It's funny for me how he put together Polish and Chinese. When I was learning Chinese myself, one of the native speakers working for the university was speaking fluent Polish. As in - if you wouldn't see a tiny Chinese lady in front of you, you wouldn't even know she's obviously a foreigner. I've seen different levels of proficiency when it comes to Polish, but she is like the unreachable golden standard. I only ever met a single other non-Pole speaking Polish that well, and she was Slovak, having obviously MUCH easier time - but in that case I've learned she isn't Polish after over two years. When asked, Mrs. Wang gave probably the most contradictory advice on how she mastered Polish. She memorised it. At first, she tried the standard "learn all the grammar rules and then apply them in conversation", but that was too slow, taxing and ultimately her pronunciation was constantly "off", something that always exposes a non-native trying to speak Polish. So she switched to how average Poles do it - by simply knowing all the words needed, in the forms that are needed, rather than thinking about grammar. End result: you wouldn't know she's Chinese if she talked to you via phone or, how I first met her, when she was standing behind a bookshelf and simply talking with me. You can probably imagine my face when she eventually came from behind it and sit behind her desk.

From what I've heard: English: his accent is a mix of Italian and American accent so he could easily be identified as a New Yorker from Italian roots. Italian: nothing to say, quite standard northern Italian accent. French: also quite standard northern accent, there are only a few little details that can be noticed but only by native French speakers (like the way he pronounced "poteau"). However there were some mistakes in the subtitles. For example he should have written "Il n'a pas couru (takes one "r", current mistake by Italian speakers, and quite difficult to prevent since there are some times were "courir" takes 2 "r" like future - je courrai), il ne s'est pas enfui ("t" is for present)", there are "^" on "chaîne", "déchaîné". Another mistake is also quite hard for foreigners: he should have written "un étudiant de langues" and not "un étudiant des langues" (the first expression would be translated as "a language(s) student" and the second one as "a student of the languages" - and this second one looks as natural in English as in French). German: his accent doesn't sound standard but his pronunciation is very good. You can easily notice most of non native German speakers when they fail to pronounce some words like "nur" (you must pronounce it a bit like "nuwe") but he passed the test. Spanish: he could have tricked me if he had pretended to be a native Spanish speaker. HIs accent seemed very natural, especially the "s", a consonant that is quite peculiar in Spanish compared to other languages.

I can confirm that his German is seriously impressive. One small mistake I noticed is using "auswenden" (which isn't a word) instead of "anwenden". As for languages I speak, but not natively, his English, Spanish and Portuguese all sound flawless to me as well. Take that with a grain of salt, since English is the only one of those for which I would claim a high level of fluency. I think there are many "polyglots" out there who go for quantity over quality and struggle to hold more than a basic conversation in 80%+ of their languages. Don't get me wrong, it's still an insane accomplishment to speak 20+ languages even on a basic level. But I'm much more impressed with people like Luca here who also take the time to perfect the languages and not call it quits after being barely conversational.

@Nicamon3 жыл бұрын
@@flannel_punk Maybe...but I'm not totally sure because there are some spanish words that _exist_ in the"italian version"but we don't really _use_ them,so some times when WE hear a spanish sentence we're able to understand it,but it's not granted that it's gonna work the other way around.For example...this is a line from an actual movie,"Spanglish". *Spanish line:* "Cincuenta dolares es mucho dinero." *Line with Italian words that sound like the spanish ones:* "Cinquanta dollari è molto denaro." *Actual Italian line:* "Ma cinquanta dollari sono un sacco di soldi!" *English line:* "Fifty dollars are a lot of money!" As you can see...cincuenta/cinquanta and dolares/dollari are very similar words,but then you have "mucho"that we Italians *know* translates in"molto"(=a lot),but in the _actual_ line we hear the word"sacco" which sounds differently and the same goes for"dinero"that sounds like"denaro"so WE understand it,but the problem is that in Italian we _rarely_ use the word"denaro"in a colloquial situation...we usually say "soldi"which is a word that means exactly the same thing(=money)but sounds very differently. But,yeah,in a lot of other cases I'm pretty sure you would be able to understand Italian if you knew Spanish well enough...just be careful with false friends,like"imbarazzata"that in Italian is the feminine for"embarassed"while in Spanish"embarazada"means"pregnant"!😅

1. Find an interesting resource you want to use for the first 3 months of learning before continuing with others. 2. Learn every day. Even if it's just for 5 minutes. Better something than nothing. 3. Use every Sunday to plan how, when and for how long you will learn every day in the following week. Try to stick to the plan as closely as possible. 4. Use pencil and paper to take notes about the aspects of your target language you want to remember in the long-term. 5. Remove everything that may distract you (especially your mobile phone). 6. Write about your progress daily.
