Interesting solution for the sleeve! Used 3 arm puller and heater gun when changed to orange Polybush kit (flexing poly with sleeve fastened to the poly material, so function as rubber oem ones, but more reliable and a bit stiffer - fast road). Got out upper arms, but kept the lower font ones in place and changed bushings right there. A bit less working space but can be a pain to loosen the ball joints.

Also, when I did this job I used a 3 jaw puller and it was so hard to line up. And some of the bushings were so stuck I bent the threaded rod and junked the puller. Then I just set a fire in my backyard patio and threw the control arms into it.

i changed all the bushings in all of the control arms when i installed fortune auto coils on my 99. the bushings themselves were pretty expensive from the dealership and i actually found it cheaper to just buy brand new control arms all around from rock auto with the bushings already installed so no pressing them out, just swapping control arms :) pro tip for anybody else!

This looks like a good solution, I would not recommend using standard or cheap poly bushes in the long term. They can become very stiff to the detriment of safety without regular greasing and maintenance. Even channelled poly bushes require some ongoing lubrication. I’m looking these up because it seems like a good alternative

I was going to use grease fittings in my poly bushing install but i instead found an alternative method. I found Mike Kojima recommends applying a layer of Teflon tape in addition to grease to keep the new bushings from speaking over longer periods of time. The example i saw was supposedly a 5yr old poly bushing install that was pulled off the car still not squeaking. i performed the install with teflon and no squeaking immediately as expected but more time is needed to truly test.

I use marine grade grease on all my bushings, it works really good. It's a must have if you do like a bushing style insert on a oem mount. Be sure to wear gloves, it's insanely tacky.

@zachzwetsch5304
@zachzwetsch5304 4 жыл бұрын
How about freezing the whole control arm, then trying to get the bushing out? Maybe the metal and rubber have different warming rates, or you could freeze then apply a little heat to the outside of the metal as shown here.
@ProModsPerformance

Similar to the included Energy Suspension pins, its odd to me that these pins aren't WIDER than the bushing material itself. To me, without making the pin wider than the bushing, once you torque the bolt, it will still have an element of drag on the side faces of the bushings. Am I in the wrong here?
@brianj9944
@brianj9944 5 жыл бұрын
With these bronze bearing kits installed, will the control arms move freely without the shocks installed? Unlike the preloaded twist of the stock rubber?? I'm wondering if the suspension would be better at absorbing small bumps if it could respond faster do to less stiction and how it would effect the original design philosophy.
@TheCarPassionChannel
@TheCarPassionChannel 5 жыл бұрын
Brian J Yes, with the bolts fully torqued the arms move freely through their full range of travel.
@Ch0k0TB

Dont you think the movement between the bearing ant the sleeve will actually wear them out and thin out the bearings after some time. Or is it the greese acting like OIL in an engine?

@halinw
@halinw 5 жыл бұрын
I finished a 1.8 (not vvt) rebuild recently. Apart from the obvious socket and wrench set the only special tools I used was a torque wrench (you need a 1/2 drive or bigger to torque the crank and fly wheel bolts), and a piston rings compressor. Also the Miata uses 12 point bolts on the head so make sure you have a 12 point set and a 6 point set as if any bolts are seized on at all the 12 points will strip the head but a 6 point should be fine. Then if your going to be re-using your rods you'll just need pliers and a mallet. Using that and the back of a screwdriver you can pop out the piston connecting shaft. I know I'm not Greg but hopefully that helps. Good luck man!

Can you give me a link, if you have one with how the car drives, before and after? I like the SADFab idea! Some guys say it's barely noticeable of a difference, I'd be doing Corvette Arms , so it's pretty labor intensive, (*12 bushings) . Delrin or monoball might be horrible on the street. There's a lot of install videos. I like this one! I'd like to hear some real driving experience, thanks
