Doug Williams is a former Oklahoma City detective sergeant. As an officer in the department's internal affairs and polygraph unit, he conducted thousands of polygraph tests. In the late 1970s, however, Williams began to doubt that the so-called lie detector actually is such a thing, and within a decade he had evolved into one of the most vocal, visible, and theatrical critics of the polygraph. O course it works.. I bought a polygraph off eBay for like 250$ and yes its the same model the police use, I was able to learn over night how to pass it ever time...its real simple, at first my score was high deception, I was able to minimize that score further and further down until I passed with flying colors...."and know I didn't just focus on the same question over and over"... once learned I was asked a brand new set of question which I could pass every time.

If that's your baseline anxiety level, the detector will compare your baseline anxiety to your anxiety to answering questions. So you'll probably be better off since your baseline level is already high.

I am currently on federal probation and I am required to take polygraph tests. I have severe anxiety and I over-analyze questions all the time. I have failed many polygraph tests in which I have told the truth, generating false positives. Once I was asked if I had ever possessed a weapon, and I began to wonder how to define a weapon. I thought to myself I had used a kitchen knife, which could be used as a weapon. I answered no and the polygrapher told me I was lying. Many convicts on probation go to jail simply for failing polygraph tests. What's worse is that probation officers trust the polygraph tests as if their accuracy rate is 100%.

Shoeboxing decks together is an adaptation that has come about as a result of the meta-game. My point was that at no point in the design of Poker or Blackjack did the primitive designers account for people calculating the odds of which cards may appear based on what has already appeared.

I would agree with you. The thought of being polygraphed would instill fear into almost anyone. I've taken nine polygraph examinations because of the security clearance i had with a certain agency. I was very nervous and stressful during my pre-employment polygraph. The exam lasted for almost an hour because its paused to deflate the blood pressure cuff. It can become uncomfortable. When its pumped up again, the questioning continues. I answered truthfully on all the questions and passed. The examination requires that you keep your feet flat on this pad. Because of this I was asked to remove my high heels. Six weeks later I was subjected to another polygraph but this one was shorter in duration. The questions were the same, but the message was clear: don't do anything wrong(I had to remove my shoes again because I didn't know I was going to be examined. From then on I kept a pair of flats in my desk drawer). These polygraph examinations were given because they didn't trust you. One technique was asking four or five relevant questions in a row. Its purpose was to increase the pressure on you and possibly reveal some deception. Keep in mind that you must remain perfectly still during the questioning(that was madding). My examiner was a woman who was pleasant but businesslike. She never commented on the results of the exam. I signed and dated the chart and left. I didn't know when I would see her again but I knew I would. When I reflect back on those exams, I shudder to think how much control she had over me. Some wavey lines on a piece of paper that could easily change your life. I was really at her mercy.

This guy is spot on. The people who fail are not lairs (any more than anyone else), but those who naturally just feel sympathetic guilt - who also are usually the most honest. It's just a torture device used by agencies that engage in pseudoscience. Someone who actually has malintent, will train to pass this, or will just not bother with it. So it really only catches people who are honest and think they will pass because they are honest, but who have active imaginations or have a guilt complex (like all Catholics).

It's true... I applied to be a police officer in 2003 when I got out of the military. I have anxiety, but I manage it without medication. However in situations like an interrogation, I get extremely anxious immediately. Just then thought that I might sound like a liar, when I'm being truthful, makes me sound like liar. "Over thinking it" I ALWAYS came up as deceptive. I tried to 3 times with different agencies and always got screwed... So I gave up. It's not for me. You can use pretty common pharmaceuticals to pass them no issue.. They're used as a heart medication, but it functions to block adrenaline receptors systemically. This works.. 100% of the time since all the polygraph is testing for is spikes in heartrate and sweat perspirations, all signs of adrenaline release.

In order to improve network or computer security, we have to teach how to break in first. This is why as an IT major, I am taught how to use offensive software, how to break into networks, how to use social engineering to get sensitive information. This is extremely important for me to understand how I can make a safe network for a corporation. I literally completed labs last semester where I had to create my own VPN, or use password repositories to break into accounts in seconds. SQL injection, XSS, the list goes *wayyyyyyyyyyyy* on. If I find a vulnerability in WPA2-PSK, I abso-fucking-lutely should show everybody asap. An insane amount of sensitive data is relying on this protocol. Your sensitive data.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in charging him with witness tampering, aren't they admitting that the device is flawed? If the polygraph isn't flawed, then he couldn't teach people to beat it, which means he couldn't have committed the crime he is accused of. Since they did charge him with witness tampering, they admit that he was able to teach people to beat the device. Seems like pretty damning evidence that they know it is flawed. If the machine can give a false negative, then it certainly can give a false positive.

This is extremely unreliable IMHO. Some people get stressed out when their not lying for example: If I was hooked up to the machine and sombody asked me if I'd killed the man who was murdered next door I'd mentally freak out and be like: why are they asking me this? do they have any circumstancial evidence? Why am I under suspicion? Will I mistakenly get prison time?! Am I going to have to pay thousands for lawyers? Is my life over? ect I'd be quite stressed even though I didn't do it. Everyone feels anxiety and stress when put on the polygraph. That is allowed for. I have had quite a few polygraphs and had spikes in blood pressure on control questions. Those are questions that you would have no need to lie on. For example, "what is your first name." So stay a calm as possible and answer all questions truthfully.

I've taken a couple of polygraph tests. I found the whole process interesting. The first 2 parts of a polygraph test are just there to convince you that the test works. It starts with the examiner giving you their resume' statement about how they are qualified and experts on the subject. Then they explain how the test works and what it measures and how your body reacts to lying. This is all done to ramp up the stress and convince you of the validity of the test thereby making it more effective. Most of the whole process is just for show and it relies a lot on your belief in the process. Another large portion of the test is the examiner studying your responses and body language during the process and the results. I believe the actual readings are a small portion of the overall process. It's still pretty interesting overall.

I was accused of lying on a poly when the question was "have you ever stolen from an employer?" because while teaching guitar at a music store, I had several students start coming to my house. And it wasn't so I wouldn't have to split the lesson costs with the store, it was always a question of scheduling; the student or his/her parents didn't want to commit to the same day and time-of-day for each week's lesson due to work or school priorities.

It works.. takes practice but it works 100percent .. I also would like to add my two cents if you have The opportunity to know where you’re going to take the test ahead of time if you never been in that area or seen the building or what not I would suggest go there a couple days before you have to go so you’re not going somewhere unfamiliar and just adds more to your nerves

Tell me how to pass! I’m applying to be a dispatcher for 911 and they require it. I am a highly anxious person. I got a pulse oximeter to practice my lies the relaxing beach deal relaxes me brings down heart rate. Not sure how to get my heart rate to spike as everything i think about seems to “relax” me abd slow down the heart

thanks to mister williams. i attempted to research this several yrs ago, but the expert claimed that the examiner would see through, and not to use any techniques. i paid dearly for the misinfo. bless you for your stand.

I bought his tutorial when I applied for a police agency. I had already passed 2 exams as a Sheriff's employee, then failed 2 identical polygraph exams when I applied for a city police position. THE EXAMS HAD THE SAME IDENTICAL QUESTIONS. That's when I researched it and passed 2 other exams with other agencies without any problems. This time, I even lied on a few questions regarding things I did as a teen that no one knew about. I ended up not accepting the police academy invitation in favor of a satellite installation job that paid twice what a cop made. In either case, the polygraph is just as criminal as those it attempts to incriminate.

I was given a lie detector test. They told me the only question I didn't show deception on was my name. Even though they ask me questions that word directly contradictory there's no way I could fail both questions but I still did fell both questions. They never called me back to do it again because I found out it's ineffective against certain people it turns out I'm the opposite of a narcissister or whatever that passes a lie detector test even though he's lying. I get so nervous that everything looks like a lie. Which left me untestable

....I read comments on some polygraph test video here on KZbin, one commenter said he took one, he stated that one of the questions was, “ Is it sunny outside?“ He said, “Yes it is.“ It was truly too. The polygraph machine said he lied.

There has been some peer-reviewed research recently in the UK regarding Lie Detectors and their accuracy/efficacy, conducted by Psychology Professor Ray Bull (Derby University). The conclusion of his research is this: Even with the most experienced lie detector examiners conducting tests in Perfect conditions, the Lie Detector is at best between 66-70% accurate.

As long as you got one hell of a good memory, because when you lie to cover up a lie that covers up another lie and they go back and ask you the same questions in a different order you better have the same answer, but you're right about Xanax. Xanax will keep you cool, calm and will cause you to not perspire and will keep your muscles from twitching involuntarily because of how Xanax affects the brains electrical signals through involuntary muscle movements, which is exactly how polygraphs work in the first place. But like I said, you better have one hell of a good memory though
