their early stuff. In keeping with the general Asian theme, there is Ni Ni Music, a young lady from Taiwan who does metal and rock covers with traditional Chinese string instruments and also makes some electrified versions for herself. She and another musician from Taiwan did a cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" that brought me to tears. Then there is Moyun, a Chinese lady who does rock and metal covers on the guzheng, a zither-like instrument that looks like a horizontal harp. there's another Asian artist who pays the guzheng as a busker in Europe who is also fire. I just can't remember her name. This has nothing to do with folk metal but you might like it anyway, her name is MiuMiu Guitargirl. She's now 10 years old, but has been playing musical instruments since she was 3 and at 6 did a one-man-band cover of Hotel California that even Don Henley and Joe Walsh raved over. She's a multi-instrumentalist and also sings with just the sweetest voice you could imagine. Sorry to get carried away but I get enthused to show new things to music aficionados like myself. Just don't miss the HU Band Flashmob, it is just amazing.

I saw these guys live at a festival here in the UK. I think they spoke about 3 words of English, 'Let's Rock' being 2 of them. The little tent they played was full of metal heads and you could see the band members peeking out before they started their set slightly nervously. Everyone, and I mean everyone in the crowd was chanting 'Hu' as they came out. I don't think they were expecting that kind of welcome. A genuinely fantastic moment.

I saw them in 2019 and they were pretty good, but I saw them again last fall and they were fantastic! Production value has gone up significantly and you can tell they're putting a lot of effort into improving their performances and engaging with crowds that have no idea what they're saying. I would also highly recommend doing the meet and greet if you can. They're super nice and very excited to be sharing their instruments and music with the world. Also this fall the band had 7 members on stage I think. That's what my video showed, but only the 4 main guys did the meet and greet.

I love the symbolism of that horsed warrior in the beginning, how they come over the hill on their modern version of horses. These are the descendants of the ancient Mongols who conquered China, who the Great Wall was built to defend against, who ruled an empire more than twice the size of the Romans, Phoenicians, or Alexander the Great. We still have a version of the word Mongol in the word mogul as in " A great business mogul". The word "Hu" they are chanting means "Our people".

I love this band. I found the lyrics to this song translated if anybody is interested: The lion is in a bloody battle to the death The tiger overcomes the leopard in a match The elephant thrashes the leopard in a contest Man intensely struggles with a leopard to contend We, the lions slaughter the leopards in a match The tiger beats the leopard in a contest The elephant trounces the leopard in a fight Man strenuously strains with a leopard in contention An instigator, the jealousy of a snake it could be And Khan Garuda leaps up above into the air A growl, the jealousy of a tiger it could be The blue wolf comes too from far away Hu - hu - hu - hu... Hu - hu - hu - hu... Provoked, the snow leopard competes with it's rivals Ten thunderbolts strike at the same time A hundred hearts energized in the thundering roar Simultaneously a thousand colliding thunderbolts And too, ten thousand lightning strikes in the heavens Hu - hu - hu - hu... Hu - hu - hu - hu... This deluge is the leopard battling in a deadly fight The surges of the leopard scuffling in competion The awesome leopard swats, blows to overthrow The glistening leopard slashes in the scramble Hu - hu - hu - hu... Hu - hu - hu - hu... With the speed of the falcon advancing The wolf's courage at times flaring up The strength of horses hooves, their paces pounding The mark of Genghis Khan, an overwhelming impression

I love this band. Heard this song a few years ago. Had to go check out a few more songs by them. Immediately added them to my playlist. They’ve done a few Mongolian/American collaborations with artists like Papa Roach and Lizzy Hale of Halestorm. You need to check out more of their songs.

I saw Hu, and that looked familiar, but until the music started playing, I couldn't place them. I heard this when it first came out. And haven't heard anything since. Music and rhythm are deep in all humans dna. And I remembered this from one hearing years ago. Music is The Universal language.

Along the same lines, you'll probably love "Altay". It's a a collaboration between Ummet Ozcan, a Dutch/Turkish DJ/singer/producer, and Otyken (oh-too-ken), a band comprised of members of different indigenous Siberian tribes. And there's throat singing in there too.

The HU's song Wolf Totem has just 11k under 52.5 million plays on Spotify as of Jan. 2024 and IMO it's not even their best song that's not to say it isn't good IMO it's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their music. They did a cover of Metallica's song Sad but True that they sing entirely in Mongolian that's just WOW and one of my favorite songs they've done is called Black Thunder. They have accomplished a great deal in the 8 years that they have been around, they're the first rock/metal band to be honored with The UNESCO “Artist for Peace” designation on November 25, 2022, at a ceremony held at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, France.
