These guys, Unwound, and Sonic Youth are my favorite indie rock bands of all time. I only got to see them once. As a bassist and guitar player, I am utterly amazed to this day how inventive and innovative their songs are.
@JamiePaquetteMA7 жыл бұрын
The bass player was an equally important part of their sound as both guitarists (who were each awesome in their own right)

Completely agree. I've wondered if he used any overdrive pedals or if his tone was all cranked SVT. Regardless, I think This Eclipse is their best work.

I saw this same tour in CLEVELAND. It was incredible. They played mostly songs from the new album. When LAZY COMET came on, the place went *NUTS* !!! It was a floor-level show, and we were right there next to them. Seems like the same set list. After, I approached the band and spoke to the bass dude. He asked me something like "was it worth it?" and I of course answered "YES". I was surprised by that question. At the merch table was the new album EXPLODED DRAWING and T-Shirts. I bought an older looking one that had a witch on it riding a broom. It said POLVO DE LO ESCOBRAR which I later learned meant "sweep away with the broom". It was white with blue ringers. I wore it until it fell apart. Also available was a repressing of the 1st recording POLVO w the cool cooper ink. It seems like they were using a different tuning from before, which accounts for the lack of the older CLASSIC songs

I saw them 2 months before this in Jacksonville Beach, Florida when I was 16 and chatted with Ash after the show. I remember they covered 'Good Morning, Good Morning' by the Beatles and played a hell of a lot of awesome tracks including Thermal Treasure, Every Holy Shroud, Solitary Set and Fast Canoe. Legendary.

Holy crap, I was at this show- in fact, it may have been the last show I saw at CB's before its unfortunate demise. I vividly remember the insane, long improvised segues between songs. That, and the soundman scolding them for yelling into the mics- lol

At an iconic punk venue too. No yelling! 🤣🤣

@@micklee5152 could have just stuck a limiter/compressor on the mic. Kind of sad to hear no yelling on the mic at a punk venue lol

A mofo guitar clinic - so much knowledge in this set. A true gem of a recording of a lost time. H/t to CB. Saw them at Mables in Champaign in 94-95 opening for Pavement. Just like this, except Today's Active Lifestyles. Been my favorite band ever since.

Tell me exactly how Dave Brylawski has a 1966 Vox teardrop and why the fuck they are using it as the RHYTHM GUITAR
@dickdick1303 жыл бұрын
i've always felt like dave's an equal partner to ash. even if ash is clearly the band's songwriter, i've always felt like dave's parts are a little more difficult to play. and i'm pretty sure that he's usually the one soloing -- not something you see a lot in their older songs, but it comes up semi-frequently in the live videos in post-reformation. I'm pretty sure i read in an interview of ash somewhere that dave had a few years headstart on the 'tar compared to ash.
@synthmalicious75413 жыл бұрын
Dave’s playing is so unique, at moments his guitar feels more like someone improvising with an electric piano on top of the song, Fast Canoe is a good example of it.
