Great video. I’m 55 and recently bought the same bike here in Australia. Arrived on time despite Covid. I noticed my rear shock was different to the x-fusion that was spec - it came with rockshox deluxe. After dialling in the suspension I did a few runs on the local DH track I found the handlebars way too wide for me so I swapped them out with a shorter bar with a bit more rise and sweep. The difference to the handling was HUGE! Instant confidence. My 16 year old son has given it the big thumbs up and has been getting solid air time on it.

That is awesome to hear Peter! I do notice the handle bars are quite wide, but I have got used to them very quick. Odd yours came with a different shock? All the best on the trails and stay safe out there ;)

Gave up real mountain biking 20 years ago in my early 50's. Now, it's strictly gravel & road riding. Bike shops can add a lot of value if people don't know how to wrench or are uncomfortable buying expensive toys online but for you & I, online is a good alternative. Your video gives me some good ideas on creating a gravel ride video. Thanks and keep the rubber side down.
@Jason_Hermann4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments Cuse and yes I totally agree. However as you were saying these days and depending on you knowledge base/ skill level you do not need to go to the bike shops as much. There is so much knowledge on the web now it's amazing! I totally agree about supporting local bike shops, but in this case I could not get anywhere near as good of a bike for the money at my two local shops unfortunately. I honestly do feel a little bummed about that, but I still opted to go for the far better deal.... All the best ;)

Right-on and I'm definitely planing on doing a fallow up review for the D6. I am very impressed with it all around. However, I just preordered the T8 :) I already have the D6 sold to a friend of mine at work when the new bike arrives.. Looks like mid June time frame, so I have plenty of time to get some killer footage for the D6 fallow-up review, and get in better shape for the new beast. I also need to get my skills back and learn to ride the D6 better. It's a lot getting used to the full suspension when under high load situations over bumps and stuff. It's taking some getting used to. Also the 29er wheels are so big and the angle of the front fork pushes the front wheel out, so it turns a bit slower than my much older GT I used to have. With that being said, I am getting used to going fast and it's really unbelievable what you can do! Bunny hoping over opticals for example is ridicules!! You just squat the suspension and literally jump over stuff which is a game changer coming from an old shitty hard tail. Also the dropper post is another game changer! It puts the seat completely out off the way so you can ride really low and use your legs for suspension way easier than when the seat stays up all the time. I totally under estimated the value in that tool util hitting it hard recently. I go to this place in NY called Stewart and it's unbelievable terrain diversity which is exactly what I want. All the best and stay tuned for the fallow-up review! Jay

Wow, you are amazing, you will soon outgrow that bike, I think T series would have fit you better. D series is cross country and I don't think full suspension makes a lot sense there, I prefer hardtail in that category. Hats off to your research, I used to think I overdo it but I wasn't even close to how much you researched till I was on my 4th mountain bike.
@Jason_Hermann4 жыл бұрын
Wow, thanks :) The T series is clearly a better option with more travel, but I had a limited budget and the D6 was a huge upgrade from what I had. So, I figured start with the D6 and if I upgrade from there in the future I would be able to appreciate the better suspension with more travel. I definitely did not want a hard tail, because I'm getting old and honestly wanted a smoother ride even when just cruising with the kids and stuff. I absolutely love the dual suspension and I can still totally see the advantage the hard tail has in a lot of areas, but I still prefer the softer ride these days...
@ruturaj474 жыл бұрын
@@Jason_Hermann sure, it comes down to personal choice for sure. Bikes are super expensive when they shouldn't be, I am riding a hardtail and planning to upgrade soon. You look pretty comfortable on the bike and I think you will grown in and out of it super fast. Enjoy the bike.

Thanks again, and what do you mean by grow in and out of it? I'm assuming you mean I will want want something better soon? That is possible, but I'm getting old and my risk taking has gone way down the past few years, because getting hurt is so easy and it really sucks... Of course I would love a better suspension with more travel, but I really don't think I need it considering I don't plan on jumping anything big ever... Thanks again, Jay

With those pedals and shoes, how do you "pull". Is it push only? Was that an Allen car/bike rack. Beautiful bike..enjoy.
@Jason_Hermann4 жыл бұрын
Hey Harvey ;) You don't really pull that much with these types of pedals. You can angle your toes down and get a little pull on the up stroke, but overall no pull. I was also perplexed by this, because of the so called huge advantage of being able to pull up with the clip in style pedals and shoes for example. However, several prio riders are using these types of pedals and winning competitions, so I guess the advantages of being able to easily take your feet off to avoid a fall or whatever, and then get right back on to full power makes up for it. I know with my clip style pedals it always took a bit to get back in the pedals, and that costs valuable seconds in time. WHen it comes to road bikes, that is not really an issue because you never really need to unclip unless you are stopping. When mountain biking the feet constantly come off whether it be a sharp turn or a rolling rock etc... Honestly I find them far superior overall so far, especially with those shoes. I feel glued to the pedals and have yet to "slip" off the pedals for example. Great question and thanks for best wishes :)

@optikalillusion7774 жыл бұрын
@@Jason_Hermann I appreciate it. I agree with you it should be at least quite higher than 250lbs to be an effective full suspension bike. I'm 6ft and I weigh less than you do so that's good enough for me. You looked comfortable bouncing on that bike. I'm just going to pull the trigger and get it. Thanks I'm new to MTB world, i feel like tuning the shocks is going to be a tough one for me. I don't want to the bike shops for this, i want to learn the parts of these bikes and get comfortable working with them.
@Jason_Hermann4 жыл бұрын
@@optikalillusion777 No problem, and tuning the shocks is not very hard honestly. You will need one of those shock pumps. As far as the rebound and dampening, you just turn the knobs on the shocks till they feel good. Basically you don't want the shocks to feel like springs. You want the dampening turned on enough so the shock comes back as fast as possible to full travel without it causing the bike to bounce up like a spring. The dampening slows the rebound down. The air pressure in the shock is what sets the "sag" for your given weight. You want the bike to settle a bit when you sit on it so you are in the range of the suspension. You also do not want the shocks to bottom out very often which is what you saw in my video pretty much. I have since dialed everything in which took several rides and adjustments. However, there are not many adjustments to change, so it's honestly not that hard in my opinion.

It says pending for me. And I'm tired of waiting

Yeah, some of the bikes sell out quick, which is actually the reason I got this one. I was originally looking at the D5 ;) You can try reaching out to them to get an idea when they will be back in stock.

@@Jason_Hermann Sorry I meant as in I already ordered my bike. It was supposed to arrive two days ago according to Fed ex and all of a sudden it went from saying it should arrive at the end of the day to pending on their website. And hasn't changed since.
@Jason_Hermann3 жыл бұрын
Oh, well in that case call Fed-Ex ASAP. 1-800-GOFEDEX ;)

I love it and I got the Large size, because I am 6' 1" tall. Those 29" wheels are huge for sure though!

For the money the D7 is a way better bike.
@Jason_Hermann3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's got some better components for sure and costs a bit more also. Certainly a great option for the money!
