It’s so amazing how we have this knowledge from the original men who had the privilege to learn from the actual apostles ! People who saw Christ and ate with him. It’s mind blowing . Especially since modern people treat it as if we have no way of knowing the real scriptures or if these people even existed.

Dude is an underrated Saint. Everyone could learn from this man, he imitated Christ for long as he was here with us. Even in disagreement with his brothers, he still found a way to settle disagreements. Faced with heretical people, he didn’t flinch. Faced with death? He didn’t flinch. Polycarp, the connection between Jesus Christ's Apostles and the authority of the Catholic Church?? NO! He may have been a bishop, but he never has Apostolic Authority to pass on to anyone!!
@JuanGonzalez-kb3gm5 ай бұрын
I guess you didn’t see he whole video. It said he was appointed by John the apostle, Polycarp appointed Irenaus IRENAEUS “It is possible, then, for everyone in every church, who may wish to know the truth, to contemplate the tradition of the apostles which has been made known to us throughout the whole world. And we are in a position to enumerate those who were instituted bishops by the apostles and their successors down to our own times, men who neither knew nor taught anything like what these heretics rave about” (Against Heresies 3:3:1 [A.D. 189]). “But since it would be too long to enumerate in such a volume as this the successions of all the churches, we shall confound all those who, in whatever manner, whether through self-satisfaction or vainglory, or through blindness and wicked opinion, assemble other than where it is proper, by pointing out here the successions of the bishops of the greatest and most ancient church known to all, founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles, Peter and Paul-that church which has the tradition and the faith with which comes down to us after having been announced to men by the apostles. For with this Church, because of its superior origin, all churches must agree, that is, all the faithful in the whole world. And it is in her that the faithful everywhere have maintained the apostolic tradition” (ibid., 3:3:2). “Polycarp also was not only instructed by apostles, and conversed with many who had seen Christ, but was also, by apostles in Asia, appointed bishop of the church in Smyrna, whom I also saw in my early youth, for he tarried [on earth] a very long time, and, when a very old man, gloriously and most nobly suffering martyrdom, departed this life, having always taught the things which he had learned from the apostles, and which the Church has handed down, and which alone are true. To these things all the Asiatic churches testify, as do also those men who have succeeded Polycarp down to the present time” (ibid., 3:3:4). “Since therefore we have such proofs, it is not necessary to seek the truth among others which it is easy to obtain from the Church; since the apostles, like a rich man [depositing his money] in a bank, lodged in her hands most copiously all things pertaining to the truth, so that every man, whosoever will, can draw from her the water of life. . . . For how stands the case? Suppose there arise a dispute relative to some important question among us, should we not have recourse to the most ancient churches with which the apostles held constant conversation, and learn from them what is certain and clear in regard to the present question?” (ibid., 3:4:1). “[I]t is incumbent to obey the presbyters who are in the Church-those who, as I have shown, possess the succession from the apostles; those who, together with the succession of the episcopate, have received the infallible charism of truth, according to the good pleasure of the Father. But [it is also incumbent] to hold in suspicion others who depart from the primitive succession, and assemble themselves together in any place whatsoever, either as heretics of perverse minds, or as schismatics puffed up and self-pleasing, or again as hypocrites, acting thus for the sake of lucre and vainglory. For all these have fallen from the truth” (ibid., 4:26:2). “The true knowledge is the doctrine of the apostles, and the ancient organization of the Church throughout the whole world, and the manifestation of the body of Christ according to the succession of bishops, by which succession the bishops have handed down the Church which is found everywhere” (ibid., 4:33:8 But I guess that’s not evidence

My friend, thank you for this upload but you left out the most important parts of the story. How Polycarp served dinner to those that came to arrest him, how he prayed over them and forgave them before being taken away in chains. How after being thrown out of the chariot on the way to his execution at the stadium...a voice was heard coming from heaven like the Archangel, "Play the Man Polycarp!" Or in modern parlance Stand Strong Like a Man Polycarp! Straight from the Throne of God, Which Everyone Heard and was recorded in Roman history! The fire being set around Polycarp ballooned like a room large and wide around Polycarp and did not consume his flesh but he seemed to transform within the flames while in prayer to God, and a sweet scent of Cinnamon and Jasmine seemed to permeate the air. Finally, the judge ordered the executioner to thrust a spear into the side of Polycarp which he did as the flames were not killing the old, spirit filled Bishop of Smyrna as the crazed mob wished, so they plunged the spear into Polycarp killing him lest the mob begin to believe in the Power of the Living God. God was truly with Polycarp His beloved servant.

With all the deception during this little season Rev 20:3, one is called to question all things. When a narrative names a group of men earthly fathers, it should raise flags, as to who is the source of the information being provided. Matthew 23:9 KJV “And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.” Are we to ignore Christ and trust a narrative and time line provided by man? Matthew 16:6 KJV “Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.” While it may seem to be a small thing, it goes directly against the command of our Master, The Christ. John 14:15 KJV “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” Granted we are called to seek, however believe a great deal of discernment must be used in these matters.

For those who are wondering the word "bishop" means overseer. It came from the biblical Greek word for overseer "episkopos", this later transliterated to become the Latin word "episcopi", then Old English "biscop" and finally bishop. Protestant churches do not use the word Bishop because of the association with the Catholic church but the role of overseer was a biblical role. Polycarp and Irenaeus are generally held as Church fathers by all Christians and were overseers "episkopos".

They are Catholic. They even use the word Catholic in their writings.
@dexterplameras32496 ай бұрын
@@FranzBazar As someone who reads Greek, the word Catholic, came from the Greek word καθόλου ("katholikos"), which obviously became the word Catholic. The Greek word means entirely, completely or universally. The early church christians did not use the word Catholic to describe themselves, they called themselves Christians (same sounding Greek word), μαθητής ("mathētḗs" or "disciple").If you thinking that Catholics have a lineage back to the Apostle Peter, heritage counts for nothing with God and Jesus, just look at the Pharisees who claimed linage to Moses. Jesus rejected them because their deeds were evil and they rejected Jesus. They also refused to repent. Its the same for anyone.
@unc15896 ай бұрын
“If Abraham were your father you would believe Me because he testified of Me!” So right! Lineage means nothing. From the beginning, the devil hijacks words! In the garden with Eve. In the wilderness with Jesus. The Catholics hijacked the word “Christian”. And misrepresented it across the world. European Jews call themselves “semites”. Without a drop of Semitic blood. Then there’s “white evangelicals.” What is that exactly? They say Peter was the first Pope. How? Popes started 350 years after the resurrection. So did Roman Catholicism. They killed biblical Christians and called them heretics. The Fourth of July firework named “Roman candle” is a term taken from Christian martyrs burned by the Romans. They laughingly called them that. In all this, Christ gets the last laugh. And martyrs like Polycarp have been in the Presence of The Lord ever since.

The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. Or where he says "“Take ye heed, then, to have but one Eucharist. For there is one flesh of our Lord Jesus Christ, and one cup to [show forth] the unity of His blood; one altar; as there is one bishop, along with the presbytery and deacons”. If I may correct you, it was "catholic church" a small "c" as it was talking about a universal church and it was used as an adjective as the "Catholic church had not yet been started which would have been used as a noun and speak of a different church other than Christ's church. What I find interesting is when they translate that statement why do they use English for all the words except for "catholic" instead of using the translation which would be "universal."

@@sammygomes7381 Your post shows you have no idea about Church history in the first few centuries and no understanding of Catholic beliefs or many of the things that the NT and OT teach about the Church as it was organized by Christ and the Apostles. The followers of Christ under the leadership of the Apostles were first called Christians in Antioch. That is specifically stated in the NT. That same Church started to call itself the Catholic Church at the turn of the century. Many of the Bishops of the Catholic Church were actually taught the faith by the Apostles and chosen to lead the Church by the Apostles. Not everything Christ and the Apostles taught was written according to scripture. Yet scripture also says that everything they taught had to be followed whether it was written or not. Bishop Lightfoot of England translated one or more of these true believers from the 2nd century and added phrases such as (so and so) "practiced righteousness", or something similar. But the bible never says a just person " practices" anything. Only unjust men practice. @vanfja12 күн бұрын
Um, not blind obedience to the Law. The apostles sorted this out much earlier. The problem with the Judaizers wanting all Christians to get circumcised was repealed. When the Apostles gathered, Paul’s stance was what the Apostles eventually all adopted. Jesus came to fulfill the Law. Some of the law was specific for the Old Testament jews specifically ti keep them alive and in the the true faith of God and not fall into idolatry, such as circumcision, not eating certain meats, not making images. But the Apostles explain all this and how The gentiles and Christians do not need to follow parts of the law which were meant only for the Jews up to the point when the messiah came and fulfilled the law.
@johnnyd132712 күн бұрын
@@vanfja I suggest you do some research into the original Greek scriptures, especially concerning Paul. Paul in Galatians was speaking of his former ways of Judaism, as he was formerly part of the circumcision party, where they taught that circumcision was salvational, the first step of a proselyte. Paul spends the entire book trying to explain to these new converts that circumcision is the final step, uses examples of Abraham, as it’s the FINAL step, an outward sign of being in covenant because once circumcised you were obliged to keep the entire Torah (law) that concerns you. This took the Hebrews years to learn from the age of 3 to adulthood to understand Torah, how could a Greek convert learn the Torah in even a few years? The loosely translated word “tradition” into English is the Greek word “paradosis” which means the oral Torah. The oral Torah is what Pharisees claim, that Moses was given 2 Torahs on mount sinai, a written and and oral Torah, the oral Torah is what the Pharisees taught and still teach today, it’s called the takanot. This is why the Pharisees claimed that Jesus broke the Torah, yet he ONLY broke the oral Torah and NEVER the written Torah. This is why Jesus said to observe ALL what the Pharisees spoke whilst on the seat of Moses (because they read from the Torah whilst on the seat) and not to do as they do, because they taught their oral Torah which nullified the written Torah. This is the MAIN reason why the Pharisees sought to kill Jesus, because he taught them that ONLY the written Torah was to be kept and this threatened the power of the Pharisees over the people. If you learn the front of your bible then you will understand the new testament especially when it comes to Paul as he was a professor in the both types of Torah and you need to understand the differences between the two of them so that you are NOT led into lawlessness as Peter tries to warn people in 2Peter 3, about unlearned people twisting the words of Paul
@johnnyd132712 күн бұрын
@@vanfja also the word “fulfilled” in the Greek is pleroo which means to fully preach, expound and walk out, which Jesus did, he explained where sin originated, in the heart. Paul expounds on this in Corinthians, showing the ONLY difference between the two covenants is where they are written, it’s the exact same Torah, but instead of being on tablets of stone, it’s now written on your heart and the Holy Spirit is given to help believers keep the Torah as prophesied by Jeremiah 31::33-34 and Ezekiel 11:19-20 and 36:26-27

@ no where in scripture does it mention anything that you claim. Christ did not fulfill ALL the law, that is impossible because some of the law is for priests, some for farmers, some for women. NEVER did Christ or the apostle make all food clean and circumcision in NOT idolatry, it’s a commandment of God. The apostle didn’t adopt Paul’s teachings, Paul had to continue to come before the apostles to get their guidance on matters. Paul taught the importance of the law and its relevance, it’s people who don’t understand the law that twist Paul’s words as they don’t understand the meanings behind the words. Your comment shows the lack of your knowledge of scripture. Stop listening to FALSE teachers and start reading the bible

God knows, better than all of us, what is best for us. This life will go by so fast compared to eternity. Stay humble, and strong in the faith, and trust God's Sovereignty.

Your deafness may seem as a punishment, but only God knows why you have this affliction. God says His ways are not our ways. Count the ways you are rich...you can walk and talk? You can take care of yourself? Serve God the way you are and perhaps you will learn how rich you are.

It’s your blindness that should concern you.

The church of Smyrna was not directly addressed by John in chapters 2 and 3 of Revelation. The letter to Smyrna is clearly marked as “from Jesus Christ”, so the address to the church was actually from Jesus Christ. John was just the scribe, as it reads.

This image of Polycarp has 5 fingers and a thumb - what is that abut?

Perhaps God is showing how foolish it is to draw pictures of what cannot be depicted by art and man's device, as it says in Acts 17:29.

Thus was a good, but short, too short, topic about Polycarp, there was much more to him. When Polycarp went to Rome you said Bishop of Rome, but in the picture you gave the title of the Pope of Rome, which is untrue. There was no “Pope” of Rome in Polycarps time.
