Go to a Primus concert. You won't regret it. Last one I went to there was a guy in a Hotdog costume, and a guy in a cactus costume in the front section. Les Claypool: "I just want to acknowledge the Hotdog and the Cactus, and all I can say is that I'm disappointed in the rest of you" Drummer: "Thank you for pointing them out because I wasn't sure if I was seeing things or not" 😂

This song is about kids getting sent to war. When I was a puppy, I was raised for nothing else. Now that I'm older, I understand what Les was saying. Mind you, this was before OIF, or Afghanistan. Just after Desert Storm, when our dads had been to Vietnam, and Grandfather's had been in ww2, and Korea, Great Grandfather's had been in WW1.. True story. We send too many of our boys to war.

The thing about this song is Les wrote about using our military to "protect our oil fields" at least a year before our first foray into the middle east in 1990. Very prescient.

Primus is one of the only opening acts for Rush that didn’t get booed off stage or people wandered about. I saw them a few times in Hampton ,Virginia and especially on the Roll the Bones tour. Primus came on and performed Kashmir as the opening song. The crowd was of course made up of mostly old classic rock fans ,but the quickly warmed up to Primus and by the end of their performance,Primus was given a standing ovation . Unheard of at a Rush show .

I saw them in Las Vegas when they were touring for Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People, when Tim Alexander came back to play drums, they did the entire Sailing the Seas of Cheese album, then another hour of classics, and a three song encore. Probably my favorite concert ever, and they didn't even have any openers. It was just like two and a half hours of Primus. This song is always the one i show people to really display Les's talent as a songwriter. Everyone always talks about his playing deservedly so. But this was the first Primus song Les wrote. The lyric that really speaks to me is "too many puppies in foreign lands, are dressed up sharp in suits of green and placed upon the war machine." I mean what a lyric that paints a picture.

Primus has always been a trio... Les Claypool (bass + vocals) formed the band in the 80's and they settled w/ Larry LaLonde (guitar) and Tim 'Herb' Alexander (drums) by 1989, recording a live album 'Suck on this'... before releasing this debut studio album 'Frizzle fry' in 1990. Their big inspiration as a band musically was Rush... They recently performed Rush's entire 1977 album 'Farewell to Kings' live on tour. Tim Alexander left a couple of times... first in 1996, replaced by Brian 'Brain' Mantia (drums) who recorded 2 albums before leaving in 2000 to play drums w/ Guns N' Roses (Axl Rose's solo version) for a few years... Alexander returned in 2003 to tour, but left Primus again by 2007... Jay Lane (who was Primus' original drummer in the 80's) joined briefly for 1 album... Tim Alexander returned to Primus around 2014 to record their version of the soundtrack of "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" movie ('Primus & the Chocolate Factory')
