VARNA AND JATI: MEANING, ORIGIN, DIFFERENCES

Note an important left out point: sometimes name of Varna and jati may be same...example: Brahman is name of Varna as well as name of hundreds of Jati all over India; same is with Kshatriya...Also note: in Gujarat and in many places people differentiate between Kshatriya and Rajput, latter being name of a jati and former a Varna

Feature of caste system.. Some caste dominant in local . People are very conscious about their caste . These are ascriptive . Westernization and sankritisation . Very fluid . They follow that customs and rituals .

Vaishyas class come under dvija class . The work of vaishyas is do work in agriculture sector , trade purpose , etc they have land can take loan and also can give loan to others also . Their profit and life dependent on agriculture , and trade class .

Kshatriya .. these are people which do administration of army and king . It protect the king and people of the surroundings .

Feature of caste .. It is based on hierarchical nature which is based on locally . It is endogenous and exogamous . Endogamous means in same caste but exogamous from other gotra . Based on socially Contract hierarchy . Pollution and purity concept . Based on locally in which person doing their work and their ancestor .

Shudras people come under one born they did not able to perform that initiation which leads to dvija .they regarded as impure and did not able to read vedas but there work is to do service even some says they regards as defeated people to aryans .

Changing in caste from.traditional time .. Imtially people do their work accirdung to their caste woth fu satisafaction and linkage cam be seen . But now politicalisation of caste happens it means that caste came in politics and conflict can be seen due to caste system .

Manusmriti tell about that intially when someone birth that person did not sanskari but when intimation happens in yagya these four varnas Brahmans , Kshatriyas and vaishyas became divija but women and shudras are not allowed in yagya so they remain same as shudras and impure that means of that .

About caste and jati and varnas .. Thete are four varnas which is fixed brahmans ,kstariyas ,vaishyas and shudras and other one which did not come in that that is untouchable caste . Jati is fluid which is not fixed there are lot of jati and different people which is nit fixed .caste derived from the portugues word casta .and britishers sees in india concept like that of purity and polluted caste and after 1857 these things changed when people aggression sees on their eating of gun coated with mass of cow and pork but britishers make this system more rigid by deciding that these caste is crimiminal etc by given these name .they also knowns as the epitome of dharma .

Creation of jati .. There are three varnas like Brahmans those do teach people , Kshatriyas those do work of protect others , vaishyas producers and those are dark skin coloured people come in shudras and untouchable even did not come in any category . Varnas system happens from Asiatic mode of production . Jati system creation happens from the feudal production in which person a person from their family do that occupation so their parents also made aware about their son about that occupation so that the source of income can be protect . And when Britishers come they make system rigid by writing down in book etc so that people read this.

Varnas and jati .. Varnas are fixed which is considered as 4 .. Whereas jati are not fixed these are in thousands . Spiritual concept . These are universal varnas . Jati are based on locally . Hierchial system of varnas based on universally . Hierchial system of jati are based on locally . These are not practised rigidly . Jati are more practical .

Jati is traditional based on ancestor occupation on which occupation family person born and hierarchy of caste based on locally and these cast word derived from Casta word of Portuguese which means pure . Jati is not fixed as caste and there are lot of number of jati like that of not varnas that are fixed . In jati are homogenous person marriage and their eating will happens in same jati .

Brahmans .. it is come under category of two born . Brahmans work .. to teaches and read Vedas . To take alms and gift .. To do sacrifice . And they did not have to give tax and brahmagiri land also given to that . They did not given that much of punishment for any crime even if do death of someone only till that they goes out of village or banishment . But they give more punishment from other varnas people in one thing that of thief if they doing thiefing .

Migration of varnas ... Migration of varnas in intiall time is very easy . It is very easy . Intially it was in based on birth . Brahmans are those which do teaching and take part of that . And intially all born as shudras but they practised asa some yag divnita that became as Brahmans but women and shudras are not allowed for that . If Brahmans do work of not good with others they became as shudras . And like if shudras became different like do good things so they treated as Brahmans so system is not rigid in ancient time .like vyas ramyan mother belong to some category lower became higher by this . And vidur mother shudra but vidur do very good thing became noble .
